Notes: eiserchmenen (present middle/passive participle, feminine acc sg) — the hope is personified as "entering" into the interior of the veil. The comparative esoteron (A-ASN-C) is substantivized by the article to. The genitive tou katapetasmatos specifies what the interior is relative to.
Hebrews 6:20¶

Notes: eiselthen (aorist active indicative) — punctiliar entry, completed act. genomenos (aorist middle participle) — "having become" a high priest — the participle is circumstantial, indicating the manner or accompanying circumstance of the entry.
Hebrews 9:2-3¶
9:2: σκηνὴ γὰρ κατεσκευάσθη ἡ πρώτη... ἥτις λέγεται Ἅγια (A-NPN = Nom Pl Neuter) - The first tabernacle (skene... he prote) "is called Hagia" — neuter plural nominative
9:3: μετὰ δὲ τὸ δεύτερον καταπέτασμα (T-ASN + A-ASN + N-ASN) σκηνὴ ἡ λεγομένη Ἅγια ἁγίων (A-NPN + A-GPN) - "After the second veil" — to deuteron (accusative, ordinal number) katapetasma - "Called Holy of Holies" — Hagia hagion (superlative Hebrew construction in Greek)
Critical: The author numbers the veils: "the second" (to deuteron) implies a first. He knows there are two katapetasmata in the tabernacle.
Hebrews 9:6-8¶
9:6: εἰς μὲν τὴν πρώτην σκηνὴν (A-ASF-S + N-ASF) ... εἰσίασιν οἱ ἱερεῖς (V-PAI-3P ... N-NPM) - Priests enter (present tense — continual) "the first tabernacle"
9:7: εἰς δὲ τὴν δευτέραν (A-ASF) ἅπαξ τοῦ ἐνιαυτοῦ μόνος ὁ ἀρχιερεύς - "Into the second [skene implied], once a year, the high priest alone"
9:8: τοῦτο δηλοῦντος τοῦ Πνεύματος τοῦ Ἁγίου, μήπω πεφανερῶσθαι (V-RPN = Perf Pass Inf) τὴν τῶν ἁγίων (A-GPN) ὁδὸν (N-ASF) ἔτι τῆς πρώτης σκηνῆς (A-GSF-S + N-GSF) ἐχούσης στάσιν (V-PAP-GSF + N-ASF) - "The way into ton hagion" — genitive plural neuter (the holy places / the holiest) - "The first tabernacle having standing/status" — genitive absolute. stasis can mean "standing" (physical) or "status" (institutional). This is the key ambiguity: does "first tabernacle" = architectural first compartment (blocking physical access) or institutional first-covenant system (having legal status)?
Hebrews 9:11-12¶
9:11: Χριστὸς δὲ παραγενόμενος (V-2ADP-NSM, Aor Mid Ptcp) ἀρχιερεὺς τῶν γενομένων ἀγαθῶν, διὰ τῆς μείζονος (A-GSF-C) καὶ τελειοτέρας (A-GSF-C) σκηνῆς - Two comparative adjectives: "greater" and "more perfect" tabernacle
9:12: οὐδὲ δι' αἵματος τράγων καὶ μόσχων, διὰ δὲ τοῦ ἰδίου αἵματος, εἰσῆλθεν (V-2AAI-3S, Aor Act Ind) ἐφάπαξ (ADV) εἰς τὰ ἅγια (A-APN) - eiselthen ephapax eis ta hagia — "entered once for all into the holy places" - ta hagia here (acc pl neuter) — which compartment? The word form doesn't distinguish. Context must decide.
