Verses¶
Primary Verses — Core Dan 8 Passage (Full Chapter Context)¶
Daniel 8:10-14 (The Attack and the Verdict)¶
Dan 8:10 And it waxed great, even to the host of heaven; and it cast down some of the host and of the stars to the ground, and stamped upon them. Dan 8:11 Yea, he magnified himself even to the prince of the host, and by him the daily sacrifice was taken away, and the place of his sanctuary was cast down. Dan 8:12 And an host was given him against the daily sacrifice by reason of transgression, and it cast down the truth to the ground; and it practised, and prospered. Dan 8:13 Then I heard one saint speaking, and another saint said unto that certain saint which spake, How long shall be the vision concerning the daily sacrifice, and the transgression of desolation, to give both the sanctuary and the host to be trodden under foot? Dan 8:14 And he said unto me, Unto two thousand and three hundred days; then shall the sanctuary be cleansed.
Context: Dan 8:1-9 (vision of ram, goat, little horn); Dan 8:15-27 (Gabriel's explanation, sealing).
Daniel 8:23-25 (Gabriel's Interpretation of the Horn)¶
Dan 8:23 And in the latter time of their kingdom, when the transgressors are come to the full, a king of fierce countenance, and understanding dark sentences, shall stand up. Dan 8:24 And his power shall be mighty, but not by his own power: and he shall destroy wonderfully, and shall prosper, and practise, and shall destroy the mighty and the holy people. Dan 8:25 And through his policy also he shall cause craft to prosper in his hand; and he shall magnify himself in his heart, and by peace shall destroy many: he shall also stand up against the Prince of princes; but he shall be broken without hand.
Note: "craft" = mirmah (H4820, deceit). Dan 8:25 uses the same root as Dan 8:12's "transgression" theme — the horn's weapon is deception.
The tinnaten→nitsdaq Frame¶
Daniel 8:12 (tinnaten — God permits)¶
And an host was given [tinnaten, Niphal of nathan] him against the daily sacrifice by reason of transgression [pesha], and it cast down the truth [emeth] to the ground; and it practised, and prospered.
Daniel 8:14 (nitsdaq — God sets right)¶
And he said unto me, Unto two thousand and three hundred days; then shall the sanctuary be cleansed [nitsdaq, Niphal of tsadaq].
Grammatical note: Both tinnaten and nitsdaq are Niphal (divine passive). What God permitted (tinnaten), God sets right (nitsdaq). The frame encompasses the entire narrative of Dan 8.
Dan 9:24 — The Bridge Passage (Full Chapter Context)¶
Dan 9:24 Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy. Dan 9:25 Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times. Dan 9:26 And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined. Dan 9:27 And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.
Note: Dan 9:24 is the ONLY verse where DOA vocabulary (kaphar, H3722) and vindication vocabulary (tsedeq, H6664) appear together. Six infinitival purposes: three removing sin (pesha, chattat, avon) + three installing positive realities (tsedeq olamim, sealed prophecy, anointed qodesh qodashim).
Three-Phase Accomplishment Passages¶
Phase 1: The Cross Provides the Ground¶
Daniel 9:24 (see above)¶
Romans 3:21-26 (Full Context)¶
Rom 3:21 But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets; Rom 3:22 Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: Rom 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Rom 3:24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: Rom 3:25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; Rom 3:26 To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.
Note: The Greek parsing shows: dikaios (G1342, adjective, "just") + dikaioun (G1344, present active participle, "the one justifying") — God is simultaneously JUST and the JUSTIFIER. This is the NT articulation of what Dan 9:24 accomplishes: the cross provides the legal ground for both justice and justification.
Isaiah 53:10-12 (Three tsadaq Forms)¶
Isa 53:10 Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand. Isa 53:11 He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities. Isa 53:12 Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.
Note: Isa 53:11 contains: tsaddiyq (H6662, adjective — "righteous" servant) + yatsdiq (H6663, Hiphil — "shall justify" many). The servant is righteous AND causes many to be righteous. Same root as nitsdaq (Dan 8:14). Isa 53:9 also has mirmah (H4820, "deceit") — "neither was any deceit in his mouth" — the Servant's character is the opposite of the horn's method.
