Leviticus 16:1-34 (The Day of Atonement)

v.1 And the LORD spake unto Moses after the death of the two sons of Aaron, when they offered before the LORD, and died; v.2 And the LORD said unto Moses, Speak unto Aaron thy brother, that he come not at all times into the holy place within the vail before the mercy seat, which is upon the ark; that he die not: for I will appear in the cloud upon the mercy seat. v.3 Thus shall Aaron come into the holy place: with a young bullock for a sin offering, and a ram for a burnt offering. v.4 He shall put on the holy linen coat, and he shall have the linen breeches upon his flesh, and shall be girded with a linen girdle, and with the linen mitre shall he be attired: these are holy garments; therefore shall he wash his flesh in water, and so put them on. v.5 And he shall take of the congregation of the children of Israel two kids of the goats for a sin offering, and one ram for a burnt offering. v.6 And Aaron shall offer his bullock of the sin offering, which is for himself, and make an atonement for himself, and for his house. v.7 And he shall take the two goats, and present them before the LORD at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation. v.8 And Aaron shall cast lots upon the two goats; one lot for the LORD, and the other lot for the scapegoat. v.9 And Aaron shall bring the goat upon which the LORD'S lot fell, and offer him for a sin offering. v.10 But the goat, on which the lot fell to be the scapegoat, shall be presented alive before the LORD, to make an atonement with him, and to let him go for a scapegoat into the wilderness. v.11 And Aaron shall bring the bullock of the sin offering, which is for himself, and shall make an atonement for himself, and for his house, and shall kill the bullock of the sin offering which is for himself: v.12 And he shall take a censer full of burning coals of fire from off the altar before the LORD, and his hands full of sweet incense beaten small, and bring it within the vail: v.13 And he shall put the incense upon the fire before the LORD, that the cloud of the incense may cover the mercy seat that is upon the testimony, that he die not: v.14 And he shall take of the blood of the bullock, and sprinkle it with his finger upon the mercy seat eastward; and before the mercy seat shall he sprinkle of the blood with his finger seven times. v.15 Then shall he kill the goat of the sin offering, that is for the people, and bring his blood within the vail, and do with that blood as he did with the blood of the bullock, and sprinkle it upon the mercy seat, and before the mercy seat: v.16 And he shall make an atonement for the holy place, because of the uncleanness of the children of Israel, and because of their transgressions in all their sins: and so shall he do for the tabernacle of the congregation, that remaineth among them in the midst of their uncleanness. v.17 And there shall be no man in the tabernacle of the congregation when he goeth in to make an atonement in the holy place, until he come out, and have made an atonement for himself, and for his household, and for all the congregation of Israel. v.18 And he shall go out unto the altar that is before the LORD, and make an atonement for it; and shall take of the blood of the bullock, and of the blood of the goat, and put it upon the horns of the altar round about. v.19 And he shall sprinkle of the blood upon it with his finger seven times, and cleanse it, and hallow it from the uncleanness of the children of Israel. v.20 And when he hath made an end of reconciling the holy place, and the tabernacle of the congregation, and the altar, he shall bring the live goat: v.21 And Aaron shall lay both his hands upon the head of the live goat, and confess over him all the iniquities of the children of Israel, and all their transgressions in all their sins, putting them upon the head of the goat, and shall send him away by the hand of a fit man into the wilderness: v.22 And the goat shall bear upon him all their iniquities unto a land not inhabited: and he shall let go the goat in the wilderness. v.23-28 [garment change, washings, disposal of carcasses] v.29 And this shall be a statute for ever unto you: that in the seventh month, on the tenth day of the month, ye shall afflict your souls, and do no work at all... v.30 For on that day shall the priest make an atonement for you, to cleanse you, that ye may be clean from all your sins before the LORD. v.31 It shall be a sabbath of rest unto you, and ye shall afflict your souls, by a statute for ever. v.32-33 And the priest, whom he shall anoint... shall make the atonement... for the holy sanctuary, and for the tabernacle of the congregation, and for the altar, and for the priests, and for all the people of the congregation. v.34 And this shall be an everlasting statute unto you, to make an atonement for the children of Israel for all their sins once a year. And he did as the LORD commanded Moses.

