Question

How does Revelation draw on Exodus plague typology in the trumpet and bowl sequences, how does Rev 13:2 composite the four Danielic beasts in reverse order with Dan 7 as the explicit decoder, and how does Dan 7:9-10 serve as the structural template for the great white throne judgment in Rev 20:11-13?

G1668 — ἕλκος (helkos)

Source: G1668-hélkos.md

Occurrences: 3

Ulcer/sore. NT: 3 occurrences — Luk 16:21 (Lazarus), Rev 16:2 (Bowl 1), Rev 16:11 (referenced again). LXX primary bridge H7822 shechin (11 co-occ, PMI 10.64) — the sixth plague boils of Exo 9:9-11. Rev 16:2 helkos kakon kai poneron is the direct lexical echo of Exo 9:9 shechin parach = 'boil breaking forth.' Strongest single LXX vocabulary chain between bowls and plagues.

Semantic categories: bowl judgment plague, LXX plague 6 echo, Exodus typology

Key verses: Rev 16:2, Rev 16:11, Exo 9:9, Exo 9:10, Exo 9:11

Relevance: Bowl 1 / Plague 6 direct LXX bridge. The word helkos appears only in Revelation among all bowl descriptions with a direct Exodus precedent.

G5464 — χάλαζα (chalaza)

Source: G5464-chalaza.md

Occurrences: 4

Hail. 4 NT tokens in 3 verses — all in Revelation: Rev 8:7 (Trumpet 1), Rev 11:19 (theophany), Rev 16:21 (Bowl 7). LXX bridge H1259 barad (21 co-occ, PMI 9.58, composite PMI 29.60). Every NT occurrence of chalaza is in Revelation; all echo the Exodus hail plague (Exo 9:18-35). Trumpet 1 combines chalaza + pyr + haima; Bowl 7 chalaza is talent-weight — eschatological intensification.

Semantic categories: trumpet judgment, bowl judgment, LXX plague 7 echo, Exodus typology

Key verses: Rev 8:7, Rev 11:19, Rev 16:21, Exo 9:23, Exo 9:24

Relevance: Trumpet 1 and Bowl 7 both echo Plague 7 via chalaza. The word is exclusive to Revelation in NT — a deliberate Exodus marker.

G944 — βάτραχος (batrachos)

Source: G944-bátrachos.md

Occurrences: 1

Frog. NT hapax — Rev 16:13 only. LXX bridge H6854 tsephardea (13 co-occ, PMI 10.77) — perfect one-to-one correspondence; every OT frog occurrence renders as batrachos in LXX. NT hapax status means Rev 16:13 is a deliberate and exclusive Exodus Plague 2 allusion. The three frog-spirits emerge from the mouths of the unholy trinity (dragon, beast, false prophet).

Semantic categories: bowl judgment, LXX plague 2 echo, Exodus typology, unholy trinity

Key verses: Rev 16:13, Exo 8:2, Exo 8:6

Relevance: NT hapax whose sole use is a direct LXX allusion to Plague 2. Bowl 6 frog-spirits = Exodus frogs from a supernatural source.

G129 — αἷμα (haima)

Source: G129-haima.md

Occurrences: 99

Blood. 99 NT tokens; 17 occurrences in Revelation. LXX bridge H1818 dam (269 co-occ, PMI 34.72) — highest PMI blood bridge. Trumpet 1 (Rev 8:7) adds haima to the chalaza+pyr combination. Trumpets 2-3 and Bowls 2-3 all involve water becoming blood. The blood vocabulary throughout the trumpet-bowl sequence echoes Plague 1 (Nile to blood) at escalating scope.

Semantic categories: trumpet judgment, bowl judgment, LXX plague 1 echo, Exodus typology

Key verses: Rev 8:7, Rev 8:8, Rev 16:3, Rev 16:4, Exo 7:17, Exo 7:20

Relevance: Plague 1 blood vocabulary echoes through Rev 8:7-9 (trumpets) and Rev 16:3-4 (bowls). Haima is the most frequently recurring plague vocabulary bridge.

