Bible Study: Does the New Testament repeat the same three-part pattern (gospel call → expose false system → warn of judgment) before Revelation 14? Examine: John the Baptist's ministry, Jesus' ministry, Stephen's speech in Acts 7, Paul at Athens (Acts 17:22-31), Paul to Rome (Rom 1-3).¶
Question¶
Does the New Testament repeat the same three-part pattern (gospel call → expose false system → warn of judgment) before Revelation 14? Examine: John the Baptist's ministry, Jesus' ministry, Stephen's speech in Acts 7, Paul at Athens (Acts 17:22-31), Paul to Rome (Rom 1-3).
Prior Research Summary¶
Three prior 3AM studies establish context: 3am-02 proved six OT episodes (Noah, Sodom, Egypt, Carmel, Josiah, Jeremiah) contain the three-part pattern and documented vocabulary chains (riyb→krisis, shachah→proskyneo, yatsa→exerchomai, chemah→thumos). gsp-10 proved Acts 17:22-31 maps element-by-element onto the first angel's message and that 1 Thess 1:9-10 compresses all three elements. gsp-07 proved judgment is integral to the gospel (Rom 2:16, Acts 17:30-31). Web research identified Dodd's kerygma analysis, Parsons' chiastic structure in Acts 17, Toussaint's three-cord analysis of Acts 7, Andrews' anticipation-vs-announcement distinction, Campbell's rhetorical analysis of Rom 1-3, and scholarly recognition of Matt 23's three-section structure. EGW explicitly connects John the Baptist to the first angel's message via the Elijah chain. Bohr expands this into a Three Elijahs framework.

John the Baptist's three-part ministry pattern: Retrieve the full texts of Matt 3:1-12 and Luke 3:1-20 with chapter context. Run greek_parser.py on Matt 3:2, 3:7, 3:10, 3:12 to parse key terms: metanoeo (G3340), gennemata echidnon (offspring of vipers), axine (G513, axe), pyr asbestos (G762, unquenchable fire). Check whether John's preaching naturally divides into three movements: (1) gospel call — 'Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand' (Matt 3:2); (2) exposure — 'generation of vipers,' denunciation of presuming on Abrahamic descent (3:7-9), reproof of Herod (Luke 3:19-20); (3) judgment warning — 'axe laid to the root' (3:10), 'unquenchable fire' (3:12). READ $WORD_STUDIES/G3340-metanoeo.md and $WORD_STUDIES/G3341-metanoia.md. Run cross_testament_parallels_v2.py on Matt 3:10 and Matt 3:12 to find OT judgment parallels. Check whether Luke 3:18 explicitly labels all of this as 'euangelizo' — if so, John's entire message including judgment warning is called gospel, paralleling Rev 14:6. Verses: Matt 3:1-3, Matt 3:7-10, Matt 3:11-12, Luke 3:7-14, Luke 3:15-18, Luke 3:18-20, Mal 4:5-6, Luke 1:15-17 Strong's: G3340, G3341, G2097, G513, G762, G4442

Jesus' Matthew 23 discourse as three-part pattern: Retrieve the full text of Matthew 23 with chapter context (also Matt 24:1-3 for the transition to Olivet Discourse). The chapter divides into three sections: (1) warning about scribes/Pharisees (vv.1-12) — initial address to the disciples and people; (2) seven woes (vv.13-33) — systematic exposure of hypocrisy, a 'what' vs 'whom' problem (see Parsons on Acts 17); (3) judgment warning (vv.33-39) — 'how shall ye escape the damnation of gehenna' (v.33), blood guilt (vv.34-36), desolation lament (vv.37-39). Run greek_parser.py on Matt 23:13 (ouai/woe), 23:33 (krisis/judgment, geenna), 23:38 (eremos/desolate). READ $WORD_STUDIES/G2920-krisis.md for the judgment vocabulary. Investigate whether Matt 23-25 as a unit forms a macro three-part pattern: exposure (ch.23) → judgment signs (ch.24) → judgment execution parables (ch.25). Run cross_testament_parallels_v2.py on Matt 23:33 and 23:37 to find OT connections (Jer 7:34, Deut 32 links). Verses: Matt 23:1-12, Matt 23:13-33, Matt 23:33-36, Matt 23:37-39 Strong's: G3759, G2920, G1067, G2048, G5273

