Verses¶
Question¶
How does the Genesis-Revelation bookend structure work? Map the seven parallel pairs (tree of life, river, no more curse, face of God, very good/all things new, serpent, marriage) with LXX vocabulary chains. Does Matthew 24 provide a structural key to the seal sequence (Rev 6)? Does Paul's man of lawlessness (2 Thess 2:3-12) parallel Revelation's beast, using Daniel 7:25 as the common source?
God's Verdict: Very Good¶
And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, [it was] very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.
Context: The concluding verdict of creation week. tov meod (very good) is the authoritative divine assessment before the fall. Bookend pair: Gen 1:31 original goodness -> Rev 21:5 eschatological renewal.
Notes: Hebrew: tov meod (very good). LXX: kalon lian. kalon (G2570) replaced by kainos (G2537) in Rev 21:5.
Tree of Life in Eden¶
And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
Context: The etz hachayyim (tree of life) at the center of Eden. LXX: xylon tes zoes (G3586 + G2222) - identical phrase at Rev 22:2 and 22:14. A-VERBAL IDENTITY.
Notes: Hebrew: etz hachayyim (H6086 + H2416). LXX: xylon tes zoes (G3586 + G2222). Appears at Rev 2:7, 22:2, 22:14. Classification: A-VERBAL IDENTITY.
River Flowing from Eden¶
And a river went out of Eden to water the garden; and from thence it was parted, and became into four heads.
Context: The nahar (river) flowing from Eden. Second bookend pair with Rev 22:1. LXX: potamos (G4215) for nahar (H5104).
Notes: Hebrew: nahar (H5104). LXX: potamos (G4215). PMI 32.49. Rev 22:1 adds hydatos zoes via Ezek 47 intermediary.
The First Marriage: Adam and Eve¶
And Adam said, This [is] now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.
Context: Institution of marriage at creation. Seventh bookend pair: Gen 2:23-24 (first marriage) -> Rev 19:7-9 (marriage of the Lamb). Hebrew ishshāh (H802) -> LXX gynē (G1135).
Notes: Hebrew: ishshāh (H802), ish (H376). LXX: gynē (G1135). Eph 5:31-32 quotes Gen 2:24 LXX verbatim and calls it a mystery concerning Christ and the church.
The Serpent's Entrance¶
Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?
Context: The nachash (H5175) makes its first appearance. Fifth bookend anchor: Gen 3:1 (serpent enters) -> Rev 12:9 and 20:2 (serpent identified as devil and Satan). LXX ophis (G3789).
Notes: Hebrew: nachash (H5175). LXX: ophis (G3789). PMI 31.32. Rev 12:9: ho ophis ho archaios ho kaloumenos Diabolos kai ho Satanas.
The Temptation and Fall¶
But of the fruit of the tree which [is] in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. And when the woman saw that the tree [was] good for food, and that it [was] pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make [one] wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.
Context: The serpent's lie directly contradicts God's word. 2 Cor 11:3 connects this event to satanic deception of the church.
Notes: Hebrew: lo mut temutun (ye shall not surely die). Three-fold appeal (good for food, pleasant to eyes, desired for wisdom) anticipates 1 John 2:16. 2 Cor 11:3: exapataō (G1818, thoroughly deceive).
Hiding from the Face of God¶
And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden.
Context: Fourth bookend anchor: Gen 3:8 (hiding from God's face) -> Rev 22:4 (his servants shall see his face). Hebrew panim (H6440) -> LXX prosopon (G4383).
Notes: Hebrew: panim (H6440), mithallekh (Hithpael participle). LXX: prosopon (G4383). Rev 22:4 opsetai to prosopon autou - direct reversal.
Curse on the Serpent and Protoevangelium¶
And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou [art] cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life: And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.
Context: The protoevangelium: Gen 3:15 seed-of-the-woman language fulfilled in Rev 12:1-5 (woman gives birth to male child) and Rev 20:2 (serpent bound).
Notes: Hebrew: shuph (H7779, bruise/crush), rosh (H7218, head), aqev (H6119, heel), eybah (H342, enmity), zera (H2233, seed). Same root H7779 for both bruising occurrences - protoevangelium symmetry.
The Curse on the Ground¶
And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed [is] the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat [of] it all the days of thy life; Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field;
Context: Third bookend anchor: arur ha'adamah (H779 + H127) -> Rev 22:3 no more curse (katathema, G2652). LXX renders arur as epikataratos (G1944).