G200 — ἀκρίς (akris)

Source: G200-akris.md

Occurrences: 4

Locust. 4 NT verses — Matt 3:4, Mark 1:6 (John the Baptist's diet), Rev 9:3, Rev 9:7 (Trumpet 5 locusts). LXX bridge H697 arbeh (19 co-occ, PMI 9.52). The LXX collapses multiple locust words (arbeh, chagab, yeleq, chasil) into akris. Rev 9:3-10 locusts invert the Exodus mandate: Plague 8 locusts destroy vegetation; Trumpet 5 locusts are forbidden from harming vegetation and may only harm the unsealed.

Semantic categories: trumpet judgment, LXX plague 8 echo, Exodus typology, Goshen principle

Key verses: Rev 9:3, Rev 9:4, Rev 9:7, Exo 10:4, Exo 10:14

Relevance: Trumpet 5 locust echo of Plague 8. The reversal (vegetation spared; unsealed targeted) applies the Goshen principle to the trumpet sequence.

G3917 — πάρδαλις (pardalis)

Source: G3917-pardalis.md

Occurrences: 1

Leopard. NT hapax — Rev 13:2 only. LXX bridge H5246 namer (5 co-occ, PMI 11.88). The leopard body of the composite beast corresponds to Dan 7:6 (the third beast, with 4 heads and 4 wings). Rev 13:2 lists pardalis first (leopard body) — the reverse of Dan 7's order where the leopard is the third beast.

Semantic categories: composite beast, Dan 7 echo, animal imagery

Key verses: Rev 13:2, Dan 7:6

Relevance: NT hapax exclusively at Rev 13:2. The leopard body is the dominant visible form of the composite beast — representing the most recent empire form before the composite.

G715 — ἄρκος (arkos)

Source: G715-arktos.md

Occurrences: 1

Bear. NT hapax — Rev 13:2 only. LXX bridge H1677 dob (10 co-occ, PMI 10.62). The bear feet of the composite beast correspond to Dan 7:5 (the second beast, with ribs in its mouth). Rev 13:2 lists the bear second (feet) — reversing Dan 7's bear-second order.

Semantic categories: composite beast, Dan 7 echo, animal imagery

Key verses: Rev 13:2, Dan 7:5

Relevance: NT hapax exclusively at Rev 13:2. Bear feet = the crushing, stamping power of the second Danielic empire present in the composite.

G3023 — λέων (leon)

Source: G3023-leon.md

Occurrences: 9

Lion. 9 NT verses. LXX bridge H738 ari/aryeh (66 co-occ, PMI 7.75). Rev 13:2 lion mouth = Dan 7:4 first beast (Babylon). Rev 5:5 Lion of Judah = Christ. Rev 9:17 horse-heads with lion-mouths. The lion mouth in Rev 13:2 gives the composite beast the roaring authority of the first Danielic empire.

Semantic categories: composite beast, Dan 7 echo, messianic title, animal imagery

Key verses: Rev 13:2, Rev 5:5, Dan 7:4

Relevance: Rev 13:2 lion mouth = the speaking authority of Babylon (Dan 7:4) transferred to the composite. Rev 5:5 shows Christ as the true Lion — the counterfeit in Rev 13 parodies the authentic.

G2342 — θηρίον (therion)

Source: G2342-therion.md

Occurrences: 46

Wild beast. 46 NT occurrences, 38 in Revelation (82%). LXX bridge Aramaic H2423 cheyva (PMI 7.78) — Daniel's word for his four beasts. Key distinction: therion (wild beast, threatening) vs. zōon (G2226, living creature, holy). Rev 13:1-2 therion = Dan 7 cheyva. The word appears 38 times in Revelation — the single most concentrated book.

Semantic categories: composite beast, Dan 7 echo, Revelation beast imagery

Key verses: Rev 13:1, Rev 13:2, Rev 13:4, Rev 13:11, Dan 7:3, Dan 7:7

Relevance: The primary vocabulary bridge between Dan 7 cheyva and Rev 13 therion. 82% of NT therion is in Revelation.