Stephen's speech as prophetic covenant lawsuit: Retrieve the full text of Acts 7 (especially vv.2-53). Toussaint identifies three thematic cords: (1) God's program shows progress; (2) blessings transcend geography; (3) Israel consistently opposed God's messengers. Map these to: gospel history (vv.2-43 — God's faithfulness from Abraham through Moses), exposure of false system (vv.44-50 — temple theology exposed: 'the Most High dwelleth not in temples made with hands'), judgment indictment (vv.51-53 — 'ye stiff-necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears'). Run greek_parser.py on Acts 7:51 to parse sklerotrochelos (stiff-necked), antipiptete (resist), and Acts 7:52 (dikaios/Just One). Check whether 'stiff-necked' (sklerotrochelos, G4644) echoes Deut 9:6 LXX — if so, Stephen is invoking the covenant lawsuit tradition (riyb pattern) documented in 3am-02. READ $WORD_STUDIES/H7378-riyb.md and the TR-riyb-krisis translation relationship. Hodges argues the Joseph-Moses rejection typology is the unifying theme — verify whether the rejected-then-exalted pattern parallels the gospel element. Run cross_testament_parallels_v2.py on Acts 7:51. Verses: Acts 7:2-8, Acts 7:9-16, Acts 7:20-36, Acts 7:37-43, Acts 7:44-50, Acts 7:51-53 Strong's: G4644, G496, G4151, G1342, G5406, G4396

Paul at Athens — chiastic sermon with three-part pattern: Retrieve the full text of Acts 17:16-34 with context. Parsons identifies a chiasm: A (ignorance, vv.22-23) / B (Creator, vv.24-25) / C (humanity-God, vv.26-28) / B' (idols exposed, v.29) / A' (judgment, vv.30-31). Run greek_parser.py on Acts 17:23 (agnostos/unknown God), 17:24 (kosmos/world, poiesas/made), 17:29 (theion/Godhead), 17:30 (hupereidon/overlooked, metanoein/repent), 17:31 (estesen hemeran/appointed a day, krinen/judge, anastesas/raised). READ $WORD_STUDIES/G3340-metanoeo.md, $WORD_STUDIES/G2920-krisis.md, $WORD_STUDIES/G2316-theos.md. The critical parallel with Rev 14:6-7 is: Creator worship (17:24 ~ Rev 14:7 'made heaven and earth'), universal scope (17:26,30 ~ Rev 14:6 'every nation'), judgment announcement (17:31 ~ Rev 14:7 'the hour of his judgment'). Check the Greek tense of 'estesen' (aorist) vs Rev 14:7 'elthen' — this is key to Andrews' anticipation-vs-announcement distinction. Run cross_testament_parallels_v2.py on Acts 17:31 for both OT and NT parallels. Verses: Acts 17:22-25, Acts 17:26-28, Acts 17:29-31 Strong's: G57, G2889, G4160, G5237, G3340, G2919, G2250, G450

Paul's Romans 1-3 as gospel-exposure-judgment progression: Retrieve the full text of Rom 1:16-3:26 with chapter context. The traditional reading identifies a progressive structure: gospel declaration (1:16-17 — 'power of God unto salvation'), Gentile corruption exposed (1:18-32 — 'knew God, glorified him not as God, changed the truth into a lie'), Jewish corruption exposed (2:1-29 — 'thou that judgest doest the same things'), universal judgment verdict (3:9-20 — 'all the world guilty before God'). Run greek_parser.py on Rom 1:16 (dynamis/power, euangelion), 1:18 (orge/wrath, apokalyptetai/revealed), 1:25 (esebasthesan/worshipped, creature/ktisis), 2:16 (kata to euangelion mou/according to my gospel), 3:19 (hupodikos/under judgment). READ $WORD_STUDIES/G2098-euangelion.md, $WORD_STUDIES/G3709-orge.md, $WORD_STUDIES/G2920-krisis.md. The critical verse is Rom 2:16 — Paul explicitly ties judgment to 'my gospel' (kata to euangelion mou), proving judgment is not separate from gospel but integral to it. This parallels Rev 14:6 where the judgment announcement IS the everlasting gospel. Campbell's prosopopoeia theory does not negate the structural parallel — even if 1:18-32 is speech-in-character, the three-part movement remains. Run cross_testament_parallels_v2.py on Rom 2:16. Verses: Rom 1:16-17, Rom 1:18-25, Rom 1:26-32, Rom 2:1-11, Rom 2:12-16, Rom 3:9-20 Strong's: G2098, G1411, G3709, G601, G2937, G4352, G5228