Notes: Hebrew: arur (H779, Qal passive participle), ha'adamah (H127), atzavon (H6093). LXX: epikataratos (G1944). Rev 22:3 uses katathema (G2652, NT hapax) - comprehensive reversal.
Expulsion and the Tree of Life Barred¶
And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever: Therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken. So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.
Context: The tree of life blocked by cherubim after the fall. Rev 22:2 and 22:14 restore full access.
Notes: Hebrew: keruvim (H3742), lahat (H3858, flame), cherev (H2719, sword), hithpakekhet (turning, Hithpael participle), lishmor derek etz hachayyim.
River of Water of Life from the Throne¶
And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb.
Context: River bookend resolution (pair 2): potamon hydatos zoes from the throne of God and the Lamb. Source shifts from geographic Eden to the divine throne. Ezek 47:1-12 is the OT intermediary.
Notes: Greek: potamon (G4215) hydatos (G5204) zoes (G2222) ekporeuomenon (G1607, proceeding) ek tou thronou tou theou kai tou arniou (G721).
Tree of Life Restored¶
In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, [was there] the tree of life, which bare twelve [manner of] fruits, [and] yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree [were] for the healing of the nations.
Context: Tree of life bookend resolution (pair 1): xylon tes zoes - A-VERBAL IDENTITY with Gen 2:9 LXX. The tree blocked by cherubim (Gen 3:24) is now fully accessible.
Notes: Greek: xylon (G3586) tes zoes (G2222). Identical phrase in LXX Gen 2:9, Rev 2:7, Rev 22:2, Rev 22:14. Adds karpon dodeka (twelve fruits) kata mena, phyla eis therapeian tōn ethnōn echoing Ezek 47:12.
No More Curse; They Shall See His Face¶
And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him: And they shall see his face; and his name [shall be] in their foreheads. And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall reign for ever and ever.
Context: Curse reversal (pair 3) and face-of-God reversal (pair 4). Rev 22:3: pan katathema ouk estai eti abolishes Gen 3:17 curse. Rev 22:4: opsetai to prosopon autou reverses Gen 3:8 hiding.
Notes: Rev 22:3: katathema (G2652, NT hapax). Rev 22:4: opsetai (G3708, future middle 3pl) to prosopon (G4383). Rev 22:5: ouk estin eti (no more night). TM216 ouk eti cluster.

And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God [is] with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, [and be] their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.
Context: Bookend pair 6 resolution: Gen 1:31 tov meod -> Rev 21:5 kaina poiō panta. kainos (G2537, qualitative newness). TM216 ouk eti negation cluster. Covenant formula fulfilled in direct divine dwelling.

The Ancient Serpent Identified¶
And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.
Context: Serpent pair explicit identification: ho ophis ho archaios = Devil and Satan. archaios (G744, primeval/from the beginning) is the direct verbal link to the Genesis serpent.
Notes: Greek: ho drakon (G1404) ho megas, eblēthē (G906, aorist passive), ho ophis (G3789) ho archaios (G744), kaloumenos (G2564) Diabolos (G1228) kai ho Satanas (G4567). Four-fold identification formula.

Notes: Greek: ho diabolos (G1228) ho planōn (G4105) autous, eblēthē eis tēn limnēn tou pyros (G4442) kai theiou (G2303). basanisthēsontai (G928) hēmeras kai nyktos eis tous aionas tōn aiōnōn.
The Marriage of the Lamb¶
Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready. And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints. And he saith unto me, Write, Blessed [are] they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he saith unto me, These are the true sayings of God.
Context: Marriage bookend resolution (pair 7): elthen ho gamos tou arniou. The prototype marriage of Gen 2:22-24 finds eschatological fulfillment.
Notes: Greek: elthen (G2064, aorist) ho gamos (G1062) tou arniou (G721), hē gynē (G1135) autou hetoimasen (G2090) heautēn. byssinos (G1040) lampros kai katharos. makarioi hoi keklēmenoi eis to deipnon (G1173) tou gamou tou arniou.

Olivet Discourse: Beginning of Birth Pangs¶
And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. All these are the beginning of sorrows.
Context: SP114 positions 1-4. False christs (seal 1), wars (seal 2), famines (seal 3), death (seal 4). Matt 24:8: archē ōdinōn (beginning of birth pangs) frames the sequence as preliminary.
Notes: Greek: planao (G4105) v.4; polemos (G4171) v.6; limoi (G3042), seismoi (G4578) v.7. archē (G746) ōdinōn (G5604, birth pangs, genitive pl) v.8. TM218: pseudochristos and planao ABSENT from Rev 6:2.

And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.