Phase 2: Intercession Applies the Benefits¶
Hebrews 7:25¶
Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.
Hebrews 8:1-2¶
Heb 8:1 Now of the things which we have spoken this is the sum: We have such an high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens; Heb 8:2 A minister of the sanctuary, and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, and not man.
Note: "true tabernacle" = alethinos (G228) skene — the same alethinos that appears in the vindication declarations (Rev 15:3; 16:7; 19:2). The heavenly sanctuary is the "genuine" reality that the earthly was a shadow of.
Phase 3: Judgment Declares the Result¶
Daniel 7:9-14 (Full Judgment Scene)¶
Dan 7:9 I beheld till the thrones were cast down, and the Ancient of days did sit, whose garment was white as snow, and the hair of his head like the pure wool: his throne was like the fiery flame, and his wheels as burning fire. Dan 7:10 A fiery stream issued and came forth from before him: thousand thousands ministered unto him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him: the judgment was set, and the books were opened. Dan 7:11 I beheld then because of the voice of the great words which the horn spake: I beheld even till the beast was slain, and his body destroyed, and given to the burning flame. Dan 7:13 I saw in the night visions, and, behold, one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him. Dan 7:14 And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed.
Daniel 7:21-22 (Verdict for Saints)¶
Dan 7:21 I beheld, and the same horn made war with the saints, and prevailed against them; Dan 7:22 Until the Ancient of days came, and judgment was given to the saints of the most High; and the time came that the saints possessed the kingdom.
Note: Sequence: horn acts (7:8,21,25) → judgment convenes (7:9-10) → verdict given to saints (7:22) → horn destroyed (7:11,26). The judgment is pre-advent: the horn is still speaking during the judgment (7:11).
Revelation 22:12¶
And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.
Note: Christ's reward is already determined before His coming — the judgment verdict must precede the advent.
Five Beneficiary Passages¶
Beneficiary 1: God's People — Acquitted¶
Daniel 7:22¶
Until the Ancient of days came, and judgment was given to the saints of the most High; and the time came that the saints possessed the kingdom.
Romans 8:33-34¶
Rom 8:33 Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth. Rom 8:34 Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.
Greek parsing: tis enkalesei kata eklektōn Theou; Theos ho dikaiōn — "Who shall bring charge against the elect of God? [It is] God the one justifying." Present active participle dikaiōn = ongoing justification.
Beneficiary 2: God's Character — Declared Just¶
Revelation 15:3-4¶
Rev 15:3 And they sing the song of Moses the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, Great and marvellous are thy works, Lord God Almighty; just and true are thy ways, thou King of saints. Rev 15:4 Who shall not fear thee, O Lord, and glorify thy name? for thou only art holy: for all nations shall come and worship before thee; for thy judgments are made manifest.
Greek parsing: dikaiai kai alēthinai hai hodoi sou — "just (G1342) and true (G228) [are] thy ways." The saints declare God's character vindicated.
Revelation 19:1-2¶
Rev 19:1 And after these things I heard a great voice of much people in heaven, saying, Alleluia; Salvation, and glory, and honour, and power, unto the Lord our God: Rev 19:2 For true and righteous are his judgments: for he hath judged the great whore, which did corrupt the earth with her fornication, and hath avenged the blood of his servants at her hand.
Greek parsing: alēthinai kai dikaiai hai kriseis autou — "true (G228) and righteous (G1342) [are] his judgments." Both verbs (ekrinen, exedikēsen) are aorist — completed acts: "he judged," "he avenged."
Beneficiary 3: God's Ministry — Recognized as Real¶
Hebrews 8:1-2 (see above)¶
Revelation 16:7¶
And I heard another out of the altar say, Even so, Lord God Almighty, true and righteous are thy judgments.
Greek parsing: The altar (thysiastērion, G2379) itself speaks the verdict: alēthinai kai dikaiai hai kriseis sou. The altar — where the blood was applied, where mediation occurred — declares God's judgments true and righteous. This is the closest NT parallel to nitsdaq qodesh: the sanctuary apparatus itself testifying to the vindication.
