Question

How does Ezekiel serve as the most extensive OT structural template for Revelation? Map the parallel sequence: throne vision (Ezek 1 / Rev 4), scroll eating (Ezek 2:9-3:3 / Rev 10:8-10), temple measuring (Ezek 40-42 / Rev 11:1-2), Gog and Magog (Ezek 38-39 / Rev 20:7-10), river of life (Ezek 47:1-12 / Rev 22:1-2). What does Zechariah contribute? Map: horses and colors (Zech 1:8, 6:1-8 / Rev 6:1-8), lampstand (Zech 4:2 / Rev 1:12, 4:5), olive trees (Zech 4:3,11-14 / Rev 11:4), stone with seven eyes (Zech 3:9 / Rev 5:6), measuring line (Zech 2:1-2 / Rev 11:1). Where does Revelation transform rather than simply repeat its source?

The Throne-Chariot Vision (Full Chapter): Four Living Creatures, Wheels, Firmament, Divine Glory

See sub-entries Ezek 1:4-6, Ezek 1:7-14, Ezek 1:15-21, Ezek 1:22-28 for detailed verse analysis.

Context: Ezekiel 1 — Ezekiel's inaugural merkavah/throne-chariot vision by the river Chebar in Babylon (593 BC). Full chapter overview entry.

Notes: VP187 Strong (8 elements shared with Rev 4). See sub-entries for detailed per-section analysis. Sirach 49:8 confirms merkavah status. Source merger for Rev 4: Ezek 1 + Isa 6 = composite.

Opening Theophany: Stormy Wind, Cloud, Fire; Four Living Creatures Appear

Ezekiel 1:4 And I looked, and, behold, a whirlwind came out of the north, a great cloud, and a fire infolding itself, and a brightness [was] about it, and out of the midst thereof as the colour of amber, out of the midst of the fire. 1:5 Also out of the midst thereof [came] the likeness of four living creatures. And this [was] their appearance; they had the likeness of a man. 1:6 And every one had four faces, and every one had four wings.

Context: Ezekiel 1 — Opening of the merkavah vision. Theophanic storm from the north; four living creatures (chayyot) emerge. The foundational throne-chariot vision (593 BC, by river Chebar).

Notes: H2416 chay root: chayyot (living creatures) — the term identifying these beings before Ezek 10:20 names them kerubim. Four creatures with four faces (v.6) — face-count is the key transformation marker for Rev 4:7 (one face each). LXX renders chayyot as zōa (G2226) — Revelation adopts this term, deliberately bypassing the cherub identity confirmed in Ezek 10.

Creatures' Feet, Hands, Faces; Fire and Lightning Between Them

Ezekiel 1:7 And their feet [were] straight feet; and the sole of their feet [was] like the sole of a calf's foot: and they sparkled like the colour of burnished brass. 1:8 And [they had] the hands of a man under their wings on their four sides; and they four had their faces and their wings. 1:9 Their wings [were] joined one to another; they turned not when they went; they went every one straight forward. 1:10 As for the likeness of their faces, they four had the face of a man, and the face of a lion, on the right side: and they four had the face of an ox on the left side; they four also had the face of an eagle. 1:11 Thus [were] their faces: and their wings [were] stretched upward; two [wings] of every one [were] joined one to another, and two covered their bodies. 1:12 And they went every one straight forward: whither the spirit was to go, they went; [and] they turned not when they went. 1:13 As for the likeness of the living creatures, their appearance [was] like burning coals of fire, [and] like the appearance of lamps: it went up and down among the living creatures; and the fire was bright, and out of the fire went forth lightning. 1:14 And the living creatures ran and returned as the appearance of a flash of lightning.

Context: Ezekiel 1 — Creature morphology: calf-foot, burnished brass, four faces (man/lion/ox/eagle), four wings. Fire and lightning circulate among them.

Notes: 1:10 face order: man/lion (right) / ox (left) / eagle — four faces per creature simultaneously. Rev 4:7 assigns ONE face per creature (lion/calf/man/eagle) — the ox becomes calf (moschos G3448). H6440 paniym (faces) is the morphological key: each creature has a paniym-set of four orientations. 1:13 fire/lightning → Rev 4:5 lightnings from the throne. 4 wings here; Rev 4:8 has 6 wings (source: Isa 6:2, not Ezek 1).

Wheels Full of Eyes Alongside the Creatures

Ezekiel 1:15 Now as I beheld the living creatures, behold one wheel upon the earth by the living creatures, with his four faces. 1:16 The appearance of the wheels and their work [was] like unto the colour of a beryl: and they four had one likeness: and their appearance and their work [was] as it were a wheel in the middle of a wheel. 1:17 When they went, they went upon their four sides: [and] they turned not when they went. 1:18 As for their rings, they were so high that they were dreadful; and their rings [were] full of eyes round about them four. 1:19 And when the living creatures went, the wheels went by them: and when the living creatures were lifted up from the earth, the wheels were lifted up. 1:20 Whithersoever the spirit was to go, they went, thither [was their] spirit to go; and the wheels were lifted up over against them: for the spirit of the living creature [was] in the wheels. 1:21 When those went, [these] went; and when those stood, [these] stood; and when those were lifted up from the earth, the wheels were lifted up over against them: for the spirit of the living creature [was] in the wheels.

Context: Ezekiel 1 — The ophanim/wheels: beryl-colored, wheel-within-a-wheel, rings full of eyes. The wheels move in perfect synchrony with the creatures because the spirit of the creature is in the wheels.

Notes: 1:18 eye-location: the WHEELS (rings/rims) are full of eyes — NOT the creature bodies. Hebrew: gabbot (rims/rings) + mele'ot einayim (full of eyes). This is the critical eye-location difference from Rev 4:6 where eyes are on creature bodies ('full of eyes before and behind'). Revelation RELOCATES eyes from the wheels to the creatures themselves — a deliberate transformation. Hebrew parser: gabbot from gab (G-N-mp-Abs) = rims/curves; mele'ot (Qal Ptcp fp) = being full.

Crystal Firmament Above Creatures; Divine Throne; Rainbow of Glory

Ezekiel 1:22 And the likeness of the firmament upon the heads of the living creature [was] as the colour of the terrible crystal, stretched forth over their heads above. 1:23 And under the firmament [were] their wings straight, the one toward the other: every one had two, which covered on this side, and every one had two, which covered on that side, their bodies. 1:24 And when they went, I heard the noise of their wings, like the noise of great waters, as the voice of the Almighty, the voice of speech, as the noise of an host: when they stood, they let down their wings. 1:25 And there was a voice from the firmament that [was] over their heads, when they stood, [and] had let down their wings. 1:26 And above the firmament that [was] over their heads [was] the likeness of a throne, as the appearance of a sapphire stone: and upon the likeness of the throne [was] the likeness as the appearance of a man above upon it. 1:27 And I saw as the colour of amber, as the appearance of fire round about within it, from the appearance of his loins even upward, and from the appearance of his loins even downward, I saw as it were the appearance of fire, and it had brightness round about. 1:28 As the appearance of the bow that is in the cloud in the day of rain, so [was] the appearance of the brightness round about. This [was] the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the LORD. And when I saw [it], I fell upon my face, and I heard a voice of one that spake.

Context: Ezekiel 1 — The raqia (firmament) above the creatures like terrible crystal; the divine throne above the firmament; the kavod surrounded by rainbow. This is the climax of the merkavah vision.

Notes: 1:22 raqia (firmament/crystal expanse) is ABOVE the creatures. Rev 4:6 has the sea of glass like crystal BEFORE/BELOW the throne — positional transformation: Ezek firmament above → Rev sea below. 1:28 rainbow = Ezek 1:28 → Rev 4:3 rainbow around the throne, Rev 10:1 rainbow on the angel's head. 1:24 'voice like the noise of great waters' → Ezek 43:2 repeats this phrase for the returning kavod; Rev 1:15 applies it to Christ. VP187 Strong (8 elements). Sirach 49:8: 'It was Ezekiel who saw the glorious vision, which was shewed him upon the chariot of the cherubims' — confirms merkavah identity.

The Scroll Written on Front and Back

Ezekiel 2:9 And when I looked, behold, an hand [was] sent unto me; and, lo, a roll of a book [was] therein; 2:10 And he spread it before me; and it [was] written within and without: and [there was] written therein lamentations, and mourning, and woe.

Context: Ezekiel 2 — The scroll-eating commission. Before eating, Ezekiel is shown the scroll. Its content: lamentations, mourning, and woe.

Notes: Scroll morphology identical to Rev 5:1 ('a book written within and on the backside'). Content of Ezek's scroll is pure judgment (lamentations, mourning, woe); Rev 5:1 scroll has seven seals. The two-sided writing is the lexical link. This precedes the eating command in Ezek 3:1-3.

Eat the Scroll — Sweet as Honey

Ezekiel 3:1 Moreover he said unto me, Son of man, eat that thou findest; eat this roll, and go speak unto the house of Israel. 3:2 So I opened my mouth, and he caused me to eat that roll. 3:3 And he said unto me, Son of man, cause thy belly to eat, and fill thy bowels with this roll that I give thee. Then did I eat [it]; and it was in my mouth as honey for sweetness.

Context: Ezekiel 3 — The eating command. Honey sweetness is the ONLY taste experience. No bitterness is mentioned here.