Context: SP114 positions 6-7. Triple match on sun/moon/stars with Rev 6:12-13 is A-VERBAL IDENTITY - the strongest verbal correspondence in SP114.

First Four Seals: Conquest, War, Famine, Death¶
And I saw when the Lamb opened one of the seals, and I heard, as it were the noise of thunder, one of the four beasts saying, Come and see. And I saw, and behold a white horse: and he that sat on him had a bow; and a crown was given unto him: and he went forth conquering, and to conquer. And when he had opened the second seal, I heard the second beast say, Come and see. And there went out another horse [that was] red: and [power] was given to him that sat thereon to take peace from the earth, and that they should kill one another: and there was given unto him a great sword. And when he had opened the third seal, I heard the third beast say, Come and see. And I beheld, and lo a black horse; and he that sat on him had a pair of balances in his hand. And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say, A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny; and [see] thou hurt not the oil and the wine. And when he had opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth beast say, Come and see. And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the earth.
Context: SP114 positions 1-4: false christs/conquest (seal 1), war (seal 2), famine (seal 3), death (seal 4). The four horses encapsulate Matt 24:4-8's preliminary signs.
Notes: Seal 1: hippos leukos, stephanos (G4735), nikōn. Seal 2: hippos pyrros, machaira megalē (G3162), eirēnē (G1515) taken. Seal 3: hippos melas, zygon (G2218), choinix sitou dēnariou (famine prices). Fifth Seal: Martyrs Under the Altar¶
And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held: And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth? And white robes were given unto every one of them; and it was said unto them, that they should rest yet for a little season, until their fellowservants also and their brethren, that should be killed as they [were], should be fulfilled.
Context: Fifth seal = SP114 position 5. Souls slain dia ton logon tou theou kai dia tēn martyrian - directly matching Matt 24:9. A-VERBAL IDENTITY in SP114.
Notes: Greek: psychas (G5590) tōn esphagsmenōn (G4969) dia ton logon tou theou kai dia tēn martyrian. stolas leukas (G4749 + G3022) given to each. heos plērōthōsin (G4137) hoi syndouloi kai hoi adelphoi.
Sixth Seal: Cosmic Signs and Terror¶
And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood; And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind. And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places. And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?
Context: SP114 position 6. Triple match on sun/moon/stars with Matt 24:29 is A-VERBAL IDENTITY. Anticipated by Joel 2:31 and Isa 13:10.
Notes: Greek: hēlios egeneto melas hōs sakkos; holē hē selēnē egeneto hōs haima; hoi asteres tou ouranou eipiton eis tēn gēn. Six social classes hiding in caves. hē hēmera hē megalē tēs orgēs (cf. Joel 2:31).
The Man of Sin Revealed¶
Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.
Context: SP115 node 2: ho anthrōpos tēs anomias (G444 + G458). Self-exaltation above all that is called God echoes Dan 11:36-37. Temple-sitting (naon tou theou kathizonta) is the key self-deification claim.
Notes: Greek (2 Thess 2:4): ho antikeimenos (G480) kai huperairomenon (G5229) epi panta legomenon theon ē sebasma (G4574), eis ton naon (G3485) tou theou kathisai apodeiknunta heauton hoti estin theos. Key terms: anomia (G458), apōleia (G684).
Mystery of Lawlessness and the Lawless One¶
For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth [will let], until he be taken out of the way. And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming: Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,
Context: The mystery of lawlessness already at work (SP115 not purely future). The lawless one's destruction by pneumati tou stomatos autou connects to Dan 7:8 (stoma laloun megala) and Rev 19:15.
Notes: Greek (2 Thess 2:8): ho anomos (G459) apokalyphthēsetai (G601) hon ho kyrios analōsei (G355) tō pneumati tou stomatos autou, katargēsei (G2673) tē epiphaneia (G2015) tēs parousias (G3952). v.9: energeian (G1753) tou satana kai sēmeiois (G4592) kai terasin (G5059) pseudous (G5579).
God Sends Strong Delusion¶
And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
Context: Judicial delusion sent by God upon those who reject truth. Connects to Rev 13:14 (false prophet deceives) and Rev 12:9 (dragon deceives the whole world).
Notes: Greek: pempsei (G3992) autois ho theos energeian planēs (G4105) eis to pisteusai autous tō pseudei (G5579). hina krithōsin (G2919) pantes hoi mē pisteusantes tē alētheia alla eudokēsantes (G2106) tē adikia (G93).