Key structural notes: - v.15: goat killed (שׁחט, Qal perf 3ms) in courtyard — KILLING phase - v.15b: blood brought within the veil (הֵבִיא, Hiphil perf 3ms of בוא) — APPLICATION phase begins - v.20: kalah (כִלָּה, Piel perf 3ms of כלה) marks completion boundary — blood atonement DONE - v.21-22: scapegoat ceremony follows — sins removed from camp - v.30: kaphar→taher→titharu three-verb formula (unique to this verse)

Leviticus 4:5-7 (Daily Service Blood Path)

v.5 And the priest that is anointed shall take of the bullock's blood, and bring it to the tabernacle of the congregation: v.6 And the priest shall dip his finger in the blood, and sprinkle of the blood seven times before the LORD, before the vail of the sanctuary. v.7 And the priest shall put some of the blood upon the horns of the altar of sweet incense before the LORD, which is in the tabernacle of the congregation; and shall pour all the blood of the bullock at the bottom of the altar of the burnt offering, which is at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.

Grammar reference: D:/bible/bible-studies/grammar-reference/passages/lev-4-5-7.md Key contrast with Lev 16: Daily blood application = first compartment (before the veil). DOA blood application = second compartment (past the veil, onto the kapporeth). Same verb (הִזָּה), same gesture (finger, seven times), different spatial depth.

Leviticus 10:16-20 (nasa+kaphar Dual Purpose)

v.17 Wherefore have ye not eaten the sin offering in the holy place, seeing it is most holy, and God hath given it you to bear (לָשֵׂאת, nasa) the iniquity of the congregation, to make atonement (לְכַפֵּר, kaphar) for them before the LORD? v.18 Behold, the blood of it was not brought in within the holy place: ye should indeed have eaten it in the holy place, as I commanded.

Grammar reference: D:/bible/bible-studies/grammar-reference/passages/lev-10-16-20.md Key finding: Two-path sin-offering system. If blood goes INSIDE the sanctuary → carcass burned outside. If blood stays OUTSIDE → priests eat the flesh (bearing/nasa the sin). Moses' anger shows these paths are not interchangeable.

Phase 1 — Ground / Cross Passages (Full Chapter Context)

John 19:28-30 (tetelestai)

v.28 After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished (τετέλεσται from τελέω G5055), that the scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst. v.29 Now there was set a vessel full of vinegar: and they filled a spunge with vinegar, and put it upon hyssop, and put it to his mouth. v.30 When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished (Τετέλεσται — Perfect Passive Indicative 3rd Singular of τελέω G5055): and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.

Parsing confirmed: Τετέλεσται = V-RPI-3S (Perfect Passive Indicative, 3rd person singular). Perfect tense = completed action with ongoing results. Passive voice = something was done TO the work, not BY Jesus actively. The sacrifice has been completed and the state of completion holds.

Isaiah 53:4-12 (The Servant's Work)

v.4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. v.5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. v.6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. v.7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth. v.8 He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken. v.9 And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth. v.10 Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand. v.11 He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify (יַצְדִּיק, Hiphil impf 3ms of tsadaq H6663) many; for he shall bear (יִסְבֹּל, Qal impf 3ms) their iniquities. v.12 Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare (נָשָׂא, nasa Qal Perfect 3ms) the sin of many, and made intercession (יַפְגִּיעַ, paga Hiphil Imperfect 3ms) for the transgressors.

CRITICAL TENSE SHIFT in v.12: nasa = Qal Perfect (completed action — he HAS borne sin) / yaphgia = Hiphil Imperfect (ongoing action — he CONTINUES to make intercession). The grammar encodes the two-phase structure: the bearing is done; the intercession continues.

Romans 3:21-26 (hilasterion + dikaiosyne)

v.21 But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets; v.22 Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: v.23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; v.24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: v.25 Whom God hath set forth (προέθετο, Aor Mid Ind 3S of protithemi G4388) to be a propitiation (ἱλαστήριον, hilasterion G2435 — mercy seat/propitiatory) through faith in his blood, to declare (εἰς ἔνδειξιν, "unto a showing forth of") his righteousness (δικαιοσύνης, dikaiosyne G1343) for the remission (πάρεσιν, paresis G3929 — passing over) of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; v.26 To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just (δίκαιον, dikaion G1342), and the justifier (δικαιοῦντα, dikaioo G1344, present active participle) of him which believeth in Jesus.

