WG: Throne / Sovereign Seat¶
Overview¶
The NT throne concept clusters around five Greek words: the seat itself (thrónos), its occupant (basileús), the domain of rule (basileía), the act of sitting enthroned (káthēmai), and the physical bench/chair (kathédra) that is easily confused with it. The Lamb (arníon) joins the group as the unexpected co-occupant of the divine throne in Revelation.

Roles in the Concept¶
- The Seat: thrónos (G2362) — the physical and symbolic throne; carries the authority
- The Act: káthēmai (G2521) — sitting enthroned; the posture of ruling
- The Domain: basileía (G932) — the kingdom over which the throne exercises authority
- The Ruler: basileús (G935) — the king who sits on the throne
- The Confusion: kathédra (G2515) — any seat or bench; lacks the authority dimension
- The Surprise: arníon (G721) — the Lamb shares God's throne (Rev 22:3) — theologically unexpected occupant