The Beast from the Sea¶
And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy. And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority. And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world wondered after the beast. And they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who [is] like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him? And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty [and] two months. And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, and them that dwell in heaven. And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations. And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.
Context: SP115 node 3, drawing from Dan 7:25 (stoma laloun megala) and Dan 7:1-7 four-beast sequence. Dragon gives beast authority - completing the unholy trinity. SP117: one figure bifurcates into two beasts.
Notes: Greek: therion (G2342) ek tēs thalassēs. Composite: pardali + arktou + leontos = Dan 7 recapitulated. edothē autō stoma laloun megala (TM205) = verbatim Theodotion Dan 7:8. tessarakonta kai duo mēnas = Dan 7:25 time formula. edothē poiēsai polemon meta tōn hagiōn = Dan 7:25 wearing out saints.
The Second Beast: False Prophet¶
And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon. And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed. And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men, And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by [the means of] those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live. And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed.
Context: SP117: Paul's one man of lawlessness bifurcates into two beasts, the second being the false prophet. Uses sēmeia (G4592) connecting to 2 Thess 2:9.
Notes: Greek: allo therion (G243 + G2342) anabainon ek tēs gēs, kerata duo hōs arniou, elalei hōs drakōn. sēmeia megala (G4592 + G3173) - connects to 2 Thess 2:9. Rev 16:13: pseudoprophētēs (G5578). SP116 unholy trinity: dragon + first beast + false prophet.
Little Horn with Great Mouth¶
I considered the horns, and, behold, there came up among them another little horn, before whom there were three of the first horns plucked up by the roots: and, behold, in this horn [were] eyes like the eyes of man, and a mouth speaking great things.
Context: SP115 source passage. The little horn's mouth speaking great things (Aramaic: peh millel ravrevan; LXX Theodotion: stoma laloun megala) is the common verbal source for both 2 Thess 2 and Rev 13:5.
Notes: Aramaic: peh millel ravrevan. LXX Theodotion Dan 7:8: stoma laloun megala (G4750 + G2980 + G3173) - TM205. Rev 13:5: edothē autō stoma laloun megala kai blasphēmias - verbatim quotation of Theodotion formula.
Little Horn: Times and Laws Changed¶
And he shall speak [great] words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time.
Context: SP115 source node with three elements: (1) speaking great words against God -> Rev 13:5, (2) wearing out the saints -> Rev 13:7, (3) time formula 3.5 years -> Rev 13:5 forty-two months.
Notes: Aramaic: millel ravrevan le'alla (speak great things against the Most High), yeballē qaddishē (wear out saints), lhashna'ah zimnin we'dat (change times and law). Time: 3.5 years = 42 months. LXX Theodotion: chronon kai chronous kai hēmisy chronou.
Blessed: Access to the Tree of Life¶
Blessed [are] they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.
Context: Fourth use of xylon tes zoes in Revelation. Access to the tree of life (blocked Gen 3:24, promised Rev 2:7) is the reward for keeping God's commandments.
Notes: Greek: makarioi (G3107) hoi poiountes (G4160) tas entolas autou hina estai hē exousia autōn epi to xylon tēs zōēs (G3586 + G2222) kai tois pylōsin eiselthōsin eis tēn polin. A-VERBAL IDENTITY with Gen 2:9 LXX.
Overcomer Promise: Tree of Life in Paradise¶
He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.
Context: First of seven overcomer promises and first use of xylon tes zoes in Revelation. paradeisos (G3857) is the LXX word for the Garden of Eden (Gen 2:8 LXX: paradeisos en Edēm).
Notes: Greek: tou xylou (G3586) tēs zōēs (G2222) ho estin en tō paradeisō (G3857) tou theou. 3 NT occurrences of paradeisos: Luke 23:43, 2 Cor 12:4, Rev 2:7. Paradise of God = New Jerusalem = restored Eden.
No Temple - God and Lamb Are the Temple¶
And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it.
Context: Absence of physical temple: God and the Lamb are the naon (G3485). Reverses 2 Thess 2:4 where the man of lawlessness sits in the naon claiming to be God.
Notes: Greek: naon (G3485) ouk eidon en autē. ho gar kyrios ho theos ho pantokratōr (G3841) naos autēs estin kai to arnion (G721). naon connects directly to 2 Thess 2:4 - there the temple is usurped; here God himself is the temple.
The Serpent's Lie and the Fall¶
Context: The serpent's direct contradiction of God's word initiates the fall. 2 Cor 11:3 explicitly links the serpent's deception of Eve to the danger of the church being corrupted from simplicity in Christ.
