Construct State (hebrew/construct-state.md)¶
Source: D:/bible/bible-studies/grammar-reference/hebrew/construct-state.md
Applied to this study: - qodesh la-YHWH (Exo 28:36): NOT a construct chain — it is a prepositional phrase. qodesh (noun, ms, Abs) + la- (preposition "to/for") + YHWH (proper noun). The la- indicates dedication/belonging. Contrast with a construct chain like qodesh-YHWH which would mean "holiness of YHWH" (possessive). - avon ha-qodashim (Exo 28:38): Standard construct chain. avon (Noun.ms.Cst = "iniquity of") + ha-qodashim (Art + Noun.mp.Abs = "the holy things"). The iniquity belongs to/is associated with the holy things. - choshen ha-mishpat (Exo 28:29): Standard construct chain. choshen (Noun.ms.Cst = "breastplate of") + ha-mishpat (Art + Noun.ms.Abs = "the judgment"). - nezer ha-qodesh (Exo 29:6; 39:30): Standard construct chain. nezer (Noun.ms.Cst = "crown of") + ha-qodesh (Art + Noun.ms.Abs = "the holiness" = "the holy crown"). - mattenot qodshehem (Exo 28:38): Construct chain. mattenot (Noun.fp.Cst = "gifts of") + qodshehem (Noun.mp.Abs+3mp = "their holy things").
Hiphil Stem (hebrew/stem-hiphil.md)¶
Source: D:/bible/bible-studies/grammar-reference/hebrew/stem-hiphil.md
Applied to this study: 1. he'evarti (Zech 3:4): Hiphil.Perf.1s of avar (H5674). Causative-factitive (primary Hiphil function). "I have CAUSED your iniquity to PASS from you." The divine subject causes the removal. Qal of avar = "pass over/through"; Hiphil = "cause to pass" = actively remove.
-
hasiru (Zech 3:4): Hiphil.Impv.2mp of sur (H5493). Causative imperative. "CAUSE to turn aside" = "Take away!" The removal of filthy garments is a causative action commanded by the Angel.
-
yaqdishu (Exo 28:38): Hiphil.Impf.3mp of qadash (H6942). "Which they shall CAUSE to be holy" = "which they shall consecrate/hallow." The Israelites actively consecrate their offerings through the Hiphil of qadash.
-
yaphgia (Isa 53:12): Hiphil.Impf.3ms of paga (H6293). "He will CAUSE to meet" = "he will intercede." The Hiphil of paga converts "meet/encounter" into "cause encounter between parties" = mediate/intercede. This is the verb that pairs with nasa in the definitive priestly formula: bearing + interceding.
-
he'erah (Isa 53:12): Hiphil.Perf.3ms of arah (H6168). "He CAUSED to pour out his soul unto death." The Servant's death is presented as a causative action — He made His soul an offering.
Key grammatical observations for the analysis agent:¶
- The Hiphil stem in Zech 3:4 (he'evarti) makes God the active CAUSER of iniquity removal — not merely permitting or declaring but actively bringing about the transfer.
- The combination of hasiru (imperative: command to remove garments) + he'evarti (perfect: I have caused iniquity to pass) shows the garment removal AS the mechanism of iniquity removal — they are not sequential but simultaneous.
- The Hiphil of labash in Zech 3:4-5 (vehalbbesh, vayyalbishuhu) makes the Angel/attendants the agents who CLOTHE Joshua — divine investiture, not self-clothing.