Key parsing: hilasterion (G2435) = mercy seat/propitiatory — Christ IS the kapporeth. Combined with dikaiosyne = the DOA vocabulary (hilasterion) and vindication vocabulary (dikaiosyne) together, echoing Dan 9:24's kaphar→tsedeq bridge.

Phase 2 — Application / Intercession Passages (Full Chapter Context)

Hebrews 7:24-28

v.24 But this man, because he continueth ever, hath an unchangeable priesthood. v.25 Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost (εἰς τὸ παντελές) that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth (πάντοτε ζῶν, present active participle — ongoing) to make intercession (ἐντυγχάνειν, present active infinitive of entygchano G1793) for them. v.26 For such an high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens; v.27 Who needeth not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the people's: for this he did once (ἐφάπαξ, ephapax G2178), when he offered up himself. v.28 For the law maketh men high priests which have infirmity; but the word of the oath, which was since the law, maketh the Son, who is consecrated for evermore.

Key parsing: v.25: ζῶν (zaon) = Present Active Participle of zao — "living" (ongoing state); ἐντυγχάνειν = Present Active Infinitive — "to make intercession" (ongoing action). v.27: ἐφάπαξ (ephapax G2178) modifies the OFFERING ("when he offered up himself"), NOT the intercession. The adverb attaches to the sacrificial act.

Hebrews 8:1-6 (Sitting + Ministering Concurrent)

v.1 Now of the things which we have spoken this is the sum: We have such an high priest, who is set (ἐκάθισεν, kathizo G2523 — Aorist Active Indicative) on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens; v.2 A minister (λειτουργός, leitourgos G3011) of the sanctuary (τῶν ἁγίων, "of the holies"), and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, and not man. v.3 For every high priest is ordained to offer gifts and sacrifices: wherefore it is of necessity that this man have somewhat also to offer. v.4 For if he were on earth, he should not be a priest... v.5 Who serve unto the example and shadow of heavenly things... v.6 But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry (λειτουργίας, leitourgia G3009), by how much also he is the mediator (μεσίτης, mesites G3316) of a better covenant...

CRITICAL: v.1-2 explicitly combines sitting (kathizo) with ministering (leitourgos). He IS SET on the right hand AND IS a minister of the sanctuary. These are concurrent, not sequential. Sitting does not mean ceased ministry.

1 John 1:5-2:2 (Blood cleanses / Advocate)

1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth (καθαρίζει, katharizo G2511, Present Active Indicative 3S) us from all sin. 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 2:1 My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate (παράκλητον, parakletos G3875) with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: 2:2 And he is the propitiation (ἱλασμός, hilasmos G2434) for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.

Key parsing: καθαρίζει = Present Active Indicative — the blood CLEANSES (present tense, ongoing action) us from all sin. The sacrifice was offered once; the cleansing is continuous. This is application-phase language.

Phase 3 — Declaration / Judgment Passages

Daniel 7:9-10

v.9 I beheld till the thrones were cast down, and the Ancient of days did sit, whose garment was white as snow, and the hair of his head like the pure wool: his throne was like the fiery flame, and his wheels as burning fire. v.10 A fiery stream issued and came forth from before him: thousand thousands ministered unto him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him: the judgment was set, and the books were opened.

Daniel 8:14

And he said unto me, Unto two thousand and three hundred days; then shall the sanctuary be cleansed (וְנִצְדַּק, nitsdaq — Niphal Perfect 3ms of tsadaq H6663 — "be vindicated").

Grammar reference: D:/bible/bible-studies/grammar-reference/passages/dan-8-14.md Key: The ONLY Niphal of tsadaq in the OT. Daniel had taher (cleansing) and kaphar (atonement) available. He chose tsadaq = vindication, not merely cleansing.

Daniel 9:24

Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish (לְכַלֵּא, Piel InfCon of kalah H3615) the transgression (הַפֶּשַׁע, pesha H6588), and to make an end of sins (חַטָּאת, chattaah H2403), and to make reconciliation (וּלְכַפֵּר, Piel InfCon of kaphar H3722) for iniquity (עָוֹן, avon H5771), and to bring in everlasting righteousness (צֶדֶק עֹלָמִים, tsedeq olamim), and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy (קֹדֶשׁ קָדָשִׁים).