Notes: Hebrew: lo mut temutun (ye shall not surely die) - double negation. ra'ah ki tov (saw that good) + nechemad (desired) + lehaskil (to make wise). 2 Cor 11:3: exapataō (G1818, thoroughly deceive) for the serpent's action.
Isaiah's New Creation Promise¶
For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind. But be ye glad and rejoice for ever [in that] which I create: for, behold, I create Jerusalem a rejoicing, and her people a joy. And I will rejoice in Jerusalem, and joy in my people: and the voice of weeping shall be no more heard in her, nor the voice of crying. The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, and the lion shall eat straw like the bullock: and dust [shall be] the serpent's meat. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain, saith the LORD.
Context: Primary OT source for Rev 21:1 new heaven and new earth. Hebrew bara chadash shamayim wa'arets -> LXX poiō kainos ouranos kai gē. Isa 65:25 notes dust shall be the serpent's meat - reinforcing Gen 3:14.
Notes: Hebrew: bara (H1254) chadashim (H2319) shamayim (H8064) we'arets (H776). LXX: poiō kainos ouranon kai gēn kainēn. The no-more-weeping anticipates Rev 21:4 ouk eti cluster.
Leviathan the Piercing Serpent Slain¶
In that day the LORD with his sore and great and strong sword shall punish leviathan the piercing serpent, even leviathan that crooked serpent; and he shall slay the dragon that [is] in the sea.
Context: Isaiah's eschatological slaying of leviathan/dragon connects to Rev 20:10 and uses the same dragon vocabulary. The sea-dragon motif links to Rev 13:1.
Notes: Hebrew: livyatan (H3882) nachash (H5175) bariach (H1281) nachash aqalaton; tanniyn (H8577, dragon) asher bayyam. LXX: drakōn (G1404) ho en tē thalassē - exact vocabulary of Rev 12:9 and 20:2.
River from the Temple: Life-Giving Waters¶
Afterward he brought me again unto the door of the house; and, behold, waters issued out from under the threshold of the house eastward: for the forefront of the house stood toward the east, and the waters came down from under from the right side of the house, at the south side of the altar.
Context: Ezekiel's visionary river is the OT intermediary between Gen 2:10 (river from Eden) and Rev 22:1 (river from the throne). Ezek 47:12 trees/fruit/healing leaves pass directly into Rev 22:1-2.
Notes: Hebrew: mayim yotze'im mittachat miphthan ha-bayit. Ezek 47:12: peri lema'akhal we'alehw lirphva (fruit for food, leaves for healing). Rev 22:2: eis therapeian (G2322) tōn ethnōn - echoing Ezek 47:12 LXX. AN094: river three-source trajectory.
The Covering Cherub in Eden¶
Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone [was] thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created.
Context: Ezekiel 28:13 identifies a being in Eden, paralleling the serpent of Gen 3 and providing the heavenly/angelic background of the serpent, connecting to Rev 12:9.
Notes: Hebrew: be'Eden gan-Elohim (in Eden the garden of God) hayita (you were). Nine precious stones may relate to the New Jerusalem's twelve foundation stones (Rev 21:19-20).
The Willful King¶
And the king shall do according to his will; and he shall exalt himself, and magnify himself above every god, and shall speak marvellous things against the God of gods, and shall prosper till the indignation be accomplished: for that that is determined shall be done. Neither shall he regard the God of his fathers, nor the desire of women, nor regard any god: for he shall magnify himself above all.
Context: Second source for the SP115 figure. Self-exaltation above every god directly informs 2 Thess 2:4 (huperairomenon epi panta legomenon theon).
Notes: Hebrew: ve'al kol-el (above every god) yithgadal (magnify himself). The indignation (za'am, H2195) has a prophetic time-limitation - connecting to the 42-month framework of Rev 13:5.
Creation Groaning for Redemption¶
For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God. For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected [the same] in hope, Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God. For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.
Context: Paul's cosmic theology: the whole creation is subject to futility because of the fall (Gen 3:17-18) and groans for eschatological liberation reversed in Rev 21-22.
Notes: Greek: apokaradokia (G603, earnest expectation). hypetage tē mataiotēti (G3153, subjected to futility). stenazo (G4727, groan) + synodinō (G4944, travail together) - birth-pang vocabulary echoing Matt 24:8 archē ōdinōn.
Gates Never Shut¶
And the gates of it shall not be shut at all by day: for there shall be no night there.
Context: Gates of New Jerusalem never shut - reversing Gen 3:24 (cherubim barring the tree of life). No darkness, no threat, no enemy.
