Daniel 10:12

Hebrew Lemma Parsing Gloss
אַל תִּירָא ירא Verb.Qal.Impf.2ms fear not

בִּדְבָרֶיךָ דבר Noun.mp.Abs.+2ms because of your words

Key findings: lehavin = Hiphil.InfCon of biyn — "to understand." Daniel's heart was SET to understand — the biyn chain shows Daniel's active pursuit. lehit'annoth = Hithpael.InfCon of 'anah — "to humble oneself" (not merely physical fasting but spiritual self-affliction). nishme'u = Niphal.Perf.3p — "your words WERE HEARD" (divine passive).

Daniel 12:1

Hebrew Lemma Parsing Gloss
יַעֲמֹד עמד Verb.Qal.Impf.3ms shall stand

כָּתוּב בַּסֵּפֶר כתב/ספר Qal.Ptcp.passive/Noun.ms written in the book

Key findings: ya'amod (Qal.Impf.3ms) = "shall stand up" — future; ha-'omed (Qal.Ptcp.ms) = "the one standing" — continuous present. Michael's dual action: rises at a specific time AND is continuously standing as protector. yimalet (Niphal.Impf.3ms) = "shall be delivered" — passive: deliverance is received, not achieved.

Daniel 12:2

Hebrew Lemma Parsing Gloss
רַבִּים רב Adj.mp.Abs many
מִיְּשֵׁנֵי ישׁן Adj.mp.Cst from the sleeping ones of
אַדְמַת עָפָר אדמה/עפר Noun.fs.Cst/Noun.ms.Abs soil of dust
יָקִיצוּ קיץ Verb.Hiphil.Impf.3mp shall awake
אֵלֶּה לְחַיֵּי עֹולָם חיים/עולם these to life of eternity
וְאֵלֶּה לַחֲרָפֹות חרפה and these to reproaches
לְדִרְאֹון עֹולָם דראון/עולם to abhorrence of eternity

Key findings: yeshene = "sleepers" (from yashen, adj.) — death described as sleep. admat-'aphar = "soil of dust" (construct chain) — the physical location of the dead. yaqitsu = Hiphil.Impf.3mp of quts — "shall awake" (causative: God causes them to wake). der'aon (H1860) = "abhorrence" — appears only here and Isa 66:24. The dual outcome is starkly stated: eternal life vs. eternal contempt.

Daniel 12:3

Hebrew Lemma Parsing Gloss
הַמַּשְׂכִּלִים שׂכל Verb.Hiphil.Ptcp.mp the ones acting wisely (maskilim)
יַזְהִרוּ זהר Verb.Hiphil.Impf.3mp shall shine
כְּזֹהַר הָרָקִיעַ זהר/רקיע Noun.ms.Cst/Noun.ms.Abs as the brightness of the firmament
וּמַצְדִּיקֵי צדק Verb.Hiphil.Ptcp.mp.Cst and the ones causing to be righteous of
הָרַבִּים רב Adj.mp.Abs the many
כַּכֹּוכָבִים כוכב Noun.mp.Abs as the stars
לְעֹולָם וָעֶד עולם/עד Noun.ms/Noun.ms forever and ever

Key findings: maskilim = Hiphil.Ptcp.mp of sakal — "the wise ones / those who act with circumspect insight." matsdiqey = Hiphil.Ptcp.mp.Cst of tsadaq — "those causing to be righteous" (causative: they turn others TO righteousness). Same root as nitsdaq in 8:14. yazihru = Hiphil.Impf.3mp of zahar — "shall shine/give light" (causative: they emit brightness). The image parallels stars — which both shine and guide.

Daniel 12:8

Hebrew Lemma Parsing Gloss
וַאֲנִי אני PersPron.1s and I
שָׁמַעְתִּי שׁמע Verb.Qal.Perf.1s heard
וְלֹא אָבִין בין Verb.Qal.Impf.1s and not I-understand
וָאֹמְרָה אמר Verb.Qal.Wayq.1s and I said
אֲדֹנִי אדון Noun.ms.Abs.+1us my lord
מָה מה IntPron what
אַחֲרִית אחרית Noun.fs.Cst end/latter part of
אֵלֶּה אלה DemPron.p these

Key findings: lo avin = Qal.Impf.1s of biyn — "I do not understand." NOT the Qal.Perfect (completed) form used in 10:1. This is imperfective aspect — the NOT-understanding is ongoing/attempted. The antecedent of "these" (elleh) = the time periods just disclosed in 12:7 (time, times, half) and about to be disclosed in 12:11-12 (1290, 1335). Daniel understood the mar'eh (10:1) but does NOT understand these additional time elements. acharith elleh = "the latter end/outcome of these" — not just "what do they mean?" but "what is the outcome/culmination?"

Daniel 12:10

Hebrew Lemma Parsing Gloss
יִתְבָּרֲרוּ ברר Verb.Hithpael.Impf.3mp shall purify themselves
וְיִתְלַבְּנוּ לבן Verb.Hithpael.Impf.3mp and shall be made white
וְיִצָּרְפוּ צרף Verb.Niphal.Impf.3mp and shall be refined
רַבִּים רב Adj.mp.Abs many
וְהִרְשִׁיעוּ רשׁע Verb.Hiphil.Perf.3p and the wicked have acted wickedly
רְשָׁעִים רשׁע Adj.mp.Abs wicked
וְלֹא יָבִינוּ בין Verb.Qal.Impf.3mp and shall not understand
כָּל רְשָׁעִים כל/רשׁע Noun.ms.Cst/Adj.mp all the wicked
וְהַמַּשְׂכִּלִים שׂכל Verb.Hiphil.Ptcp.mp and the wise ones
יָבִינוּ בין Verb.Qal.Impf.3mp shall understand

Key findings: 1. Three purification verbs: yitbararu (Hithpael — reflexive purifying), yitlabbenu (Hithpael — reflexive whitening), yitsarfu (Niphal — passive refining). SAME three roots as Dan 11:35 but different stems — 11:35 uses active/Piel; 12:10 uses reflexive/passive. 2. hirshi'u (Hiphil.Perf.3p of rasha) — "have acted wickedly" — perfective aspect: the wicked's condition is established. 3. The biyn chain CONCLUSION: lo yavinu (Qal.Impf.3mp) = "shall not understand" — wicked; yavinu (Qal.Impf.3mp) = "shall understand" — maskilim. The verb biyn is the discriminating marker. Understanding is not merely intellectual — it is character-dependent. 4. maskilim (Hiphil.Ptcp.mp of sakal) — the SAME word used in 11:33, 11:35, 12:3 — a consistent eschatological category.

Daniel 12:13

Hebrew Lemma Parsing Gloss
וְאַתָּה אתה PersPron.2ms and you

לְגֹרָלְךָ גורל Noun.ms.Abs.+2ms to your lot
לְקֵץ הַיָּמִין קץ/יום Noun.ms.Cst/Noun.mp.Abs at the end of the days

Key findings: 1. Three imperatives/imperfects forming a sequence: lekh (go) → tanuach (rest) → ta'amod (stand) 2. tanuach = Qal.Impf.2ms of nuach — "you shall rest/settle" — death-sleep 3. ta'amod = Qal.Impf.2ms of 'amad — "you shall stand" — resurrection 4. le-goralekha = "to/for your lot" (goral + 2ms suffix + le preposition) — your allotted portion/inheritance 5. le-qets ha-yamin = "at the end of the days" — the eschatological terminus 6. The pastoral sequence: go your way → die and rest → rise to your inheritance at the end