G932 — βασιλεία (basileia)

Source: G932-basileia.md

Occurrences: 162

Kingdom. 154 NT verses. LXX bridges H4437 malkuw Aramaic (41 co-occ, PMI 23.90), H4438 malkuwth (66 co-occ, PMI 26.01), H4467 mamlakah (83 co-occ, PMI 26.90). Dan 7:17 (beasts = kings/kingdoms), 7:23 (fourth beast = fourth kingdom), 7:27 (kingdom given to saints) — all use Aramaic malkuw which bridges to basileia. Rev 16:10 'his kingdom full of darkness' — the beast's basileia.

Semantic categories: kingdom, Dan 7 decoder, divine sovereignty

Key verses: Dan 7:17, Dan 7:23, Dan 7:27, Rev 16:10, Rev 11:15

Relevance: Dan 7 beast=kingdom equation (Dan 7:17,23) uses malkuw → basileia. Rev 13 composite beast is a composite of Danielic kingdoms. Rev 16:10 'his kingdom' (basileia autou) falls under Bowl 5.

G4750 — στόμα (stoma)

Source: G4750-stoma.md

Occurrences: 79

Mouth. 72 NT verses. LXX bridge H6310 peh (316 co-occ). Revelation has 18 occurrences at 4.5/100 vv — highest density in NT. Rev 13:5 stoma laloun megala = verbatim LXX Dan 7:8,11,20. Rev 16:13 three frog-spirits emerge from the stomata of the unholy trinity — mouth as source of false prophecy.

Semantic categories: composite beast, Dan 7 echo, blasphemy, false prophecy

Key verses: Rev 13:5, Rev 13:6, Rev 16:13, Dan 7:8, Dan 7:11, Dan 7:20

Relevance: stoma laloun megala (Rev 13:5) is the verbatim LXX citation of Dan 7:8 — the strongest single textual link between Daniel and Revelation.

G2053 — ἔριον (erion)

Source: G2053-erion.md

Occurrences: 2

Wool. 2 NT occurrences — Heb 9:19 (scarlet wool for covenant ratification) and Rev 1:14 (Christ's hair white like wool). LXX bridges H6785 tsemer (8 co-occ, PMI 10.30) and H6015 amar Aramaic (Dan 7:9 'hair like pure wool'). Rev 1:14 directly echoes Dan 7:9's Ancient of Days description — merging the Ancient of Days attributes onto Christ.

Semantic categories: Ancient of Days, Christological merger, Dan 7 echo, white throne

Key verses: Rev 1:14, Dan 7:9, Heb 9:19

Relevance: erion bridges Dan 7:9 Ancient of Days to Rev 1:14 Christ — the Christological merger of Son of Man and Ancient of Days.

G2362 — θρόνος (thronos)

Source: G2362-thronos.md

Occurrences: 61

Throne. 50 NT verses (61 tokens). 36 in Revelation (72%, 8.9/100 vv). Dan 7:9: 'thrones were placed' (kursawan remiw) and 'the Ancient of Days sat.' Rev 4:2: throne set in heaven. Rev 20:11: great white throne. Rev 13:2: dragon gives the beast his throne. The throne is the central governance symbol in both Daniel and Revelation.

Semantic categories: divine throne, Dan 7 echo, beast authority, great white throne

Key verses: Rev 4:2, Rev 13:2, Rev 20:11, Dan 7:9

Relevance: The thrones of Dan 7:9 are the structural background for the great white throne of Rev 20:11. The beast receives a counterfeit throne from the dragon (Rev 13:2).

G975 — βιβλίον (biblion)

Source: G975-biblion.md

Occurrences: 32

Book/scroll. 28 NT verses; 18 in Revelation (64%). Dan 7:10: siprin petichuw (books were opened, Peil divine passive). Rev 20:12: biblia enoichthesan (books were opened, aorist passive divine) — exact structural parallel. The judicial function (books opened for judgment) is identical in both passages.

Semantic categories: books of judgment, Dan 7 echo, great white throne, book of life

Key verses: Rev 20:12, Rev 5:1, Dan 7:10, Dan 12:1

Relevance: Dan 7:10 'books were opened' (siprin petichuw) → Rev 20:12 'books were opened' (biblia enoichthesan). Same divine passive, same judicial function.