Notes: Greek: hoi pylōnes (G4440) ou mē kleisthōsin (double negation, emphatic) hēmeras. nyx gar ouk estai ekei. Reverses Gen 3:24 closed garden and fulfills Isa 60:11 (gates open continually).
Many Antichrists in John's Day¶
Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time.
Context: antichristos (G500) already manifesting in John's time - connects to 2 Thess 2:7 (mystery of lawlessness already at work). SP115 pattern is not purely future.
Notes: Greek: antichristos (G500) - 5 NT occurrences, all in John's epistles. eschate hora (last hour). The prefix anti means both against and in place of.
Spirit of Antichrist Already in the World¶
And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that [spirit] of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.
Context: The spirit of antichrist operates in denial of the Incarnation. Extends the SP115 figure from political power (Rev 13) to theological deception.
Notes: Greek: pan pneuma ho mē homologei (G3670) Iēsoun Christon en sarki elēlythota ek tou theou ouk estin. pneuma tou antichristou. The Incarnation test: confession vs. denial of Christ come in the flesh.
Deceivers Who Deny the Incarnation¶
For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist.
Context: The planoi (deceivers, G4108) who deny the incarnation are antichrists. Connects to 2 Thess 2:9-10 lying signs to deceive and Rev 13:14 false prophet deceiving the earth.
Notes: Greek: planoi (G4108) polloi exēlthan eis ton kosmon hoi mē homologountes Iēsoun Christon erchomenon en sarki. houtos estin ho planos kai ho antichristos.
The Woman Clothed with the Sun¶
And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars: And she being with child cried, travailing in birth, and pained to be delivered. And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads. And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born. And she brought forth a man child, who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron: and her child was caught up unto God, and [to] his throne.
Context: Narrative fulfillment of Gen 3:15 protoevangelium: the woman (covenant people) gives birth to the male child (Christ) caught up to God's throne, while the dragon attempts to devour him.
Notes: Greek: gynē (G1135) peribeblēmenē ton hēlion. ōdinousa (G5605, labor/birth pangs) kai basanizomenē (G928). drakon (G1404) pyrros (G4450) megas. arsena huion poimainein panta ta ethnē en rhabdō sidēra. hērpasthē to teknon pros ton theon.
Dragon Makes War with the Remnant¶
And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.
Context: After failing to destroy the male child, the dragon turns against the remnant who keep God's commandments and hold the testimony of Jesus. Connects to Rev 13:7 and 2 Thess 2:9-12.
Notes: Greek: hoi tērountes (G5083) tas entolas tou theou (G2316) kai echontes (G2192) tēn martyrian Iēsou Christou (G3141). spermatos (G4690) links verbally to Gen 3:15 (sperma of the woman).
Sun Dark, Moon to Blood Before the Day of the LORD¶
The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the LORD come.
Context: Primary OT source for the cosmic signs of the sixth seal (Rev 6:12-13). The sun-to-darkness/moon-to-blood formula is the most cited cosmic-sign formula in biblical eschatology.
Notes: Hebrew: shemesh yehapekh lehoshekh weha-yareah ledam. LXX: ho hēlios metastraphēsetai eis skotos kai hē selēnē eis haima. Rev 6:12: hēlios egeneto melas hōs sakkos, holē hē selēnē egeneto hōs haima. Acts 2:20 quotes Joel 2:31 LXX verbatim.
Cosmic Signs in Isaiah's Day of the LORD¶
For the stars of heaven and the constellations thereof shall not give their light: the sun shall be darkened in his going forth, and the moon shall not cause her light to shine.
Context: Isaiah 13 (oracle against Babylon) provides OT source material for Rev 6:12-13 cosmic signs, confirming the sixth seal draws from OT day-of-the-LORD tradition.
Notes: Hebrew: kochevei hashamayim lo yahu orram; hashemesh (H8121) batzetho chashakh (H2821); hayareah (H3394) lo yahil orah. Same sun/moon/stars vocabulary as Matt 24:29 and Rev 6:12-13.
Persecution Before the Signs¶
But before all these, they shall lay their hands on you, and persecute [you], delivering [you] up to the synagogues, and into prisons, being brought before kings and rulers for my name's sake.
Context: Luke's parallel to Matt 24:9 (SP114 position 5) - persecution comes 'before all these' (cosmic signs), consistent with seal 5 martyrdom preceding seal 6 cosmic signs.
Notes: Greek: pro de toutōn panton (before all these) epibalousin eph' hymas tas cheiras kai diōxousin (G1377) paradidountes eis synagōgas kai phylakas. basileis kai hēgemonas (G2232) heneken tou onomatos mou.