Notes: AN037 Strong — core parallel to Rev 10:9-10. Key finding: Ezekiel's scroll is purely sweet ('as honey for sweetness'). No bitterness in the scroll itself or its eating. The transformation in Rev 10:10 adds intrinsic belly bitterness. Hebrew: debash (honey) — LXX uses glykasmos/meli. G1099 glykys chain confirmed.

Bitterness of Spirit After Eating

Ezekiel 3:14 So the spirit lifted me up, and took me away, and I went in bitterness, in the heat of my spirit; but the hand of the LORD was strong upon me.

Context: Ezekiel 3 — After eating the scroll and receiving his commission, Ezekiel describes his emotional state as he goes to the captives.

Notes: CRITICAL for transformation analysis: bitterness here is (1) EMOTIONAL (bitterness of spirit/ruach), (2) SEQUENTIAL — comes AFTER the eating, not during, (3) describes the PROPHET'S STATE not the scroll's property. Hebrew: mar/chemah (bitterness/heat). Mede (745) correctly identified: 'no reference, or but an obscure one, to bitterness in the belly' in Ezekiel. Rev 10:10 relocates bitterness from the prophet's emotional aftermath INTO the physical act of digestion — a transformation from external emotion to intrinsic scroll property.

Mark on Foreheads Before Judgment

Ezekiel 9:4 And the LORD said unto him, Go through the midst of the city, through the midst of Jerusalem, and set a mark upon the foreheads of the men that sigh and that cry for all the abominations that be done in the midst thereof.

Context: Ezekiel 9 — Vision of judgment on Jerusalem. Before the destroying angels act, a man in linen marks the faithful on their foreheads. Mark is 'tav' (last Hebrew letter, paleo-Hebrew = X/cross shape).

Notes: VP188 Strong (5 elements: forehead mark/seal, before judgment, protective function, destroying agents delayed, judgment follows) → Rev 7:3 parallel. Pattern: mark/seal → protective function → judgment follows. Tav in paleo-Hebrew = X or cross shape. Continuous Niphal participles for 'sighing and crying' (ha-ne'enakim ve-ha-ne'enaqim) indicate ongoing grief, not one-time act.

Cherubim Revisited: Wheels, Eyes, and Identity Confirmed (Full Passage)

See sub-entries Ezek 10:9-17 and Ezek 10:20-22 for detailed verse analysis.

Context: Ezekiel 10 — Second throne-chariot vision. Cherub identity confirmed. Full passage overview entry.

Notes: H3742 kerub identity: 10:20 'I knew that they were the cherubims.' LXX renders H3742 as cheroubim (G5502), NOT zōon (G2226). Rev 4:6 uses zōon — deliberate terminological shift. See sub-entries for detail.

Cherubim Revisited: Wheels, Eyes on Whole Body, Cherub Morphology Confirmed

Ezekiel 10:9 And when I looked, behold the four wheels by the cherubims, one wheel by one cherub, and another wheel by another cherub: and the appearance of the wheels [was] as the colour of a beryl stone. 10:10 And [as for] their appearances, they four had one likeness, as if a wheel had been in the midst of a wheel. 10:11 When they went, they went upon their four sides; they turned not as they went, but to the place whither the head looked they followed it; they turned not as they went. 10:12 And their whole body, and their backs, and their hands, and their wings, and the wheels, [were] full of eyes round about, [even] the wheels that they four had. 10:13 As for the wheels, it was cried unto them in my hearing, O wheel. 10:14 And every one had four faces: the first face [was] the face of a cherub, and the second face [was] the face of a man, and the third the face of a lion, and the fourth the face of an eagle. 10:15 And the cherubims were lifted up. This [is] the living creature that I saw by the river of Chebar. 10:16 And when the cherubims went, the wheels went by them: and when the cherubims lifted up their wings to mount up from the earth, the same wheels also turned not from beside them. 10:17 When they stood, [these] stood; and when they were lifted up, [these] lifted up themselves [also]: for the spirit of the living creature [was] in them.

Context: Ezekiel 10 — Second merkavah vision. 10:12 eyes on the whole body and wheels — eyes are dispersed through the entire form. 10:14 face order differs from Ezek 1: cherub replaces ox.

Notes: 10:12 'whole body, backs, hands, wings, and wheels full of eyes' — eye coverage expanded to the entire body, not just the wheel rims of Ezek 1:18. 10:14 face order: cherub/man/lion/eagle — OX (Ezek 1:10) replaced by CHERUB. This face-order shift within Ezekiel itself shows the vision is not mechanically repeated. H3742 kerub named explicitly here. LXX: H3742 → cheroubim (G5502), NOT zōon (G2226) — Rev 4:6 uses zōon, departing from LXX's cherub-term.

Explicit Identification: Ezek 10 Creatures Are the Same as Ezek 1 Cherubim

Ezekiel 10:20 This [is] the living creature that I saw under the God of Israel by the river of Chebar; and I knew that they [were] the cherubims. 10:21 Every one had four faces apiece, and every one four wings; and the likeness of the hands of a man [was] under their wings. 10:22 And the likeness of their faces [was] the same faces which I saw by the river of Chebar, their appearances and themselves: they went every one straight forward.

Context: Ezekiel 10 — Ezekiel's own interpretive statement confirming the identity of the Ezek 1 creatures as kerubim. The two visions are explicitly linked.

Notes: 10:20 'I knew that they were the cherubims' — explicit retroactive identification. The chayyot (living creatures) of Ezek 1 = the kerubim of Ezek 10. H3742 kerub = the same beings. Revelation adopts the chayyot/zōon terminology rather than kerubim — a deliberate choice to avoid anchoring the heavenly beings to the earthly ark-cherub image. 10:21 four faces, four wings again — confirming the morphological data of Ezek 1.

Fourfold Judgment Formula

Ezekiel 14:21 For thus saith the Lord GOD; How much more when I send my four sore judgments upon Jerusalem, the sword, and the famine, and the noisome beast, and the pestilence, to cut off from it man and beast?

Context: Ezekiel 14 — God's fourfold judgment formula: sword, famine, beast, pestilence. Primary source for Rev 6:8 four horsemen death toll.

Notes: VP074 Strong — source for Rev 6:8 death toll (kill with sword, hunger, death, beasts of the earth). The four horsemen's destruction mechanism draws on Ezek 14:21 more directly than on Zechariah. Judgment content of Rev 6:8 = Ezekiel, not Zechariah.

Guardian Cherub in Eden — Figurative Use of Cherub Identity

Ezekiel 28:14 Thou [art] the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee [so]: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire. 28:15 Thou [wast] perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee. 28:16 By the multitude of thy merchandise they have filled the midst of thee with violence, and thou hast sinned: therefore I will cast thee as profane out of the mountain of God: and I will destroy thee, O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire.

Context: Ezekiel 28 — The lament over the king of Tyre, understood as figurative language for the covering cherub in Eden. The 'guardian/covering cherub' (kerub hammisach) in the garden of God, amid the stones of fire.

Notes: FIGURATIVE use of H3742 kerub — the Nave's Cherubim entry lists Ezek 28:14-16 under 'Figurative.' The covering/anointed cherub is cast from Eden for iniquity (v.15-16). This connects to the stones of fire imagery in Ezek 1 (fire/lightning among the creatures). The Cherubim Nave's topic confirms this figurative category alongside the symbolic use in Ezek 1 and 10. Background context: cherub identity as guardian/covering figure in sacred space, which explains why Revelation avoids the cherub term and uses zōon instead — the cherub term carries too much freight from Ezek 28.

Covenant of Peace: Sanctuary in Their Midst

Ezekiel 37:26 Moreover I will make a covenant of peace with them; it shall be an everlasting covenant with them: and I will place them, and multiply them, and will set my sanctuary in the midst of them for evermore. 37:27 My tabernacle also shall be with them: yea, I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

Context: Ezekiel 37 — The valley of dry bones and restoration. God promises his tabernacle/sanctuary will be with Israel permanently.

Notes: LXX renders mishkan (tabernacle) as skene (G4633). Nearly verbatim correspondence with Rev 21:3 ('the tabernacle [skene] of God is with men'). AN098 Probable. The skene arc: Ezek 37:27 → Rev 21:3 → fulfillment-by-transcendence (no physical temple; God himself IS the temple, Rev 21:22).

Gog of the Land of Magog — Named Northern Coalition

Ezekiel 38:2 Son of man, set thy face against Gog, the land of Magog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal, and prophesy against him, 38:3 And say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I [am] against thee, O Gog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal: 38:4 And I will turn thee back, and put hooks into thy jaws, and I will bring thee forth, and all thine army, horses and horsemen, all of them clothed with all sorts [of armour, even] a great company [with] bucklers and shields, all of them handling swords: 38:5 Persia, Ethiopia, and Libya with them; all of them with shield and helmet: 38:6 Gomer, and all his bands; the house of Togarmah of the north quarters, and all his bands: [and] many people with thee.

Context: Ezekiel 38 — The oracle against Gog. Named coalition of nations: Meshech, Tubal, Persia, Ethiopia, Libya, Gomer, Togarmah.

Notes: Highly specific named coalition vs. Rev 20:8 universalization. Gog = individual ruler; Magog = territory. Compare Rev 20:8: 'Gog and Magog' become a paired collective name for nations of the four corners of the earth. Geographic specificity (named nations, north) → cosmic universality (four quarters of the earth).

From the North with Great Company

Ezekiel 38:15 And thou shalt come from thy place out of the north parts, thou, and many people with thee, all of them riding upon horses, a great company, and a mighty army: 38:16 And thou shalt come up against my people of Israel, as a cloud to cover the land; it shall be in the latter days, and I will bring thee against my land, that the heathen may know me, when I shall be sanctified in thee, O Gog, before their eyes.