G4127 — πληγή (plege)

Source: G4127-plege.md

Occurrences: 21

Plague/stroke. 21 NT occurrences; 14 in Revelation (67%, 3.5/100 vv). Rev 16:9 uses plege to describe the bowl sequence as 'these plagues' — self-referential. Rev 15:6 seven angels with the seven plegas (plagues). Rev 9:20 'the rest of men repented not of the works of their hands.' The word bridges Exodus plague and Revelation bowl sequences explicitly.

Semantic categories: bowl judgments, plague vocabulary, Exodus typology

Key verses: Rev 15:6, Rev 16:9, Rev 16:21, Rev 9:20

Relevance: plege is the Revelation self-designation for the bowl sequence as 'plagues' — confirming the author's intentional Exodus typological framework.

G5357 — φιάλη (phiale)

Source: G5357-phiale.md

Occurrences: 12

Bowl/vial. 12 NT occurrences — all in Revelation (exclusive). Rev 5:8: golden vials full of incense (prayers of saints). Rev 15:7: seven golden vials full of the wrath of God. Rev 16:1-17: the seven bowls poured. Prior study TM119: vessel transformation from incense bowls (5:8) to wrath bowls (15:7) — the prayers of the saints are answered in the bowl judgments.

Semantic categories: bowl judgments, sanctuary imagery, vessel typology

Key verses: Rev 5:8, Rev 15:7, Rev 16:1

Relevance: phiale is exclusive to Revelation — all 12 NT occurrences are in Revelation. The bowl/vial is the structural container for the Exodus-typological plague sequence.

G2739 — καυματίζω (kaumatizo)

Source: G2739-kaumatizō.md

Occurrences: 4

Scorch. 4 NT occurrences — Matt 13:6, Mark 4:6 (Sower parable), Rev 16:8, Rev 16:9 (Bowl 4). Not in LXX — no Hebrew bridge. NT-only verb. Bowl 4 scorching has no direct Exodus plague equivalent, making Bowl 4 one of the two bowls (with Bowl 7 escalation) that depart from strict Exodus mapping.

Semantic categories: bowl judgment, heat/fire imagery

Key verses: Rev 16:8, Rev 16:9

Relevance: Bowl 4 is the bowl without direct Exodus LXX vocabulary. kaumatizo's absence from LXX confirms that Bowl 4 extends beyond strict plague typology.

G976 — βίβλος (biblos)

Source: G976-biblos.md

Occurrences: 13

Book/scroll (feminine noun). 10 unique NT verses. Distinct from G975 biblion (diminutive): G976 biblos = the papyrus-based book itself; G975 = small book/scroll. G976 appears in Rev 20:15 (book of life) and Rev 3:5 (book of life, Christ will not blot out the name). The book of life (biblos tēs zoēs) determines eschatological standing at the Great White Throne (Rev 20:12,15). Dan 12:1 uses sefer (H5612) for the book of life — the Dan 7:9-10 judgment scene + Dan 12:1 book of life converge in Rev 20:11-15.

Semantic categories: book of life, great white throne, Dan 7 echo, judgment vocabulary

Key verses: Rev 20:12, Rev 20:15, Rev 3:5, Rev 13:8, Dan 12:1

Relevance: The book of life (biblos) at the Great White Throne (Rev 20:12,15) completes the Dan 7:9-10 template: books opened (Dan 7:10 → Rev 20:12 G975) + book of life (Rev 20:15, G976) together constitute the complete judicial record.

G3173 — μέγας (megas)

Source: G3173-megas.md

Occurrences: 212

Great/large/loud. 200 unique NT verses. Core vocabulary of Revelation's superlative register. stoma laloun megala (Rev 13:5) — megala (A-APN, accusative plural neuter object of laloun): the great things the beast speaks. thronon megan leukon (Rev 20:11) — megan (A-ASM, agrees with thronon masculine): the great white throne. Megala kai thaumasta (Rev 15:3) — megala (A-NPN, nominative neuter plural): great and marvelous works. The Aramaic equivalent in Dan 7:8 is millin rabberevan (great words) = Greek megala.

