Isaiah 53:12

Hebrew: לָכֵ֞ן אֲחַלֶּק־לֹ֣ו בָרַבִּ֗ים ... וְהוּא֙ חֵטְא־רַבִּ֣ים נָשָׂ֔א וְלַפֹּשְׁעִ֖ים יַפְגִּֽיעַ׃

נָשָׂ֔א נשׂא (nasa) Verb.Qal.Perf.3ms lift/bear
יַפְגִּֽיעַ פגע (paga) Verb.Hiphil.Impf.3ms meet/intercede
הֶעֱרָ֤ה ערה Verb.Hiphil.Perf.3ms pour out

חֵטְא חטא Noun.ms.Cst offence/sin
פֹּשְׁעִ֖ים פשׁע Verb.Qal.Ptcp.mp.Abs rebel/transgressor

CRITICAL TENSE ANALYSIS: - nasa (H5375): Qal PERFECT 3ms — completed action — "he BORE the sin of many" - yaphgia (H6293): Hiphil IMPERFECT 3ms — ongoing/incomplete action — "he MAKES intercession for the transgressors" - The shift from perfective (completed bearing) to imperfective (continuing intercession) is grammatically deliberate and theologically significant - Additional perfects: heerah (poured out soul — completed), nimnah (was numbered — completed) - The entire verse: completed sacrifice (perfects) → ongoing intercession (imperfect)

Isaiah 59:16

Hebrew: וַיַּרְא֙ כִּֽי־אֵ֣ין אִ֔ישׁ וַיִּשְׁתֹּומֵ֖ם כִּ֣י אֵ֣ין מַפְגִּ֑יעַ

Hebrew Lemma Parsing Gloss
מַפְגִּ֑יעַ פגע (paga) Verb.Hiphil.Ptcp.ms.Abs intercessor

Key: maphgia = Hiphil Participle of paga — an active participle describing a person who intercedes. YHWH was appalled (yishtomem, Hithpael) that there was NO intercessor. His own arm (zero'o) brought salvation. This anticipates the Servant of Isa 53 who WILL be the intercessor.

Psalms 141:2

Hebrew: תִּכֹּ֤ון תְּפִלָּתִ֣י קְטֹ֣רֶת לְפָנֶ֑יךָ מַֽשְׂאַ֥ת כַּ֝פַּ֗י מִנְחַת־עָֽרֶב׃

Hebrew Lemma Parsing Gloss
תִּכֹּ֤ון כון (kun) Verb.Niphal.Impf.3fs be firm/established
תְּפִלָּתִ֣י תפלה (tephillah) Noun.fs.Abs+1cs prayer
קְטֹ֣רֶת קטרת (qetoreth) Noun.fs.Abs incense/smoke of sacrifice
מַֽשְׂאַ֥ת משׂאת (mas'eth) Noun.fs.Cst lifting up
כַּ֝פַּ֗י כף (kaph) Noun.fd.Abs+1cs palm of hand
מִנְחַת מנחה (minchah) Noun.fs.Cst grain/meal offering
עָֽרֶב ערב (ereb) Noun.ms.Abs evening

Key equations established: - Prayer (tephillah) = incense (qetoreth) — before God's face (lephaneykha) - Lifting of hands (mas'ath kapay) = evening offering (minchath ereb) - The prayer-as-incense metaphor is embedded in Hebrew poetry, not just an NT invention

Exodus 30:7-8

v.7: וְהִקְטִ֥יר עָלָ֛יו אַהֲרֹ֖ן קְטֹ֣רֶת סַמִּ֑ים בַּבֹּ֣קֶר בַּבֹּ֗קֶר

קְטֹ֣רֶת קטרת (qetoreth) Noun.fs.Cst incense
סַמִּ֑ים סם (sam) Noun.mp.Abs perfume/spice

v.8: קְטֹ֧רֶת תָּמִ֛יד לִפְנֵ֥י יְהוָ֖ה לְדֹרֹתֵיכֶֽם

Hebrew Lemma Parsing Gloss
תָּמִ֛יד תמיד (tamid) Noun.ms.Abs continuity/perpetual

Key: qetoreth TAMID lipne YHWH — "perpetual incense before the LORD" — the incense service is characterized by tamid (unbroken continuity) and is performed lipne YHWH (before the face/presence of the LORD). This directly parallels Christ's ongoing appearing "in the presence of God for us" (Heb 9:24).