Context: Ezekiel 38 — Directional specificity: from the north. Contrast with Rev 20:8 'four corners of the earth.'

Notes: Directional specificity: north parts (tsaphon). Rev 20:8 replaces this with 'four quarters/corners of the earth' — full universalization. 'Latter days' connection: both texts are eschatological but operate at different scales.

Fire and Brimstone as Defeat Mechanism

Ezekiel 38:22 And I will plead against him with pestilence and with blood; and I will rain upon him, and upon his bands, and upon the many people that [are] with him, an overflowing rain, and great hailstones, fire, and brimstone. 38:23 Thus will I magnify myself, and sanctify myself; and I will be known in the eyes of many nations, and they shall know that I [am] the LORD.

Context: Ezekiel 38 — Fire and brimstone as God's defeat mechanism. Preserved in Rev 20:9.

Notes: Fire element preserved: Ezek 38:22 'fire and brimstone' → Rev 20:9 'fire came down from God out of heaven.' Ezek 39:6 'I will send a fire on Magog' adds specificity. Matthew Henry correctly noted that Rev 20:9 borrows the fire-from-God mechanism.

Fire on Magog — Defeat and Death

Ezekiel 39:1 Therefore, thou son of man, prophesy against Gog, and say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I [am] against thee, O Gog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal: 39:2 And I will turn thee back, and leave but the sixth part of thee, and will cause thee to come up from the north parts, and will bring thee upon the mountains of Israel: 39:3 And I will smite thy bow out of thy left hand, and will cause thine arrows to fall out of thy right hand. 39:4 Thou shalt fall upon the mountains of Israel, thou, and all thy bands, and the people that [is] with thee: I will give thee unto the ravenous birds of every sort, and [to] the beasts of the field to be devoured. 39:5 Thou shalt fall upon the open field: for I have spoken [it], saith the Lord GOD. 39:6 And I will send a fire on Magog, and among them that dwell carelessly in the isles: and they shall know that I [am] the LORD.

Context: Ezekiel 39 — The defeat oracle. Fire on Magog (39:6) directly paralleled in Rev 20:9. Birds devour fallen (39:4) — this element appears in Rev 19:17-18 BEFORE the millennium.

Notes: 39:4 bird-feast element: 'I will give thee unto the ravenous birds' → this appears in Rev 19:17-18, not Rev 20. Revelation SPLITS the Gog-Magog material: bird feast (Ezek 39:17-20) → Rev 19:17-18 (pre-millennium); fire-from-God defeat + Gog/Magog name (Ezek 38-39) → Rev 20:7-10 (post-millennium). This deliberate split is the most structurally significant finding.

Bird Feast on the Fallen — Sacrificial Supper

Ezekiel 39:17 And, thou son of man, thus saith the Lord GOD; Speak unto every feathered fowl, and to every beast of the field, Assemble yourselves, and come; gather yourselves on every side to my sacrifice that I do sacrifice for you, [even] a great sacrifice upon the mountains of Israel, that ye may eat flesh, and drink blood. 39:18 Ye shall eat the flesh of the mighty, and drink the blood of the princes of the earth, of rams, of lambs, and of goats, of bullocks, all of them fatlings of Bashan. 39:19 And ye shall eat fat till ye be full, and drink blood till ye be drunken, of my sacrifice which I have sacrificed for you. 39:20 Thus ye shall be filled at my table with horses and chariots, with mighty men, and with all men of war, saith the Lord GOD.

Context: Ezekiel 39 — Bird-feast oracle. Birds summoned to eat flesh of the fallen. This element appears in Revelation BEFORE the Gog-Magog battle (Rev 19:17-18).

Notes: VP166 Strong — connects to Rev 19:17-18. The bird-feast vocabulary: 'feathered fowl,' 'eat flesh,' 'flesh of the mighty / princes' → Rev 19:17-18 'eat the flesh of kings, captains, mighty men.' Revelation presents this element PRE-millennium while Gog-Magog names appear POST-millennium. Riddlebarger's same-event reading is undermined by this split: if the bird-feast is Ezek 39:17-20 and it appears in Rev 19, then Ezek 38-39 material is distributed across TWO separate Revelation scenes.

Measuring Rod and East Gate Survey (Full Passage Overview)

See sub-entries Ezek 40:3-5 and Ezek 40:6-16 for detailed verse analysis.

Context: Ezekiel 40 — Full passage overview for the measuring reed introduction and east gate measurement. The outer court is measured in full — not excluded.

Notes: AN092 Strong (Ezek 40 → Rev 11:1). H7070 qaneh → G2563 kalamos (PMI 9.09). KEY CONTRAST: Ezek 40 measures the outer court; Rev 11:2 excludes it. See sub-entries for per-section detail.

Man with Measuring Rod (Qaneh/Kalamos) — Primary OT Source for Rev 11:1

Ezekiel 40:3 And he brought me thither, and, behold, [there was] a man, whose appearance [was] like the appearance of brass, with a line of flax in his hand, and a measuring reed; and he stood in the gate. 40:4 And the man said unto me, Son of man, behold with thine eyes, and hear with thine ears, and set thine heart upon all that I shall shew thee; for to the intent that I might shew [them] unto thee [art] thou brought hither: declare all that thou seest to the house of Israel. 40:5 And behold a wall on the outside of the house round about, and in the man's hand a measuring reed of six cubits [long] by the cubit and an hand breadth: so he measured the breadth of the building, one reed; and the height, one reed.

Context: Ezekiel 40 — Introduction of the angelic surveyor with a measuring reed (qaneh hammiddah) of six cubits. The primary OT source for Rev 11:1's 'reed like a rod' (kalamos homoios rabdo).

Notes: AN092 Strong — lexical chain: H7070 qaneh → LXX G2563 kalamos (PMI 9.09, 16 co-occurrences) → Rev 11:1 kalamos homoios rabdo. SAME Greek word confirmed. The measuring reed here is a functional instrument used by an angelic figure. Contrast: Zech 2:1 uses a measuring LINE (chevel/cord), not a rod — confirming Ezek 40 is the primary lexical source for Rev 11:1, not Zechariah.

Detailed Measurement of East Gate and Outer Court — Everything Measured

Ezekiel 40:6 Then came he unto the gate which looketh toward the east, and went up the stairs thereof, and measured the threshold of the gate, [which was] one reed broad; and the other threshold [of the gate, which was] one reed broad. 40:7 And [every] little chamber [was] one reed long, and one reed broad; and between the little chambers [were] five cubits; and the threshold of the gate by the porch of the gate within [was] one reed. 40:8 He measured also the porch of the gate within, one reed. 40:9 Then measured he the porch of the gate, eight cubits; and the posts thereof, two cubits; and the porch of the gate [was] inward. 40:10 And the little chambers of the gate eastward [were] three on this side, and three on that side; they three [were] of one measure: and the posts had one measure on this side and on that side. 40:11 And he measured the breadth of the entry of the gate, ten cubits; [and] the length of the gate, thirteen cubits. 40:12 The space also before the little chambers [was] one cubit [on this side], and the space [was] one cubit on that side: and the little chambers [were] six cubits on this side, and six cubits on that side. 40:13 He measured then the gate from the roof of [one] little chamber to the roof of another: the breadth [was] five and twenty cubits, door against door. 40:14 He made also posts of threescore cubits, even unto the post of the court round about the gate. 40:15 And from the face of the gate of the entrance unto the face of the porch of the inner gate [were] fifty cubits. 40:16 And [there were] narrow windows to the little chambers, and to their posts within the gate round about, and likewise to the arches: and windows [were] round about inward: and upon [each] post [were] palm trees.

Context: Ezekiel 40 — The east gate and outer court measured in exhaustive detail. The outer court (aule) is fully surveyed — it is NOT excluded.

Notes: KEY CONTRAST with Rev 11:2: Ezekiel measures the outer court extensively; Rev 11:2 explicitly EXCLUDES the outer court ('the court which is without the temple leave out, and measure it not; for it is given unto the Gentiles'). This outer-court exclusion is the critical transformation. Ezekiel's comprehensive measurement (inner + outer + gates) becomes theologically selective in Revelation: naos + altar + worshippers protected; aule given to Gentiles for 42-month trampling.

Glory of the LORD Returns from the East (Full Passage)

Ezekiel 43:1 Afterward he brought me to the gate, [even] the gate that looketh toward the east: 43:2 And, behold, the glory of the God of Israel came from the way of the east: and his voice [was] like a noise of many waters: and the earth shined with his glory. 43:3 And [it was] according to the appearance of the vision which I saw, [even] according to the vision that I saw when I came to destroy the city: and the visions [were] like the vision that I saw by the river Chebar; and I fell upon my face. 43:4 And the glory of the LORD came into the house by the way of the gate whose prospect [is] toward the east. 43:5 So the spirit took me up, and brought me into the inner court; and, behold, the glory of the LORD filled the house.

Context: Ezekiel 43 — The glory of the LORD returns to the restored temple from the east. Voice like many waters (v.2). The kavod fills the house (v.5). Ezekiel identifies this vision with the Chebar vision (v.3).

Notes: VP191 Strong (5 elements: glory/doxa, fills space, as light, divine dwelling, earth shines) → Rev 21:3,11,23. 43:2 'voice like a noise of many waters' → Rev 1:15 Christ's voice as sound of many waters. 43:5 'glory of the LORD filled the house' → Rev 21:23 glory of God lights the New Jerusalem. See sub-entry Ezek 43:2 for focused verse analysis.