Beneficiary 4: God's Truth and Law — Restored¶
Daniel 9:24 (see above — "to bring in everlasting righteousness")¶
Psalms 119:142¶
Thy righteousness is an everlasting righteousness, and thy law is the truth.
Note: tsedeq + olam + torah + emeth — the same vocabulary cluster as Dan 9:24 (tsedeq olamim) and the Revelation declarations (dikaios + alethinos).
Beneficiary 5: The Watching Universe¶
Ephesians 3:10-11¶
Eph 3:10 To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God, Eph 3:11 According to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Note: The church demonstrates God's wisdom to heavenly principalities and powers. The vindication has a cosmic audience.
Revelation 5:13¶
And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, heard I saying, Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, be unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever.
Note: Universal declaration — every creature everywhere. The vindication settles all questions.
Revelation Vindication Declarations (Progressive Chain)¶
1. Revelation 14:7 (Announcement)¶
Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.
Greek: hē hōra tēs kriseōs autou — "the hour of HIS judgment" (genitive of source/subject — God's own judgment). Aorist ēlthen — "has come."
2. Revelation 15:3-4 (Declaration — Saints Sing)¶
Just and true are thy ways, thou King of saints. ... for thy judgments [dikaiōmata, G1345] are made manifest.
Note: dikaiōmata (righteous ordinances/decrees) are "made manifest" (ephanerōthēsan, aorist passive — brought to light). God's righteous decrees are finally visible.
3. Revelation 16:5-7 (Confirmation — Waters + Altar Speak)¶
Rev 16:5 And I heard the angel of the waters say, Thou art righteous, O Lord, which art, and wast, and shalt be, because thou hast judged thus. Rev 16:6 For they have shed the blood of saints and prophets, and thou hast given them blood to drink; for they are worthy. Rev 16:7 And I heard another out of the altar say, Even so, Lord God Almighty, true and righteous are thy judgments.
Note: The altar (sanctuary apparatus) speaks — the closest NT equivalent to "the sanctuary shall be vindicated." The sanctuary itself confirms the verdict.
4. Revelation 19:1-2 (Celebration — Completed)¶
For true and righteous are his judgments: for he hath judged [ekrinen, aorist] the great whore, which did corrupt the earth with her fornication, and hath avenged [exedikēsen, aorist] the blood of his servants at her hand.
Note: Both verbs aorist = completed acts. Vindication is done. The vocabulary chain: dikaios + alethinos runs through all four declarations, corresponding to tsedeq + emeth in Hebrew.
The Kaphar-to-Tsadaq Progression¶
Leviticus 16:30 (Type: kaphar → taher)¶
For on that day shall the priest make an atonement [kaphar] for you, to cleanse [taher] you, that ye may be clean from all your sins before the LORD.
Note: The DOA formula: kaphar produces taher (cleansing). Not vindication — cleansing.
Daniel 9:24 (Bridge: kaphar → tsedeq olamim)¶
...to make reconciliation [kaphar] for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness [tsedeq olamim]...
Note: Same kaphar verb, but now the result is not taher but tsedeq olamim. Daniel elevates the vocabulary from type (ritual cleansing) to antitype (forensic righteousness).
Isaiah 53:11 (Mechanism: sin-bearing → yatsdiq)¶
...by his knowledge shall my righteous [tsaddiyq] servant justify [yatsdiq] many; for he shall bear their iniquities.
Note: The mechanism: the righteous servant bears iniquities → justifies many. Same tsadaq root as nitsdaq (Dan 8:14).
Romans 3:25-26 (Synthesis: hilastērion → dikaios kai dikaiounla)¶
Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation [hilastērion]... that he might be just [dikaios], and the justifier [dikaiounla] of him which believeth in Jesus.
Note: The cross is both propitiation (hilastērion, echoing kaphar) and the basis for God being declared just (dikaios) while justifying believers (dikaiounla). The synthesis of all prior stages.
Daniel 8:14 (Verdict: nitsdaq)¶
...then shall the sanctuary be cleansed [nitsdaq].
Note: The terminus of the progression. What the cross provided (ground), intercession applied (benefit), and the judgment now declares (verdict).