Grammar reference: D:/bible/bible-studies/grammar-reference/passages/dan-9-24-27.md Key: Six infinitival purposes. Sin triad (pesha, chattaah, avon) matches Lev 16:21. kaphar→tsedeq bridge: the ONLY verse where DOA vocabulary (kaphar) and vindication vocabulary (tsedeq) appear together.

Revelation 14:7

Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.

Revelation 20:11-15

v.11 And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it... v.12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. v.13-15 ...and they were judged every man according to their works. And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

Hebrews Argument (Full Chapters)

Hebrews 9:1-28

[Full text retrieved — see raw-data/verses-hebrews.md for complete text]

Key verses with parsing: - v.12: εἰσῆλθεν ἐφάπαξ (Aor Act Ind 3S of eiserchomai + ephapax G2178) — "entered once for all" — ephapax modifies the ENTERING (which includes the sacrifice), not subsequent ministry - v.22: "without shedding of blood is no remission" - v.23: τὰ μὲν ὑποδείγματα... καθαρίζεσθαι (Present Passive Infinitive of katharizo G2511) — the patterns needed to be purified; αὐτὰ δὲ τὰ ἐπουράνια κρείττοσιν θυσίαις — "but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices." The heavenly things require purification with better sacrifices. - v.26: ἅπαξ ἐπὶ συντελείᾳ τῶν αἰώνων... πεφανέρωται (Perfect Passive Indicative — "has been manifested") — hapax modifies the appearing/sacrifice - v.28: "Christ was once (hapax G530) offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation" — hapax modifies the OFFERING; the second appearance is distinct and future

Hebrews 10:1-25

Key verses with parsing: - v.10: ἡγιασμένοι ἐσμὲν διὰ τῆς προσφορᾶς τοῦ σώματος Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ ἐφάπαξ — "we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all." ephapax modifies the OFFERING. - v.11: ἕστηκεν (Perfect Active Indicative of histemi G2476 — "stands") — every priest STANDS daily. Perfect tense = ongoing state of standing. No sitting = work never done. - v.12: οὗτος δὲ μίαν... προσενέγκας θυσίαν (Aorist Active Participle — "having offered one sacrifice") εἰς τὸ διηνεκὲς ἐκάθισεν (Aorist Active Indicative of kathizo G2523 — "sat down") — the offering is Aorist (completed); the sitting is Aorist (punctiliar action). - v.13: τὸ λοιπὸν ἐκδεχόμενος (Present Middle/Passive Participle of ekdechomai G1551 — "expecting/waiting") — AFTER sitting, he is EXPECTING. Present tense = ongoing expectation. The sitting does not end activity; it initiates a waiting period. - v.14: μιᾷ γὰρ προσφορᾷ τετελείωκεν (Perfect Active Indicative of teleioo G5048 — "has perfected," completed action with ongoing results) εἰς τὸ διηνεκὲς τοὺς ἁγιαζομένους (Present Passive Participle of hagiazo G37 — "those being sanctified," ongoing process). The single most grammatically compressed verse in the study: Perfect tense (sacrifice complete) + Present participle (sanctification ongoing). Two phases in one sentence.

Sitting-Intercession Passages

Psalm 110:1-4

v.1 The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool. v.4 The LORD hath sworn, and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek.

Key: v.1 (sit) and v.4 (priest forever) are in the same oracle, same person, concurrent realities. Sitting and priesthood are not sequential.

Hebrews 1:3

Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;

Hebrews 12:22-24 (Blood that speaks)

v.22 But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels, v.23 To the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect, v.24 And to Jesus the mediator (μεσίτῃ, mesites G3316) of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling (αἵματι ῥαντισμοῦ), that speaketh (λαλοῦντι, present active participle of laleo G2980 — ONGOING speaking) better things than that of Abel.

Parsing confirmed: λαλοῦντι = Present Active Participle, Dative Singular Masculine — the blood is presently, continuously speaking. This is application-phase language: the sacrifice is past, but the blood continues its active work.

Bridge Passages

2 Corinthians 5:18-21

v.18 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled (καταλλάξαντος, Aorist Active Participle — completed) us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; v.19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. v.21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

Colossians 1:19-22

v.20 And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven. v.21 And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled v.22 In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight:

Revelation 12:11

And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.