His Voice Like the Noise of Many Waters — Same Language Applied to Christ

Ezekiel 43:2 And, behold, the glory of the God of Israel came from the way of the east: and his voice [was] like a noise of many waters: and the earth shined with his glory.

Context: Ezekiel 43 — The returning kavod (glory of the LORD) speaks with a voice 'like a noise of many waters' (qol hammayim rabbim). This same phrase is applied to the glorified Christ in Rev 1:15.

Notes: VP191 Strong: 'his voice like a noise of many waters' (qol hammayim rabbim) → Rev 1:15 'his voice as the sound of many waters' (phōnē hydatōn pollōn). The returning kavod's vocal description is transferred to Christ's voice in the inaugural vision. LXX renders qol hammayim as phōnē hydatōn. This verbal chain (kavod-voice = Christ's voice) is one of the clearest Christological applications of Ezekiel's throne-vision vocabulary. Also: 'the earth shined with his glory' → Rev 21:11,23 glory-light of New Jerusalem.

River from the Sanctuary — Healing Waters and Fruitful Trees (Full Passage)

See sub-entries Ezek 47:1-9 and Ezek 47:12 for detailed verse analysis.

Context: Ezekiel 47 — River flowing from sanctuary threshold eastward. Full passage overview entry. AN094 Strong parallel with Rev 22:1-2.

Notes: THREE-PART TRANSFORMATION: (a) source: temple threshold → throne (Rev 22:1); (b) trees: many trees → tree of life (Gen 2:9 merger); (c) healing: leaf for medicine → healing of the nations. H5104 nahar → G4215 potamos (PMI 7.03). See sub-entries for detail.

River Flows from Under Sanctuary Threshold — Source Is the Temple

Ezekiel 47:1 Afterward he brought me again unto the door of the house; and, behold, waters issued out from under the threshold of the house eastward: for the forefront of the house [stood toward] the east, and the waters came down from under from the right side of the house, at the south [side] of the altar. 47:2 Then brought he me out of the way of the gate northward, and led me about the way without unto the utter gate by the way that looketh eastward; and, behold, there ran out waters on the right side. 47:3 And when the man that had the line in his hand went forth eastward, he measured a thousand cubits, and he brought me through the waters; the waters [were] to the ancles. 47:4 Again he measured a thousand, and brought me through the waters; the waters [were] to the knees. Again he measured a thousand, and brought me through; the waters [were] to the loins. 47:5 Afterward he measured a thousand; [and it was] a river that I could not pass over: for the waters were risen, waters to swim in, a river that could not be passed over. 47:6 And he said unto me, Son of man, hast thou seen [this]? Then he brought me, and caused me to return to the brink of the river. 47:7 Now when I had returned, behold, at the bank of the river [were] very many trees on the one side and on the other. 47:8 Then said he unto me, These waters issue out toward the east country, and go down into the desert, and go into the sea: [which being] brought forth into the sea, the waters shall be healed. 47:9 And it shall come to pass, [that] every thing that liveth, which moveth, whithersoever the rivers shall come, shall live: and there shall be a very great multitude of fish, because these waters shall come thither: for they shall be healed; and every thing shall live whither the river cometh.

Context: Ezekiel 47 — The miraculous river flowing from the temple threshold eastward, deepening progressively (ankle→knee→loins→swimming depth). Everything the river touches lives. Source: the TEMPLE THRESHOLD (miphtan H4670).

Notes: AN094 Strong — core parallel with Rev 22:1-2. SOURCE TRANSFORMATION: Ezek 47:1 miphtan (threshold of the house) → Rev 22:1 'proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb.' The temple-source becomes the throne-source. Hebrew nahar (H5104) → LXX potamos (G4215, 101 co-occurrences, PMI 7.03) → Rev 22:1 potamos — SAME Greek word. 47:9 'every thing shall live whither the river cometh' → Rev 22:1 'water of life.' Deepening progression (ankle to swimming depth) shows escalating divine life, absent from Rev 22 which presents the final state only. Moyise 'radical reinterpretation': Rev 21:22 states no temple, while borrowing the temple-river imagery.

Trees on Both Banks Bearing Fruit Monthly; Leaves for Medicine

Ezekiel 47:12 And by the river upon the bank thereof, on this side and on that side, shall grow all trees for meat, whose leaf shall not fade, neither shall the fruit thereof be consumed: it shall bring forth new fruit according to his months, because their waters they issued out of the sanctuary: and the fruit thereof shall be for meat, and the leaf thereof for medicine.

Context: Ezekiel 47 — The trees on both riverbanks produce food monthly and their leaves provide medicine. The source of the river is explicitly 'out of the sanctuary.'

Notes: THREE-PART TRANSFORMATION completed here: (a) SOURCE: 'issued out of the sanctuary' (Ezek 47:12) → Rev 22:1 'throne of God and of the Lamb'; (b) TREES: 'all trees for meat' (many trees, various kinds) → Rev 22:2 'tree of life' (singular, from Gen 2:9 — source merger); (c) HEALING: 'leaf for medicine' (Hebrew: litrufah, for healing/medicine) → Rev 22:2 'healing of the nations' — medicinal/individual → national/eschatological scope. Monthly fruit: Rev 22:2 'yielded her fruit every month' = verbatim adoption. The sanctuary-source language (mimmiqdashe, 'from the sanctuary') confirms the temple-to-throne transformation in Rev 22:1.

YHWH Shammah: The LORD Is There

Ezekiel 48:35 [It was] round about eighteen thousand [measures]: and the name of the city from [that] day [shall be], The LORD [is] there.

Context: Ezekiel 48 — The final verse of the entire book. The new city's name: YHWH Shammah ('the LORD is there'). The final word of Ezekiel.

Notes: AN098 Probable → Rev 21:3 ('God himself shall be with them'). YHWH Shammah as city-name corresponds to 'the tabernacle of God is with men' (Rev 21:3). The LXX skene chain: Ezek 37:27 mishkan → skene → Rev 21:3 skene. Fulfillment-by-transcendence: Ezek names a physical city; Rev 21 transcends to God's presence as the city's identity (Rev 21:22 no temple, God IS the temple).

Seraph with Coal and Commission — Prophetic Commissioning Pattern Parallel to Rev 10

Isaiah 6:6 Then flew one of the seraphims unto me, having a live coal in his hand, [which] he had taken with the tongs from off the altar: 6:7 And he laid [it] upon my mouth, and said, Lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin purged. 6:8 Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here [am] I; send me.

Context: Isaiah 6 — The seraph cleanses Isaiah's lips with a live coal from the altar, removing iniquity; then the divine commission follows. This commissioning pattern parallels the scroll-eating commission of Ezek 2-3 and Rev 10.

Notes: Prophetic commissioning pattern: (1) encounter with divine presence, (2) purification/transformation, (3) commission to speak. Isa 6:6-8 = coal on lips → 'iniquity taken away' → 'Whom shall I send?' Ezek 3:1-3 = eat the scroll → 'go speak unto the house of Israel.' Rev 10:9-11 = eat the little book (sweet/bitter) → 'Thou must prophesy again.' All three follow the same commission structure. The coal-on-lips (purification before speaking) differs from the scroll-eating (internalization of the word), but the structural sequence is shared. Isa 6 supplies the seraphim/six-wings element for Rev 4:8; these verses supply the commissioning-pattern parallel for the scroll-eating sequence.

Seraphim with Six Wings and the Trisagion

Isaiah 6:1 In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple. 6:2 Above it stood the seraphims: each one had six wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly. 6:3 And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, [is] the LORD of hosts: the whole earth [is] full of his glory.

Context: Isaiah 6 — Isaiah's throne vision. The seraphim have SIX wings. The trisagion 'Holy, holy, holy' is present. Source for Rev 4:8 six wings and trisagion — NOT from Ezekiel.

Notes: SP107 OT source merger (Moderate): Rev 4 composites Ezek 1 + Isa 6. The six wings of Rev 4:8 come from Isa 6:2, not Ezek 1:6 (four wings). The trisagion of Rev 4:8 comes from Isa 6:3, absent from Ezek 1. Ezekiel contributes: four creatures, four faces, eye imagery, crystal firmament, rainbow. Isaiah contributes: six wings, trisagion. Rev 4 is a conscious merger of the two visions.

Ezekiel Saw the Glorious Vision upon the Chariot of the Cherubims

Sirach 49:8 It was Ezekiel who saw the glorious vision, which was shewed him upon the chariot of the cherubims.

Context: Sirach (Ecclesiasticus) 49 — The Praise of the Fathers. Ben Sira's second-century BC testimony to Ezekiel's merkavah vision. Confirms the chariot-of-cherubim reading of Ezek 1 was established in Second Temple Judaism.

Notes: Sirach 49:8 is the earliest explicit identification of Ezek 1 as 'the chariot of the cherubims' (Greek: harma cheroubim). Ben Sira (c. 180 BC) treats the Ezek 1 vision as a well-known theological event worthy of honor. This confirms: (1) Ezek 1 was read as a cherub-chariot (merkavah) vision by the second century BC; (2) the creatures of Ezek 1 were understood as cherubim before Rev 10:20 makes this explicit. The LXX text of Sirach preserves this designation. This apocryphal testimony establishes the pre-Revelation Jewish reception of Ezekiel's throne vision. Apocrypha corpus, not in KJV canon; text from 00-references.md.