The Zechariah 3 Model¶
Zechariah 3:1-5 (Cleansing + Vindication in One Event)¶
Zech 3:1 And he shewed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the LORD, and Satan standing at his right hand to resist him. Zech 3:2 And the LORD said unto Satan, The LORD rebuke thee, O Satan; even the LORD that hath chosen Jerusalem rebuke thee: is not this a brand plucked out of the fire? Zech 3:3 Now Joshua was clothed with filthy garments, and stood before the angel. Zech 3:4 And he answered and spake unto those that stood before him, saying, Take away the filthy garments from him. And unto him he said, Behold, I have caused thine iniquity to pass from thee, and I will clothe thee with change of raiment. Zech 3:5 And I said, Let them set a fair mitre upon his head. So they set a fair mitre upon his head, and clothed him with garments. And the angel of the LORD stood by.
Note: Three steps in one event: (1) filthy garments removed (taher dimension — cleansing), (2) iniquity caused to pass away (machah dimension — erasure), (3) festival robes given (tsadaq dimension — vindication/investiture). This models how nitsdaq includes but exceeds taher: cleansing removes the negative; vindication adds the positive.
Zechariah 3:8-9¶
Zech 3:8 Hear now, O Joshua the high priest, thou, and thy fellows that sit before thee: for they are men wondered at: for, behold, I will bring forth my servant the BRANCH. Zech 3:9 For behold the stone that I have laid before Joshua; upon one stone shall be seven eyes: behold, I will engrave the graving thereof, saith the LORD of hosts, and I will remove the iniquity of that land in one day.
Note: "I will remove the iniquity of that land in ONE DAY" — echoing the Day of Atonement (one day that addresses all accumulated sin).
The matsdiqey-nitsdaq Connection¶
Daniel 12:3¶
And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness [matsdiqey, Hiphil participle of tsadaq] as the stars for ever and ever.
Note: matsdiqey = Hiphil participle of tsadaq (H6663) — "those causing many to be righteous." Same root as nitsdaq (Niphal of tsadaq). Niphal = sanctuary RECEIVES vindication; Hiphil = maskilim CAUSE MANY to be righteous. Complementary roles, same root.
Additional Context Passages¶
Micah 7:9¶
I will bear the indignation of the LORD, because I have sinned against him, until he plead my cause, and execute judgment for me: he will bring me forth to the light, and I shall behold his righteousness.
Zephaniah 3:5¶
The just LORD is in the midst thereof; he will not do iniquity: every morning doth he bring his judgment to light, he faileth not; but the unjust knoweth no shame.
Psalms 50:3-6¶
Psa 50:3 Our God shall come, and shall not keep silence: a fire shall devour before him, and it shall be very tempestuous round about him. Psa 50:4 He shall call to the heavens from above, and to the earth, that he may judge his people. Psa 50:5 Gather my saints together unto me; those that have made a covenant with me by sacrifice. Psa 50:6 And the heavens shall declare his righteousness: for God is judge himself. Selah.
Note: "The heavens shall declare his righteousness" — cosmic witnesses declaring God's righteousness, paralleling Rev 15:3 and Eph 3:10.
Isaiah 43:26¶
Put me in remembrance: let us plead together: declare thou, that thou mayest be justified [tsadaq, Qal].
Note: God invites trial — "declare, that YOU may be justified." God is confident the evidence vindicates Him.
Job 40:8¶
Wilt thou also disannul my judgment? wilt thou condemn me, that thou mayest be righteous [tsadaq, Qal]?
Note: The cosmic question: will you condemn God to declare yourself righteous? The vindication of the sanctuary answers this — God is vindicated without condemning His people.
Malachi 3:17-18¶
Mal 3:17 And they shall be mine, saith the LORD of hosts, in that day when I make up my jewels; and I will spare them, as a man spareth his own son that serveth him. Mal 3:18 Then shall ye return, and discern between the righteous and the wicked, between him that serveth God and him that serveth him not.
Revelation 19:8¶
And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness [dikaiōmata, G1345] of saints.
Note: dikaiōmata (righteous deeds/ordinances) of the saints — the same word used in Rev 15:4 for God's "judgments made manifest." The vindication produces visible righteousness in God's people.