Mark's Olivet Cosmic Signs¶
But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun shall be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, And the stars of heaven shall fall, and the powers that are in heaven shall be shaken. And then shall they see the Son of man coming in the clouds with great power and glory. And then shall he send his angels, and shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from the uttermost part of the earth to the uttermost part of heaven.
Context: Mark's version confirms the three-gospel SP114 pattern for positions 6-7. The four-winds gathering of the elect anticipates Rev 7 sealing of 144,000.
Notes: Greek: ho hēlios skotisthēsetai (G4654), hē selēnē ou dōsei to phengos autēs, hoi asteres tou ouranou esontai piptuntes. Son of man erchomenon en nephelais (G3507) meta dynameōs pollēs kai doxēs. apostelei tous angelous episynaxai (G1996) tous eklektous (G1588).
The Beast That Was, Is Not, and Shall Be¶
The beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and go into perdition: and they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet is.
Context: The beast's 'was, is not, and yet is' is a parody of the divine 'who is and was and is to come.' Ultimately consigned to apōleian (G684) - same word as 2 Thess 2:3 'son of perdition.'
Notes: Greek: ēn kai ouk estin kai mellei anabainein ek tēs abyssou (G12) kai eis apōleian (G684) hypagei. Parodies Rev 1:4 (ho ōn kai ho ēn kai ho erchomenos). apōleian connects to 2 Thess 2:3 (ho huios tēs apōleias).
The Sharp Sword from Christ's Mouth¶
And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.
Context: The sharp sword from Christ's mouth connects to 2 Thess 2:8 where the Lord 'shall consume [the lawless one] with the spirit of his mouth.' Same stoma vocabulary creates the verbal link.
Notes: Greek: ek tou stomatos (G4750) autou ekporeuetai (G1607) rhomphaia (G4501) oxeia hina en autē pataxē (G3960) ta ethnē. poimanei en rhabdō sidēra (G4464 + G4603). stoma ties: Dan 7:8, Rev 13:5, 2 Thess 2:8, Rev 19:15.
The Aaronic Blessing: Face of God¶
The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee: The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.
Context: The Aaronic priestly blessing anticipates Rev 22:4's direct face-vision. The panim (H6440) of God shining upon his people is the OT intermediate expression between Gen 3:8 hiding and Rev 22:4 beatific vision.
Notes: Hebrew: ya'er (H215, Hiphil, cause to shine) YHWH panav (H6440) elecha vichuneka (H2603). yisa YHWH panav elecha veyasem lecha shalom (H7965). panav -> prosopon (LXX). Rev 22:4 fulfills: opsetai to prosopon autou.
No Man Can See God's Face and Live¶
And he said, Thou canst not see my face: for there shall no man see me, and live.
Context: Exod 33:20 establishes the intermediate-state rule: no human can see God's face directly and survive. Rev 22:4's 'they shall see his face' is the definitive eschatological reversal.
Notes: Hebrew: lo tukhal lir'ot et panai (you cannot see my face) ki lo yir'ani ha'adam vachai (for no man shall see me and live). Rev 22:4 resolves this: the redeemed see his face because fully conformed to his image.
New Heavens and New Earth of Righteousness¶
Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.
Context: Peter's anticipation grounds the new creation in 'his promise' - pointing to Isa 65:17 and 66:22. The dwelling of dikaiosynē (righteousness) reverses the corruption introduced by the fall.
Notes: Greek: kainous ouranous (G2537 + G3772) kai gēn kainēn kata to epangelma autou (G1862, promise) prosdokōmen (G4328). en hois dikaiosynē (G1343) katoikei (G2730). Points to Isa 65:17; 66:22.
New Creation Permanence¶
For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me, saith the LORD, so shall your seed and your name remain.
Context: Second major OT prophecy of new heavens and new earth (with Isa 65:17), confirming the permanence of the new creation. Rev 21:1 fulfills this.
Notes: Hebrew: hashamayim hachadashim wha'arets hachadashah asher ani oseh omedim (standing, present participle) lefanai. LXX: ho ouranos ho kainos kai hē gē hē kainē ha egō poiō diamenei enōpion mou.
God's Dwelling and End of Suffering¶
And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God [is] with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, [and be] their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.
Context: Covenant formula fulfilled in direct divine dwelling. Rev 21:4 ouk eti cluster (no more death, tears, crying, pain) comprehensively reverses the fall's consequences (Gen 3:16-19).