Red, Speckled, and White Horses Patrolling the Earth

Zechariah 1:8 I saw by night, and behold a man riding upon a red horse, and he stood among the myrtle trees that [were] in the bottom; and behind him [were there] red horses, speckled, and white. 1:9 Then said I, O my lord, what [are] these? And the angel that talked with me said unto me, I will shew thee what these [be]. 1:10 And the man that stood among the myrtle trees answered and said, These [are they] whom the LORD hath sent to walk to and fro through the earth. 1:11 And they answered the angel of the LORD that stood among the myrtle trees, and said, We have walked to and fro through the earth, and, behold, all the earth sitteth still, and is at rest.

Context: Zechariah 1 — First horse vision. Three colors: red, speckled (sorrel), white. Function: patrol the earth and report. They find the earth at rest.

Notes: AN025 Probable for Zech 1:8 → Rev 6. Colors: red and white appear in both; speckled/sorrel has no direct Rev counterpart. Function shift: patrol-and-report → judgment-execution. Order in Zech 1:8: red first, white last. Rev 6: white first, red second — order reversal. Fourth horse (pale/chloros) is entirely absent from Zechariah.

Man with Measuring Line to Measure Jerusalem

Zechariah 2:1 I lifted up mine eyes again, and looked, and behold a man with a measuring line in his hand. 2:2 Then said I, Whither goest thou? And he said unto me, To measure Jerusalem, to see what [is] the breadth thereof, and what [is] the length thereof.

Context: Zechariah 2 — Man with a measuring line to measure Jerusalem. Secondary OT source for Rev 11:1 measuring.

Notes: AN093 Probable — weaker parallel than Ezek 40 (AN092 Strong). Differences: Zech uses a measuring LINE (chevel, cord/rope), not a measuring ROD (qaneh). Rev 11:1 uses kalamos (reed/rod), aligning lexically with Ezek 40:3's qaneh → kalamos chain, not Zech 2:1. Zech 2 parallel is thematic/conceptual only; Ezek 40 is the lexical source.

Stone with Seven Eyes — Messianic Atonement

Zechariah 3:8 Hear now, O Joshua the high priest, thou, and thy fellows that sit before thee: for they [are] men wondered at: for, behold, I will bring forth my servant the BRANCH. 3:9 For behold the stone that I have laid before Joshua; upon one stone [shall be] seven eyes: behold, I will engrave the graving thereof, saith the LORD of hosts, and I will remove the iniquity of that land in one day.

Context: Zechariah 3 — Priestly courtroom scene. Joshua the high priest acquitted. A stone with seven eyes introduced in a context of atonement ('remove iniquity in one day'). The BRANCH (tsemach) promised.

Notes: Source for Rev 5:6 seven-eyed Lamb. LXX: ophthalmoi hepta (G3788 x7). Transformation: STONE with seven eyes → LAMB as it had been slain with seven eyes. Context changes: priestly courtroom (Zech 3) → heavenly throne room (Rev 5). Function SAME: divine omniscience, messianic atonement. 'Remove iniquity in one day' (Zech 3:9) → Lamb who was slain (Rev 5:6). Atonement context preserved.

Joshua the High Priest — Priestly Courtroom; Filthy Garments Exchanged

Zechariah 3:1 And he shewed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the LORD, and Satan standing at his right hand to resist him. 3:2 And the LORD said unto Satan, The LORD rebuke thee, O Satan; even the LORD that hath chosen Jerusalem rebuke thee: [is] not this a brand plucked out of the fire? 3:3 Now Joshua was clothed with filthy garments, and stood before the angel. 3:4 And he answered and spake unto those that stood before him, saying, Take away the filthy garments from him. And unto him he said, Behold, I have caused thine iniquity to pass from thee, and I will clothe thee with change of raiment. 3:5 And I said, Let them set a fair mitre upon his head. So they set a fair mitre upon his head, and clothed him with garments. And the angel of the LORD stood by.

Context: Zechariah 3 — The priestly courtroom scene. Joshua the high priest accused by Satan; LORD rebukes Satan; iniquity is removed; clean garments given. Context for the stone with seven eyes (Zech 3:9) and the atonement theme.

Notes: Priestly courtroom: Satan accuses Joshua (filthy garments = sinful condition), LORD acquits. Atonement vocabulary: 'I have caused thine iniquity to pass from thee' (v.4) — same Day of Atonement resonance as Zech 3:9 'remove iniquity in one day.' The clean garments given to Joshua = the righteous robes of Rev 3:4-5, 7:14. This courtroom context makes the transition to the slain Lamb (Rev 5:6 — the one who accomplishes iniquity removal) structurally coherent. Background for the seven-eyed stone of 3:9.

Joshua the High Priest — Priestly Courtroom

3:6 And the angel of the LORD protested unto Joshua, saying, 3:7 Thus saith the LORD of hosts; If thou wilt walk in my ways, and if thou wilt keep my charge, then thou shalt also judge my house, and shalt also keep my courts, and I will give thee places to walk among these that stand by.

Context: Zechariah 3 — Context for the stone with seven eyes (3:9). The priestly courtroom: Satan accuses, LORD acquits Joshua. Atonement ('remove iniquity') sets the stage for the messianic stone.

Notes: Background context for Zech 3:9 stone and the seven-eyes chain. The Day of Atonement resonance: priestly cleansing, iniquity removal, 'in one day.' This atonement context is what makes the transition to the slain Lamb (Rev 5:6) structurally coherent.

Golden Lampstand, Seven Lamps, Two Olive Trees, Two Anointed Ones (Full Chapter)

See sub-entries Zech 4:1-7 and Zech 4:10-14 for detailed verse analysis.

Context: Zechariah 4 — Full lampstand vision overview. Lampstand + olive trees; seven lamps = eyes of the LORD = Spirit; two olive trees = two anointed ones. Full chapter overview entry.

Notes: ZECHARIAH VERBAL CHAIN: seven lamps (4:2) = eyes of the LORD (4:10) = 'my Spirit' (4:6). Rev appropriates this chain. AN038 Explicit (Zech 4:14 → Rev 11:4). LXX: H2132 zayith → G1636 elaia (PMI 9.24). In Zechariah lampstand and olive trees are SEPARATE; Rev 11:4 merges them. See sub-entries for detail.

Golden Lampstand with Seven Lamps and Two Olive Trees — Vision of the Spirit

Zechariah 4:1 And the angel that talked with me came again, and waked me, as a man that is wakened out of his sleep, 4:2 And said unto me, What seest thou? And I said, I have looked, and behold a candlestick all [of] gold, with a bowl upon the top of it, and his seven lamps thereon, and seven pipes to the seven lamps, which [are] upon the top thereof: 4:3 And two olive trees by it, one upon the right [side] of the bowl, and the other upon the left [side] thereof. 4:4 So I answered and spake to the angel that talked with me, saying, What [are] these, my lord? 4:5 Then the angel that talked with me answered and said unto me, Knowest thou not what these [be]? And I said, No, my lord. 4:6 Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This [is] the word of the LORD unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts. 4:7 Who [art] thou, O great mountain? before Zerubbabel [thou shalt become] a plain: and he shall bring forth the headstone [thereof with] shoutings, [crying], Grace, grace unto it.

Context: Zechariah 4 — The lampstand vision: one golden lampstand (menorah) with a bowl, seven lamps, and two olive trees flanking. The explanatory word: 'Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit' — the seven lamps connect to the Spirit.

Notes: VERBAL CHAIN beginning: seven lamps (4:2) → 'my Spirit' (4:6) — the lamps symbolize the Spirit's work. Rev 4:5 completes the chain: 'seven lamps of fire burning before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God.' Rev 5:6 extends it further: Lamb's seven eyes = seven Spirits sent into all the earth (from Zech 4:10's 'eyes of the LORD run to and fro'). LXX lychnia (G3087) = Hebrew menorah. H7070 qaneh underlies the menorah arms (Exod 25) — the same Hebrew word as the measuring rod. In Zechariah, the lampstand and olive trees are SEPARATE objects. This separation is the key to identifying Rev 11:4's merger.

Seven Eyes of the LORD Running Through the Earth; Two Anointed Ones

Zechariah 4:10 For who hath despised the day of small things? for they shall rejoice, and shall see the plummet in the hand of Zerubbabel [with] those seven; they [are] the eyes of the LORD, which run to and fro through the whole earth. 4:11 Then answered I, and said unto him, What [are] these two olive trees upon the right [side] of the candlestick and upon the left [side] thereof? 4:12 And I answered again, and said unto him, What [be these] two olive branches which through the two golden pipes empty the golden [oil] out of themselves? 4:13 And he answered me and said, Knowest thou not what these [be]? And I said, No, my lord. 4:14 Then said he, These [are] the two anointed ones, that stand by the Lord of the whole earth.

Context: Zechariah 4 — The seven lamps are decoded as 'the eyes of the LORD which run to and fro through the whole earth' (4:10). The two olive trees are decoded as 'the two anointed ones' (4:14) — historically Joshua the priest and Zerubbabel the governor.

Notes: 4:10 decoder: seven lamps = eyes of the LORD running to and fro through the whole earth. Rev 5:6 uses this same decoder: Lamb's seven eyes = seven Spirits sent into all the earth. AN038 Explicit. 4:14 two anointed ones (bene hayyitshar, 'sons of oil') = olive trees. LXX: elaiai (G1636) — SAME word as Rev 11:4 hai duo elaiai. In Zechariah they are SEPARATE from the lampstand; Rev 11:4 merges them: witnesses = BOTH olive trees AND lampstands simultaneously. TM214 constructio ad sensum: hestōtes (Perf Act Ptcp NPM — masculine) with feminine subjects elaiai/lychniai — witnesses are PERSONS (masculine participle controls despite feminine noun subjects). This grammatical anomaly confirms the witnesses are persons identified with these symbols, not literal objects.