Hebrews 9:24¶
οὐ γὰρ εἰς χειροποίητα εἰσῆλθεν (V-2AAI-3S) ἅγια Χριστός, ἀντίτυπα (A-APN) τῶν ἀληθινῶν (A-GPN), ἀλλ' εἰς αὐτὸν τὸν οὐρανόν (N-ASM) - "Not into hand-made holy places... but into heaven itself" - antitypa ton alethinon — "copies of the true things" — the earthly sanctuary is the copy - The destination is equated with "heaven itself" — not a specific compartment but "the presence of God" - emphanisthenai (V-APN, Aor Pass Inf) to prosopo tou Theou — "to appear to the face of God" — face-to-face presence language
Hebrews 10:11-12¶
10:11: πᾶς μὲν ἱερεὺς ἕστηκεν (V-RAI-3S, Perf Act Ind) καθ' ἡμέραν λειτουργῶν (V-PAP-NSM, Pres Act Ptcp) καὶ ... προσφέρων (V-PAP-NSM) - hesteken = PERFECT tense — "stands" as completed/ongoing state. The perfect indicates standing is the priest's characteristic condition. - leitourgon = present participle — "ministering" (ongoing) - prospheron = present participle — "offering" (ongoing)
10:12: οὗτος δὲ μίαν ὑπὲρ ἁμαρτιῶν προσενέγκας (V-AAP-NSM, Aor Act Ptcp) θυσίαν εἰς τὸ διηνεκὲς ἐκάθισεν (V-AAI-3S, Aor Act Ind) ἐν δεξιᾷ τοῦ Θεοῦ - prosenkengas = AORIST participle — "having offered" (prior, completed) - ekathisen = AORIST indicative — "sat down" (completed act) - Tense contrast: Perfect standing (ongoing condition) vs. Aorist sitting (completed act following completed offering)
Hebrews 10:19-20¶
10:19: Ἔχοντες (V-PAP-NPM) οὖν... παρρησίαν (N-ASF) εἰς τὴν εἴσοδον τῶν ἁγίων (A-GPN) ἐν τῷ αἵματι Ἰησοῦ - parrhesian eis ten eisodon ton hagion — "boldness for the entrance of the holy places" - ton hagion = genitive plural neuter — same ambiguous form
10:20: ἣν ἐνεκαίνισεν (V-AAI-3S, Aor Act Ind) ἡμῖν ὁδὸν πρόσφατον καὶ ζῶσαν (V-PAP-ASF) διὰ τοῦ καταπετάσματος (N-GSN), τοῦτ' ἔστιν τῆς σαρκὸς (N-GSF) αὐτοῦ - enekainisen — aorist: "he inaugurated" (completed act of opening) - dia tou katapetasmatos — "through the veil" - tout' estin tes sarkos autou — "that is, his flesh" - Gender mismatch: katapetasmatos is neuter genitive; sarkos is feminine genitive. The apposition crosses genders, suggesting the identification veil = flesh is theological/metaphorical, not grammatical.
Hebrews 8:1-2¶
8:1: Κεφάλαιον (N-NSN) ... ὃς ἐκάθισεν (V-AAI-3S, Aor Act Ind) ἐν δεξιᾷ τοῦ θρόνου (N-GSM) τῆς Μεγαλωσύνης ἐν τοῖς οὐρανοῖς - kephalaion = "the main point / sum" — this is the thesis statement - ekathisen = aorist: "sat down" at the right hand of the throne in the heavens
8:2: τῶν ἁγίων λειτουργὸς (N-NSM) καὶ τῆς σκηνῆς τῆς ἀληθινῆς - leitourgos ton hagion — "minister of the holy places/sanctuary" - The one who SAT DOWN (8:1) IS a leitourgos (8:2). Sitting and ministering are combined in the same sentence.
Hebrews 1:3¶
ὃς ὢν ἀπαύγασμα τῆς δόξης... καθαρισμὸν τῶν ἁμαρτιῶν ποιησάμενος (V-AMP-NSM, Aor Mid Ptcp) ἐκάθισεν (V-AAI-3S, Aor) ἐν δεξιᾷ τῆς Μεγαλωσύνης ἐν ὑψηλοῖς - poiesamenos katharismon = aorist participle: "having made purification" (prior completed action) - ekathisen = aorist: "sat down" (subsequent completed action) - Sequence: purging → sitting. The sitting follows the completed sacrifice.
Hebrews 12:2¶
ὃς... ὑπέμεινεν σταυρὸν αἰσχύνης καταφρονήσας, ἐν δεξιᾷ τε τοῦ θρόνου τοῦ Θεοῦ κεκάθικεν (V-RAI-3S, Perf Act Ind) - kekathiken = PERFECT tense — "has sat down / is seated" (resulting state, ongoing) - This is the ONLY Hebrews "sitting" passage in the perfect tense. The others are aorist. Perfect = the sitting has ongoing relevance and continues as a present state.
Acts 16:24 (comparison text for esoteros)¶
ὃς... ἔβαλεν αὐτοὺς εἰς τὴν ἐσωτέραν (A-ASF-C) φυλακὴν (N-ASF) - ten esoteran phylaken — "the inner prison" — attributive position with feminine noun - Same comparative as Heb 6:19 but in a secular spatial context. The prison has an inner/outer distinction; the comparative marks the more secure, further-in cell.