Notes: Greek: hē skēnē (G4633) tou theou meta tōn anthrōpōn. skenoo (G4637). Covenant formula: autoi laoi autou esontai - echoes Jer 31:33, Ezek 37:27. ouk eti: thanatos (G2288), penthos (G3997), kraugē (G2906), ponos (G4192).
Worthy to Receive Glory: Creator God¶
Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.
Context: The throne-room doxology establishes creation as the basis of God's worthiness. The same creator who made all things very good (Gen 1:31) will make all things new (Rev 21:5).
Notes: Greek: axios ei (G514) ho kyrios kai ho theos hēmōn labein tēn doxan (G1391) kai tēn timēn (G5092) kai tēn dynamin (G1411). hoti sy ektisas (G2936) ta panta kai dia to thelēma sou (G2307) ēsan kai ektisthēsan.
Come, I Will Show You the Bride¶
And there came unto me one of the seven angels which had the seven vials full of the seven last plagues, and talked with me, saying, Come hither, I will shew thee the bride, the Lamb's wife.
Context: The angel's announcement 'I will show you the bride' - then shows John the holy city Jerusalem (Rev 21:10-11). Provides the interpretive key: the bride = the city = the people of God.
Notes: Greek: tēn nymphēn (G3565) tēn gynaika tou arniou (G1135). Then shows the holy city Jerusalem - bride = New Jerusalem = covenant people. Compare Rev 17:1-3 where same formula introduces harlot Babylon.
Your Maker is Your Husband¶
For thy Maker [is] thine husband; the LORD of hosts [is] his name; and thy Redeemer the Holy One of Israel; The God of the whole earth shall he be called.
Context: OT basis for the marriage metaphor applied to Israel/the church: YHWH is husband (ba'al, H1166) to his people. Grounds the Rev 19:7-9 marriage of the Lamb in OT covenant theology.
Notes: Hebrew: bo'alaik (H1166, your husband) oshaik (H6213, your maker) YHWH Tzvaot (H6635) shemo. LXX: ho kyrios ho poiōn se kyrios Sabaōth onoma autō.
The Land Married: Covenant Restoration¶
Thou shalt no more be termed Forsaken; neither shall thy land any more be termed Desolate: but thou shalt be called Hephzibah, and thy land Beulah: for the LORD delighteth in thee, and thy land shall be married. For [as] a young man marrieth a virgin, [so] shall thy sons marry thee: and [as] the bridegroom rejoiceth over the bride, [so] shall thy God rejoice over thee.
Context: The marriage metaphor for covenant restoration between God and his people. The bridegroom-rejoicing-over-bride image directly prepares for Rev 19:7.
Notes: Hebrew: Beulah (H1166, married) as new name. kechatan yasis al-kallah yasis alayik Elohayik. LXX: nymphiou (G3566) chairōn epi nymphēn (G3565) - direct LXX source for Rev 19:7 marriage imagery.
One Flesh: The Great Mystery¶
For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones. For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh. This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.
Context: Paul's theological mediation making the Genesis 2 marriage (bookend 7) explicitly about Christ and the church. Eph 5:31 quotes Gen 2:24 LXX verbatim, then Eph 5:32 declares: 'This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.'
Notes: Greek: mysterion (G3466) mega (G3173) touto estin. Gen 2:24 quoted in Eph 5:31. Paul: alla egō legō eis Christon kai eis tēn ekklēsian. Interpretive key for the entire marriage bookend.
Serpent's Beguiling of Eve: Warning to the Church¶
But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.
Context: Paul's direct reference to Gen 3:1-6: the ophis (G3789) that beguiled Eve is the type of satanic deception threatening the church. Connects Genesis serpent to ongoing SP115 dynamic.
Notes: Greek: ho ophis (G3789) exēpatēsen (G1818, thoroughly deceived) Heuan (G2096, Eve) en tē panourgia autou (G3834, craftiness). phthartē ta noēmata (G3540) apo tēs haplotētos (G572) tēs eis Christon. ophis here identical to LXX Gen 3 serpent and Rev 12:9/20:2.
The Everlasting Gospel to All Nations¶
And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people,
Context: The first angel of Rev 14 carries the everlasting gospel (euangelion aiōnion) to every nation. Connects to Matt 24:14 (gospel preached in all the world, then the end come).
Notes: Greek: euangelion (G2098) aiōnion (G166, everlasting) euangelisai (G2097) tous kathēmenous epi tēs gēs. Four-fold universal formula: epi pan ethnos kai phylēn (G5443) kai glōssan (G1100) kai laon (G2992).