Flying Scroll with Curse

Zechariah 5:1 Then I turned, and lifted up mine eyes, and looked, and behold a flying roll. 5:2 And he said unto me, What seest thou? And I answered, I see a flying roll; the length thereof [is] twenty cubits, and the breadth thereof ten cubits. 5:3 Then said he unto me, This [is] the curse that goeth forth over the face of the whole earth: for every one that stealeth shall be cut off [as] on this side according to it; and every one that sweareth shall be cut off [as] on that side according to it. 5:4 I will bring it forth, saith the LORD of hosts, and it shall enter into the house of the thief, and into the house of him that sweareth falsely by my name: and it shall remain in the midst of his house, and shall consume it with the timber thereof and the stones thereof.

Context: Zechariah 5 — Flying scroll (20 cubits × 10 cubits) carrying a written curse. Goes forth over the whole earth against specific sins.

Notes: WEAK parallel with Rev 10. Key differences: Zech 5 scroll FLIES autonomously; Rev 10:2 scroll is HELD by an angel (not flying). Zech 5 scroll carries written curse; Rev 10:9-10 scroll is sweet-then-bitter (draws from Ezek 3, not Zech 5). Greek: Hebrew megillah/LXX bibliou petomenou vs. Rev 10:2 biblaridion (diminutive) — different words. Assessment: Zech 5 → Rev 10 allusion is Weak at most. The primary scroll-eating source for Rev 10 remains Ezek 2-3 (AN037 Strong).

Four Chariots with Four Colors of Horses from Between Bronze Mountains

Zechariah 6:1 And I turned, and lifted up mine eyes, and looked, and, behold, there came four chariots out from between two mountains; and the mountains [were] mountains of brass. 6:2 In the first chariot [were] red horses; and in the second chariot black horses; 6:3 And in the third chariot white horses; and in the fourth chariot grisled and bay horses. 6:4 Then I answered and said unto the angel that talked with me, What [are] these, my lord? 6:5 And the angel answered and said unto me, These [are] the four spirits of the heavens, which go forth from standing before the Lord of all the earth. 6:6 The black horses which [are] therein go forth into the north country; and the white go forth after them; and the grisled go forth toward the south country. 6:7 And the bay went forth, and sought to go that they might walk to and fro through the earth: and he said, Get you hence, walk to and fro through the earth. So they walked to and fro through the earth. 6:8 Then cried he upon me, and spake unto me, saying, Behold, these that go toward the north country have quieted my spirit in the north country.

Context: Zechariah 6 — Four chariots from between two bronze mountains. Four colors: red, black, white, grisled/bay. Function: go to the four compass directions. 'Four spirits of the heavens' standing before the Lord.

Notes: Color comparison with Rev 6: Zech 6 has red/black/white/grisled → Rev 6 has white/red/black/pale(chloros). Three colors overlap (red, black, white) but ORDER is different. Fourth color entirely different: grisled/bay (barod/'amots) vs. chloros (pale/deathly green). LXX renders grisled (barod) as psaroi kai poikiloi ('speckled and many-colored'), NOT chloros. Chloros does NOT appear in LXX Zechariah — confirmed. Fourth horse color is Revelation's own addition. Function shift: 'spirits of the heavens going forth' (patrol/cosmic administration) → judgment-executing horsemen. pyrrhos (G4450, red horse Rev 6:4) appears only at Rev 6:4 and Rev 12:3 (red dragon) — TM212 exclusive vocabulary link.

Seven Golden Lampstands and the Glorified Christ

Revelation 1:12 And I turned to see the voice that spake with me. And being turned, I saw seven golden candlesticks; 1:13 And in the midst of the seven candlesticks [one] like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle. 1:14 His head and [his] hairs [were] white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes [were] as a flame of fire; 1:15 And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters. 1:16 And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp twoedged sword: and his countenance [was] as the sun shineth in his strength.

Context: Revelation 1 — John's inaugural vision of the glorified Christ among seven golden lampstands. The lampstands are identified in 1:20 as the seven churches.

Notes: 1:15 'voice as the sound of many waters' (phōnē hydatōn pollōn) = Ezek 43:2 'his voice like a noise of many waters.' The returning Kavod's voice (Ezek 43:2) is applied to Christ. Seven lampstands from Zechariah 4:2 appear here multiplied to seven = seven churches (1:20 decoder). This decoder (lampstands = churches) is what makes Rev 11:4 'two lampstands = two witnesses' intelligible: the witnesses ARE the church in its prophetic witness function.

Heavenly Throne Room: Full Chapter Overview

See sub-entries Rev 4:1-8 and Rev 4:5-6 for detailed verse analysis.

Context: Revelation 4 — Full throne room vision overview. Four living creatures, twenty-four elders, sea of glass, seven lamps of fire. Full chapter overview entry.

Notes: VP187 Strong (8 elements shared with Ezek 1). Core transformation passage. Source merger: Ezek 1 + Isa 6 = Rev 4. See sub-entries for detailed analysis of verses 1-8 and verses 5-6.

Throne Room: Four Living Creatures Each with ONE Face, Six Wings, Full of Eyes

Revelation 4:1 After this I looked, and, behold, a door [was] opened in heaven: and the first voice which I heard [was] as it were of a trumpet talking with me; which said, Come up hither, and I will shew thee things which must be hereafter. 4:2 And immediately I was in the spirit: and, behold, a throne was set in heaven, and [one] sat on the throne. 4:3 And he that sat was to look upon like a jasper and a sardine stone: and [there was] a rainbow round about the throne, in sight like unto an emerald. 4:4 And round about the throne [were] four and twenty seats: and upon the seats I saw four and twenty elders sitting, clothed in white raiment; and they had on their heads crowns of gold. 4:5 And out of the throne proceeded lightnings and thunderings and voices: and [there were] seven lamps of fire burning before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God. 4:6 And before the throne [there was] a sea of glass like unto crystal: and in the midst of the throne, and round about the throne, [were] four beasts full of eyes before and behind. 4:7 And the first beast [was] like a lion, and the second beast like a calf, and the third beast had a face as a man, and the fourth beast [was] like a flying eagle. 4:8 And the four beasts had each of them six wings about [him]; and [they were] full of eyes within: and they rest not day and night, saying, Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come.

Context: Revelation 4 — The heavenly throne room. Four living creatures (zōa), one face each, six wings, eyes covering their bodies. Sea of glass below the throne. The core transformation passage for Ezek 1.

Notes: VP187 Strong (8 elements shared with Ezek 1). FEATURE COMPARISON TABLE: (1) Faces: Ezek 1:10 = 4 per creature; Rev 4:7 = 1 per creature — individualization. (2) Wings: Ezek 1:6 = 4 wings; Rev 4:8 = 6 wings (source: Isa 6:2). (3) Eyes: Ezek 1:18 = on WHEELS; Rev 4:6 = on creature bodies ('full of eyes before and behind'). (4) Trisagion: absent Ezek 1; present Rev 4:8 (source: Isa 6:3). (5) Crystal: Ezek 1:22 = firmament ABOVE creatures; Rev 4:6 = sea of glass BELOW throne. (6) G2226 zōon = NOT cheroubim (G5502) — deliberate terminological shift. Source merger: Ezek 1 + Isa 6 = Rev 4 composite. 4:5 seven lamps of fire = seven Spirits = Zechariah verbal chain (Zech 4:6,10 decoder).

Seven Lamps of Fire = Seven Spirits; Sea of Glass Like Crystal

Revelation 4:5 And out of the throne proceeded lightnings and thunderings and voices: and [there were] seven lamps of fire burning before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God. 4:6 And before the throne [there was] a sea of glass like unto crystal: and in the midst of the throne, and round about the throne, [were] four beasts full of eyes before and behind.

Context: Revelation 4 — Two distinct Zechariah-sourced features in the same verses: the seven lamps of fire identified as the seven Spirits (Zech 4:2,6,10 verbal chain) and the sea of glass like crystal (transformation of Ezek 1:22 crystal firmament).

Notes: 4:5 seven lamps = seven Spirits — this is Rev's insertion of the Zechariah verbal decoder (Zech 4:2 lamps → 4:6 Spirit → 4:10 eyes of the LORD). Rev 4:5 applies the decoder directly: lampas pyros (lamps of fire) = hepta pneumata (seven Spirits). G2985 lampas (lamp/torch): seven lampades of fire — lampas is the individual lamp, lychnia (G3087) is the lampstand. 4:6 sea of glass homoian krystaillo — G2930 krystallos. Ezek 1:22 raqia = crystal firmament ABOVE the creatures; Rev 4:6 glassy sea BEFORE (in front of) the throne, i.e., BELOW. Positional transformation: the crystal structure moves from above to below while preserving the crystal quality. Eyes on zōa bodies here (before and behind) vs. Ezek 1:18 eyes on wheel rims.

Lamb with Seven Horns and Seven Eyes = Seven Spirits Sent into All the Earth

Revelation 5:6 And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth.

Context: Revelation 5 — The Lamb appears in the throne room. Seven eyes are decoded as 'the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth' — applying Zechariah 4:10's 'eyes of the LORD which run to and fro through the whole earth' to the Lamb.

