Key Grammatical Findings from Library¶
The Niphal of tsadaq (nitsdaq) — Dan 8:14¶
- ONLY Niphal occurrence of tsadaq in the entire OT (confirmed by parser search)
- Niphal = simple passive: sanctuary RECEIVES vindication
- WQtX clause type = predictive weqatal in prophetic direct speech = future certainty
- Root tsadaq = "be righteous/just/vindicated" — NOT ritual cleansing (that would be taher H2891)
- LXX rendered katharisthēsetai ("shall be cleansed") — but Hebrew root is judicial, not ritual
The tinnaten-nitsdaq Divine Passive Frame¶
- tinnaten (Dan 8:12) = Niphal.Impf.3fs of nathan (H5414) — simple passive, divine-passive register
- nitsdaq (Dan 8:14) = Niphal.Perf.3ms of tsadaq (H6663) — same passive stem
- Both Niphal forms with agent suppressed = divine passive
- What God permitted (tinnaten), God sets right (nitsdaq)
Voice Alternation Pattern (Dan 8:10-12)¶
- Zone A (v.11a): ACTIVE Hiphil — horn magnifies itself
- Zone B (v.11b-12a): PASSIVE Hophal/Niphal — tamid removed, sanctuary cast down, host given
- Zone C (v.12b-d): ACTIVE Hiphil/Qal — horn casts truth, acts, prospers
- Grammar draws line: horn's actual reach (active) vs. what happens to sanctuary (passive, agent unnamed)
Dan 9:24 Six Infinitival Purposes¶
- First triad (sin removal): lekhalle (Piel of kalah) + ulehatem (Hiphil of tamam) + ulekapper (Piel of kaphar) — finish transgression, seal up sin, atone for iniquity
- Second triad (positive installation): ulehabi (Hiphil of bo) + velachtom (Qal of chatham) + velimeshoach (Qal of mashach) — bring everlasting righteousness, seal vision, anoint most holy
- kaphar (atonement) and tsedeq (righteousness) appear together ONLY here in the entire OT