Pattern synthesis — structural correspondence across all five episodes: After gathering data on all five episodes (John the Baptist, Jesus' Matt 23, Stephen, Paul at Athens, Paul in Romans), build a synthesis comparing how each instance maps to the three-angel pattern. The Love in Truth academic thesis identifies four consistent elements across apostolic sermons: (1) core gospel facts proclaimed, (2) error/sin exposed — preachers 'unfailingly identify the main source of their opposition,' (3) call to response, (4) eschatological warning. Note how the EXPOSURE element adapts to audience while maintaining the same structural position: John exposes Pharisaic presumption, Jesus exposes scribal hypocrisy, Stephen exposes temple theology and prophet-rejection, Paul exposes Athenian idolatry, Romans exposes both Gentile and Jewish corruption. In every case the exposure targets the specific false system the audience is entrapped in — paralleling the second angel targeting 'Babylon' (the false system of the hearer's context). READ the 3am-02 CONCLUSION.md comparison matrix for the OT episodes to model the format. The synthesis should also note additional NT instances: Peter at Pentecost (Acts 2), Paul at Antioch (Acts 13), Paul before Felix (Acts 24:25), 1 Thess 1:9-10. Verses: Rev 14:6-7, Rev 14:8, Rev 14:9-11, 1 Thess 1:9-10, Acts 24:24-25, Acts 2:14-40, Acts 13:16-41 Strong's: G2097, G2098, G2920, G3709, G2372

Anticipation vs. announcement — the temporal distinction: The critical comparison is between the Greek tenses in the NT judgment announcements and Rev 14:7. Run greek_parser.py on Acts 17:31 (estesen hemeran — aorist 'appointed a day'), Acts 24:25 (krima to mellon — 'the judgment to come,' future participle), and Rev 14:7 (elthen he hora tes kriseos autou — 'the hour of his judgment IS come,' aorist). Andrews argues that NT speakers preached judgment as future/anticipated while the first angel announces it as arrived. Also check 2 Thess 2:3 where Paul explicitly warns the day of Christ is NOT yet come until the apostasy is revealed — showing apostolic awareness that the final judgment was reserved for a future period. READ $WORD_STUDIES/G2920-krisis.md and $WORD_STUDIES/G2250-hemera.md for the day/judgment vocabulary. Check Dan 8:17 and 12:4,9 (sealed until time of the end) — these explain WHY the specific judgment-hour announcement could not be made until the appointed time. Run cross_testament_parallels_v2.py on Rev 14:7 to find parallel judgment announcements. This focus area provides the interpretive framework: the NT instances are pattern, Rev 14 is fulfillment. Verses: Acts 17:31, Acts 24:24-25, Rev 14:7, 2 Thess 2:3-4, Dan 8:17, Dan 12:4 Strong's: G2920, G2250, G5610, G2064, G3195, G2476