Notes: VP099 Strong: 'seven eyes = seven Spirits sent into all the earth' ← Zech 4:10 'eyes of the LORD which run to and fro through the whole earth.' OBJECT TRANSFORMATION: Zech 3:9 stone with seven eyes → Rev 5:6 Lamb with seven eyes. Atonement context preserved: Zech 3:9 'remove iniquity in one day'; Rev 5:6 Lamb 'as it had been slain' (esphagmenon, perfect passive participle — ongoing sacrificial reality). Greek: arnion (G721, diminutive 'little lamb') hestēkos (Perf Act Ptcp Acc Sg N — standing in a completed state) hōs esphagmenon (as one having been slain — permanent condition). ophthalmous hepta (seven eyes, Acc Pl M) = hepta pneumata (seven Spirits, Nom Pl N) — the eyes ARE the Spirits. Zech 4:10 LXX: ophthalmoi hepta houtoi epiblepontai epi pasan tēn gēn — same vocabulary chain to Rev 5:6.

The Sealed Scroll and the Lamb with Seven Eyes

Revelation 5:1 And I saw in the right hand of him that sat on the throne a book written within and on the backside, sealed with seven seals. 5:2 And I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, Who is worthy to open the book, and to loose the seals thereof? 5:3 And no man in heaven, nor in earth, neither under the earth, was able to open the book, neither to look thereon. 5:4 And I wept much, because no man was found worthy to open and to read the book, neither to look thereon. 5:5 And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof. 5:6 And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth. 5:7 And he came and took the book out of the right hand of him that sat upon the throne. 5:8 And when he had taken the book, the four beasts and four [and] twenty elders fell down before the Lamb, having every one of them harps, and golden vials full of odours, which are the prayers of saints.

Context: Revelation 5 — The scroll with seven seals (cf. Ezek 2:9-10 two-sided scroll). The Lamb appears with seven horns and seven eyes = seven Spirits sent into all the earth.

Notes: 5:1 scroll 'written within and on the backside' = Ezek 2:9-10 'written within and without.' Direct morphological parallel. 5:6 'seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth' = Zech 4:10 'the eyes of the LORD, which run to and fro through the whole earth.' VP099 Strong. Stone (Zech 3:9) → Lamb (Rev 5:6): object changes, seven-eye symbolism preserved. esphagmenon = perfect passive participle 'as it had been slain' — the ongoing sacrificial reality embedded in the Lamb's identity. 5:8 zōa hold vials — textual function: worship leaders, intercessors, not 'universe administrators' (Bohr claim).

Four Horsemen: White, Red, Black, Pale

Revelation 6:1 And I saw when the Lamb opened one of the seals, and I heard, as it were the noise of thunder, one of the four beasts saying, Come and see. 6:2 And I saw, and behold a white horse: and he that sat on him had a bow; and a crown was given unto him: and he went forth conquering, and to conquer. 6:3 And when he had opened the second seal, I heard the second beast say, Come and see. 6:4 And there went out another horse [that was] red: and [power] was given to him that sat thereon to take peace from the earth, and that they should kill one another: and there was given unto him a great sword. 6:5 And when he had opened the third seal, I heard the third beast say, Come and see. And I beheld, and lo a black horse; and he that sat on him had a pair of balances in his hand. 6:6 And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say, A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny; and [see] thou hurt not the oil and the wine. 6:7 And when he had opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth beast say, Come and see. 6:8 And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the earth.

Context: Revelation 6 — The four seal-horsemen. White, red, black, pale (chloros). Death and Hades pair on the fourth horse.

Notes: Color comparison with Zechariah: white/red/black overlap; pale (chloros, G5515) = Revelation's own addition (absent from LXX Zechariah). Death and Hades (G86) pair = Revelation's own addition (absent from Zechariah). Judgment content (sword, hunger, death, beasts) draws from Ezek 14:21 fourfold formula (VP074 Strong), not Zechariah. Order reversal: Zech 1:8 red-first, white-last → Rev 6 white-first, red-second. pyrrhos (G4450) at 6:4 links exclusively to Rev 12:3 red dragon (TM212). G5515 chloros: 4 NT occurrences — Mark 6:39 (green grass), Rev 8:7, 9:4 (green vegetation), 6:8 (pallor of death); the death-pallor sense is unique to Rev 6:8.

Seal on Foreheads Before Judgment

Revelation 7:3 Saying, Hurt not the earth, neither the sea, nor the trees, till we have sealed the servants of our God in their foreheads. 7:4 And I heard the number of them which were sealed: [and there were] sealed an hundred [and] forty [and] four thousand of all the tribes of the children of Israel.

Context: Revelation 7 — Sealing before the trumpet plagues. Seal on foreheads functions protectively, just as Ezek 9:4 tav mark protected before Jerusalem's judgment.

Notes: VP188 Strong → Ezek 9:4. Same pattern: protective mark/seal → judgment delayed → judgment released. Ezek 9:4 marks those who sigh and cry; Rev 7:3 seals servants of God. Paleo-Hebrew tav = X/cross shape (sanc-27 finding). Both scenes precede the destructive angels acting.

Mighty Angel with Little Book — Sweet and Bitter (Full Chapter Overview)

See sub-entries Rev 10:1-4 and Rev 10:8-11 for detailed verse analysis.

Context: Revelation 10 — Interlude before the seventh trumpet. Mighty angel descends, scroll eating, sweet/bitter experience, commission to prophesy. Full chapter overview entry.

Notes: AN037 Strong — Ezek 2:9-3:3 primary source. KEY TRANSFORMATION: sweet only (Ezek 3:3) → sweet then bitter (Rev 10:10). Angel's rainbow (10:1) → Ezek 1:28 kavod rainbow. G4087 pikraino / G1099 glykys. See sub-entries for detailed analysis.

Mighty Angel with Little Book; Rainbow on Head; Seven Thunders

Revelation 10:1 And I saw another mighty angel come down from heaven, clothed with a cloud: and a rainbow [was] upon his head, and his face [was] as it were the sun, and his feet as pillars of fire: 10:2 And he had in his hand a little book open: and he set his right foot upon the sea, and [his] left [foot] on the earth, 10:3 And cried with a loud voice, as [when] a lion roareth: and when he had cried, seven thunders uttered their voices. 10:4 And when the seven thunders had uttered their voices, I was about to write: and I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Seal up those things which the seven thunders uttered, and write them not.

Context: Revelation 10 — The mighty angel descends clothed with cloud, rainbow on his head, face like the sun, feet as pillars of fire. He holds the little open scroll. Seven thunders speak but are sealed.

Notes: Angel's rainbow (10:1) connects to Ezek 1:28 rainbow = appearance of the kavod's glory; Rev 4:3 rainbow around the throne. The rainbow is consistently a kavod/glory marker. The angel's cosmic stance (right foot on sea, left on earth) = cosmic authority claim. Seven thunders sealed — this withholding of content parallels the sealed scroll motif (Rev 5:1). 'Clothed with a cloud' = theophanic cloud of the divine presence. The angel's appearance echoes the risen Christ (Rev 1:13-16) — face as sun, feet as fire. Feet as pillars of fire → Ezek 1:7 burnished brass feet of the creatures.

Eat the Little Book: Sweet in Mouth, Bitter in Belly; Commission to Prophesy Again

Revelation 10:8 And the voice which I heard from heaven spake unto me again, and said, Go [and] take the little book which is open in the hand of the angel which standeth upon the sea and upon the earth. 10:9 And I went unto the angel, and said unto him, Give me the little book. And he said unto me, Take [it], and eat it up; and it shall make thy belly bitter, but it shall be in thy mouth sweet as honey. 10:10 And I took the little book out of the angel's hand, and ate it up; and it was in my mouth sweet as honey: and as soon as I had eaten it, my belly was bitter. 10:11 And he said unto me, Thou must prophesy again before many peoples, and nations, and tongues, and kings.

Context: Revelation 10 — The scroll-eating commission. The scroll is sweet as honey in the mouth but makes the belly bitter. Commission to prophesy again to nations and kings.

Notes: AN037 Strong — Ezek 2:9-3:3 primary source. KEY TRANSFORMATION: Ezek 3:3 scroll is purely sweet ('as honey for sweetness'); Rev 10:10 adds belly bitterness (absent from Ezek 3:3). Mede (745): 'no reference, or but an obscure one, to bitterness in the belly' in Ezekiel. G1099 glykys at 10:9,10 ('sweet as honey'); G4087 pikraino at 10:10 ('my belly was bitter'). The bitterness is bodily/immediate/intrinsic to digestion — NOT emotional aftermath (contrast Ezek 3:14's mar bittereness of spirit/ruach). 10:11 propheteusai palin ('thou must prophesy again') = G4394 propheteia chain → Rev 11:3 witnesses 'shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days.' The commission produces the two-witness ministry of Rev 11.

Reed Like a Rod; Measure Naos; Exclude Outer Court; Two Witnesses = Two Olive Trees and Two Lampstands

Revelation 11:1 And there was given me a reed like unto a rod: and the angel stood, saying, Rise, and measure the temple of God, and the altar, and them that worship therein. 11:2 But the court which is without the temple leave out, and measure it not; for it is given unto the Gentiles: and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty [and] two months. 11:3 And I will give [power] unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred [and] threescore days, clothed in sackcloth. 11:4 These are the two olive trees, and the two candlesticks standing before the God of the earth.