Semantic categories: stoma laloun megala, great white throne, superlative register, Dan 7 echo

Key verses: Rev 13:5, Rev 20:11, Rev 15:3, Rev 16:21, Dan 7:8

Relevance: megala in Rev 13:5 (stoma laloun megala) is the direct LXX echo of LXX Dan 7:8 stoma laloun megala — verbatim match. The word appears in four study-critical contexts: beast's great-speaking (13:5), great white throne (20:11), Song of Moses great works (15:3), great plague of hail (16:21).

G2980 — λαλέω (laleo)

Source: G2980-laleo.md

Occurrences: 308

To speak/talk/utter. 271 NT unique verses. In Rev 13:5: laloun (V-PAP-NSN, present active participle nominative singular neuter) — agrees with stoma (neuter) as a participial predicate: 'a mouth speaking great things.' This is the critical parsing: the present tense (ongoing action) combined with nominative neuter agreement with stoma (not with a person) makes the mouth itself the subject of the speaking — the beast's very mouth has continuous great-speaking as its function. LXX Dan 7:8,20: stoma laloun megala (exactly the same construction). The Theodotion LXX renders Dan 7:8's little horn as having a stoma laloun megala — verbatim match to Rev 13:5.

Semantic categories: stoma laloun megala, Dan 7 echo, blasphemy, present active participle

Key verses: Rev 13:5, Rev 13:6, Dan 7:8, Dan 7:11, Dan 7:20

Relevance: laloun (present active participle nominative singular neuter, Rev 13:5) agrees with stoma neuter — 'mouth speaking.' The LXX Dan 7:8,20 stoma laloun megala is verbatim: same construction. This is the strongest single grammatical link between Daniel and Revelation.

A4437 — מַלְכוּ (malkuw)

Source: A4437-malkuw.md

Occurrences: 43

Aramaic kingdom/dominion. 43 occurrences in Aramaic portions of OT (primarily Daniel). This is the explicit decoder word in Dan 7:23: cheyevata reviyayta = malkuw reviyayta ('the fourth beast = the fourth kingdom'). Also Dan 7:17 (malkin = kings, the beast-king equivalence). The Aramaic malkuw is the within-text hermeneutical key for reading Rev 13:2's composite beast as a composite of world kingdoms. LXX bridge: malkuw → G932 basileia (PMI 23.90, 41 co-occ). Dan 7:14 ('there was given him malkuw, all people shall serve him') → Rev 5:9; 7:9 (all nations). Dan 7:27 (malkuw given to saints) → Rev 20:4,6.

Semantic categories: Dan 7 decoder, beast = kingdom, Aramaic, corporate solidarity

Key verses: Dan 7:17, Dan 7:23, Dan 7:27, Dan 7:14, Rev 13:2

Relevance: Dan 7:17,23 provide the within-text decoder: beast = king/kingdom. This within-text authorial decoder is the basis for reading Rev 13:2's composite beast as a composite of Danielic kingdoms. malkuw → G932 basileia is the primary Aramaic-Greek bridge.

H1818 — דָּם (dam)

Source: H1818-dam.md

Occurrences: 391

Hebrew blood. 295 OT unique verses. Primary LXX bridge to G129 haima (269 co-occ, PMI 6.2 (score 34.72) — highest single-word PMI score in the tool). Exodus P1 (Exod 7:17-21): kol-hamayim asher ba-yeor nehepku ledam (all the waters in the Nile were turned to blood). The haima vocabulary chain from Exodus P1 flows through: Rev 8:7 (T1: hail fire mingled with haima), Rev 8:8 (T2: sea became haima), Rev 16:3 (B2: sea became haima nekrou), Rev 16:4 (B3: rivers became haima). The blood theme is the most frequently recurring plague vocabulary in the trumpet-bowl sequence.

Semantic categories: Plague 1 blood, LXX bridge to haima, trumpet and bowl judgments, Exodus typology

Key verses: Exod 7:17, Exod 7:20, Exod 7:21, Rev 8:7, Rev 8:8, Rev 16:3, Rev 16:4

Relevance: The H1818 dam → G129 haima chain (PMI 6.2 (score 34.72)) is the strongest single LXX vocabulary bridge in the study. Blood vocabulary recurs across T1, T2, B2, and B3 — Plague 1 is the most extensively echoed of all ten Exodus plagues in Revelation.