Dodd's kerygma and the three-angel structure: Dodd identifies six principal components in Peter's speeches (Acts 2, 3, 10): (1) prophecy fulfillment, (2) Jesus' ministry/death/resurrection, (3) exaltation, (4) Holy Spirit evidence, (5) future consummation/judgment, (6) call to repentance. These can potentially be grouped as: Gospel (elements 1-4: the good news of what God has done), Exposure (implicit — the contrast between God's saving acts and the hearers' rejection/ignorance), Judgment (elements 5-6: consummation + repentance because judgment comes). Retrieve Acts 2:14-40 and check whether Peter's sermon follows this grouping: gospel proclamation (vv.14-36), exposure ('ye have taken and by wicked hands crucified,' v.23; 'whom ye have crucified,' v.36), judgment/repentance call (vv.37-40 — 'save yourselves from this untoward generation'). Also check 1 Cor 15:1-4 and 15:11 where Paul summarizes the kerygma and claims apostolic continuity. READ $WORD_STUDIES/G2782-kerygma.md for the proclamation vocabulary. The Elijah chain — three messengers delivering the same message type: The Elijah chain is prophesied in Mal 4:5-6 and applied to John the Baptist in Matt 11:14, 17:12-13, and Luke 1:17 ('in the spirit and power of Elijah'). EGW explicitly connects the chain: 'As John the Baptist, in preparing a people for Christ's first advent, called their attention to the Ten Commandments, so we are to give the message: Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come' (Mar 22.6). The 3am-02 study already documented the Elijah-at-Carmel pattern: gospel/worship call (1 Ki 18:21 — 'choose ye this day'), exposure (1 Ki 18:27 — mockery of Baal), judgment (1 Ki 18:38-40 — fire from heaven). Compare this with John: gospel call (Matt 3:2), exposure (Matt 3:7-9), judgment (Matt 3:10-12). And with the three angels: gospel (Rev 14:6-7), exposure (Rev 14:8), judgment (Rev 14:9-11). READ $WORD_STUDIES/G2097-euangelizo.md and the TR-basar-euangelizo translation relationship to trace the gospel-preaching vocabulary from OT to NT. Also read the TR-yare-phobeo relationship for the 'fear God' vocabulary. Run greek_parser.py on Luke 1:17 (en pneumati kai dynamei Heliou). Verses: Mal 4:5-6, Matt 11:7-14, Luke 1:15-17, Matt 3:1-12, Rev 14:6-12 Strong's: G2243, G1411, G4151, G5399, G2097

The exposure element as audience-adapted second angel: The second angel announces 'Babylon is fallen' — the collapse of the false system. In each NT episode, the preacher exposes a different manifestation of the same problem: John exposes the Pharisees' presumption of Abrahamic safety (Matt 3:9 — 'think not to say, We have Abraham to our father'), Jesus exposes scribal hypocrisy with seven woes (Matt 23:13-33), Stephen exposes temple theology as limiting the God who 'dwelleth not in temples made with hands' (Acts 7:48) and Israel's pattern of rejecting God's messengers (7:51-52), Paul exposes Athenian idolatry — worshipping 'a what, not a whom' (Acts 17:29), Romans exposes both Gentile idolatry (1:23 — 'changed the glory into an image') and Jewish hypocrisy (2:1 — 'thou that judgest doest the same'). Run greek_parser.py on Matt 3:9 (dokeo/think, patros/father), Acts 7:48 (cheiropoietos/handmade), Acts 17:29 (theion/divine, charagma/graven art), Rom 1:23 (eikon/image, phthartou/corruptible). READ $WORD_STUDIES/G1497-eidolon.md for the idolatry vocabulary. The common thread is exposure of FALSE SECURITY — each audience has a system they trust instead of God. This is what 'Babylon' represents across dispensations. Verses: Matt 3:7-9, Matt 23:13-33, Acts 7:44-50, Acts 17:29, Rom 1:22-25, Rom 2:1-5, Rev 14:8 Strong's: G1497, G5273, G5499, G1504, G5351

Additional Research Instructions¶
This study examines five NT episodes for the three-part pattern (gospel call → expose false system → warn of judgment) that the three angels of Rev 14:6-12 also follow. The OT precedent is established in 3am-02. The key distinction from Andrews is anticipation vs. announcement: NT speakers preached judgment as coming; the first angel announces it has arrived.
For each episode, the research agent must: (1) retrieve the full text with chapter context, (2) identify the three elements and their boundaries, (3) parse key Greek terms, (4) run cross-testament parallels, (5) note audience-specific adaptations.
Do NOT simply repeat findings from gsp-10 on Acts 17 — go deeper with parsing and chiastic analysis. The synthesis should produce a comparison matrix showing all five episodes plus Rev 14:6-12 side by side.
Special attention to: Luke 3:18 where John's entire message (including judgment warning) is explicitly labeled euangelizo — this parallels Rev 14:6's euangelion aionion. Also Rom 2:16 where Paul ties judgment to 'my gospel.' These two verses are critical proof-texts that judgment IS gospel.
Verify all external corpus leads against the biblical text. EGW and Bohr provide structural hypotheses to test; Scripture provides the evidence.