Context: Revelation 11 — Temple measuring and two witnesses. The outer court (aulē) is excluded. The witnesses are identified as both olive trees AND lampstands simultaneously.

Notes: 11:1 'kalamos homoios rabdō' (reed like a rod) — kalamos (G2563) = same word as Ezek 40:3 LXX (qaneh → kalamos). Strong lexical link. THE CRITICAL TRANSFORMATION: Rev 11:2 explicitly EXCLUDES the outer court ('leave out, measure it not') — Ezekiel measures EVERYTHING including outer court (Ezek 40:6-16). Measuring becomes theologically charged: what is measured = protected (naos + altar + worshippers); what is excluded = given to Gentiles for trampling (42 months). aulē (G833) — only occurrence in Revelation. 11:4 'hai duo elaiai kai hai duo lychniai' — AN038 Explicit, near-verbatim Zech 4:14 LXX. MERGER: in Zech 4, olive trees and lampstand are SEPARATE; in Rev 11:4 witnesses ARE BOTH simultaneously. TM214 constructio ad sensum: hestotes (masculine participle) with feminine subjects elaiai/lychniai — witnesses are PERSONS not objects.

Great Red Dragon

Revelation 12:3 And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads.

Context: Revelation 12 — The red dragon identified as Satan (12:9). Color: pyrrhos (G4450).

Notes: TM212: pyrrhos (G4450) appears only at Rev 6:4 (red horse) and Rev 12:3 (red dragon). Exclusive vocabulary link: the red horse of conquest is structurally tied to the red dragon. The color connects the second seal judgment to its ultimate sponsor.

Angel Summons Birds to Eat Flesh — Pre-Millennium Bird Feast

Revelation 19:17 And I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the fowls that fly in the midst of heaven, Come and gather yourselves together unto the supper of the great God; 19:18 That ye may eat the flesh of kings, and the flesh of captains, and the flesh of mighty men, and the flesh of horses, and of them that sit on them, and the flesh of all [men, both] free and bond, both small and great.

Context: Revelation 19 — BEFORE the millennium. Angel summons birds to eat the flesh of the fallen. This is the bird-feast element from Ezek 39:17-20.

Notes: VP166 Strong → Ezek 39:17-20. Vocabulary match: 'feathered fowl'/'fowls that fly' + 'eat flesh' + 'flesh of kings/mighty men' (Ezek 39:17-18 / Rev 19:17-18). This element appears in Rev 19 (PRE-millennium) while Gog-Magog names appear in Rev 20 (POST-millennium). The SPLIT of Ezek 38-39 material across two Revelation scenes: bird feast (Ezek 39:17-20) → Rev 19:17-18; fire-from-God defeat + Gog/Magog name (Ezek 38-39) → Rev 20:7-10. This split undermines Riddlebarger's same-event reading.

Gog and Magog — Nations from Four Corners — Fire from Heaven

Revelation 20:7 And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison, 20:8 And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom [is] as the sand of the sea. 20:9 And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them. 20:10 And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet [are], and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.

Context: Revelation 20 — POST-millennium. Satan released, Gog and Magog gathered from four corners, fire from heaven defeats them.

Notes: PRIMARY Gog-Magog parallel with Ezek 38-39. TRANSFORMATIONS: (1) 'four quarters of the earth' (20:8) replaces Ezek's 'north parts' (38:15) — universalization; (2) 'Gog and Magog' in Rev 20:8 function as collective appositive to 'the nations' — named coalition dissolved into universal representation; (3) Satan goes OUT TO DECEIVE (planao, G4105) — the deception chain from 2:20; 12:9; 13:14; 18:23; 19:20; 20:3,8,10. (4) Fire from heaven (20:9) = Ezek 38:22; 39:6 preserved. (5) 'Camp of the saints, the beloved city' (20:9) → Ezek 38:11-12 'unwalled villages / land of Israel' — typological correspondence. 'Beloved city' = ekklesia spiritually interpreted. EGW identification (JTLD 383.2): 'armies of the damned' — aligns with Rev 20:8 post-millennium timing.

New Jerusalem; Tabernacle of God with Men

Revelation 21:2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 21:3 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God [is] with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, [and be] their God.

Context: Revelation 21 — New Jerusalem descends. The tabernacle of God with men (skene) = fulfillment of Ezek 37:27 and Ezek 48:35 YHWH Shammah.

Notes: AN098 Probable → Ezek 37:26-27 / 48:35. LXX skene chain: Ezek 37:27 mishkan → skene → Rev 21:3 skene. 'God himself shall be with them' = fulfillment of YHWH Shammah (Ezek 48:35, 'the LORD is there'). Fulfillment-by-transcendence: in Ezek, YHWH present in restored physical city; in Rev 21, God's presence IS the city (21:22 'I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it').

Angel Measures New Jerusalem with Golden Reed

Revelation 21:15 And he that talked with me had a golden reed to measure the city, and the gates thereof, and the wall thereof. 21:16 And the city lieth foursquare, and the length is as large as the breadth: and he measured the city with the reed, twelve thousand furlongs. The length and the breadth and the height of it are equal. 21:17 And he measured the wall thereof, an hundred [and] forty [and] four cubits, [according to] the measure of a man, that is, of the angel.

Context: Revelation 21 — The New Jerusalem measured with a GOLDEN reed by an ANGEL. Glorious dimensions (12,000 furlongs). Deliberate contrast with Rev 11:1 (mortal reed, minimal instruction).

Notes: kalamos again (G2563) — third use in Revelation (after Rev 11:1). CONTRAST with Rev 11:1: (a) instrument: mortal reed → golden reed (chrysoun kalamon); (b) measurer: John → angel; (c) result: outer court excluded → full glorious city measured in detail. Dulk (2008) confirms this deliberate contrast as a compositional device. Ezek 40 measures a restoration-temple; Rev 11 measures under persecution; Rev 21 measures the eternal city.

No Temple in New Jerusalem — God and Lamb Are the Temple

Revelation 21:22 And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it. 21:23 And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb [is] the light thereof.

Context: Revelation 21 — Explicit negation of Ezekiel's detailed temple vision. No temple in the New Jerusalem.

Notes: Moyise's 'radical reinterpretation': John invokes Ezekiel's restored-temple river and city imagery precisely to SUPERSEDE it. Ezek 40-48 is entirely devoted to a detailed temple; Rev 21:22 cancels it with three Greek words (naon ouk eidon). 21:23 glory lights the city = Ezek 43:5 'glory of the LORD filled the house' → VP191 Strong. SP104 Temple-to-Throne trajectory: the Lamb IS the temple; the throne IS the sanctuary source (Rev 22:1). Fulfillment-by-transcendence at maximum intensity.

River of Life from the Throne — Tree of Life with Healing Leaves

Revelation 22:1 And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb. 22:2 In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, [was there] the tree of life, which bare twelve [manner of] fruits, [and] yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree [were] for the healing of the nations.

Context: Revelation 22 — The river of life from the throne. The tree of life. Healing of the nations. Transformation of Ezek 47:1-12.

Notes: AN094 Strong — primary parallel with Ezek 47:1-12. THREE-PART TRANSFORMATION confirmed: (1) SOURCE: Ezek 47:1 'from under the threshold of the house' → Rev 22:1 'out of the throne of God and of the Lamb'; (2) TREES: Ezek 47:7,12 'very many trees' → Rev 22:2 'tree of life' (Gen 2:9 composite, SP107); (3) HEALING: Ezek 47:12 'leaf for medicine' → Rev 22:2 'healing of the nations' (national/eschatological scope). LXX chain: H5104 nahar → G4215 potamos (101 co-occurrences, PMI 7.03) → Rev 22:1 potamos — SAME word. G4215 potamos: 8 of 16 NT occurrences in Revelation (50%), with 22:1-2 as the climactic instance.

Tree of Life in Eden

Genesis 2:9 And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

Context: Genesis 2 — The tree of life in the Garden of Eden. Source for the tree-of-life identification in Rev 22:2.

Notes: SP107 OT source merger: Rev 22:2 composites Ezek 47 (river + healing leaves + monthly fruit) + Gen 2:9 (tree of life identification). The tree in Ezek 47 has no specific identity; Rev 22:2 names it 'tree of life' from Gen 2. Multi-source composition evident.

Fountain from the House of the LORD

Joel 3:18 And it shall come to pass in that day, [that] the mountains shall drop down new wine, and the hills shall flow with milk, and all the rivers of Judah shall flow with waters, and a fountain shall come forth of the house of the LORD, and shall water the valley of Shittim.

Context: Joel 3 — Eschatological fountain from the house of the LORD. Contributing voice to the river-of-life imagery alongside Ezek 47.

Notes: Contributing voice (multi-prophet convergence) alongside Ezek 47 and Zech 13:1 for the river-of-life imagery. Weaker than Ezek 47 as primary source. Note: 'house of the LORD' aligns with Ezek 47 temple-source rather than Rev 22:1 throne-source.

Fountain Opened for Sin and Uncleanness

Zechariah 13:1 In that day there shall be a fountain opened to the house of David and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem for sin and for uncleanness.

Context: Zechariah 13 — Eschatological fountain for cleansing from sin. Another contributing voice alongside Ezek 47 in the river-of-life complex.

Notes: Contributing voice to Rev 22:1-2 river complex. Adds cleansing-from-sin dimension. Note the atonement parallel: Zech 13:1 fountain for sin → Rev 22:1 river proceeding from the Lamb who was slain. Convergence with Zech 3:9 'remove iniquity in one day' in the atonement/cleansing theme.
