Genesis 6:14 (kaphar = literal "pitch/cover")

עֲשֵׂה לְךָ תֵּבַת עֲצֵי־גֹפֶר קִנִּים תַּעֲשֶׂה אֶת־הַתֵּבָה וְכָפַרְתָּ אֹתָהּ מִבַּיִת וּמִחוּץ בַּכֹּפֶר

Key words:

Genesis 32:20 (kaphar = "appease")

Note: Parser returned verse 32:20 which is the command verse (Gen 32:19 in Hebrew numbering).
The kaphar occurrence is in Gen 32:21 in English (Gen 32:20 in Hebrew):
"I will appease him (akhaperah panayv) with the present that goeth before me"

Key insight: The verse containing kaphar = "I will cover his face" with the present.
This is the SECOND use of kaphar in the Bible -- already metaphorical: to cover someone's face/anger with a gift.

Psalms 49:8 (kopher = "ransom" -- no man can pay)

CRITICAL: Two different words for redemption in one verse:
1. padah (H6299) = "redeem, ransom" (verb, repeated with infinitive absolute for emphasis)
2. kopher (H3724) = "ransom-price, cover-price" (noun)
Combined meaning: "A brother -- a man cannot by any means redeem him, nor give to God his ransom-price"
The infinitive absolute + imperfect (padoh yipdeh) = emphatic impossibility: "absolutely cannot redeem"

Isaiah 43:3 (kopher = "ransom" -- God gives nations as price)

CRITICAL: God is the SUBJECT giving the kopher. "I gave Egypt as YOUR ransom... in your place."
The kopher is given BY God FOR Israel. God provides the ransom-price.
The tachat ("in place of") establishes substitution: Egypt in place of Israel.

Leviticus 16:14 (blood sprinkled on kapporeth)

וְלָקַח מִדַּם הַפָּר וְהִזָּה בְאֶצְבָּעוֹ עַל־פְּנֵי הַכַּפֹּרֶת קֵדְמָה וְלִפְנֵי הַכַּפֹּרֶת יַזֶּה שֶׁבַע־פְּעָמִים מִן־הַדָּם בְּאֶצְבָּעוֹ

Key words:

Leviticus 16:30 (purpose of DOA atonement)

כִּי־בַיּוֹם הַזֶּה יְכַפֵּר עֲלֵיכֶם לְטַהֵר אֶתְכֶם מִכֹּל חַטֹּאתֵיכֶם לִפְנֵי יְהוָה תִּטְהָרוּ

2. The PURPOSE of kaphar is stated: letaher = "to cleanse" (Piel infinitive construct of taher)
3. Result: tithharu = "you shall be clean" (Qal imperfect -- they become clean)
4. Source of sin: mikkol chatotekhem = "from ALL your sins" (comprehensive)
5. The atonement results in cleansing BEFORE THE LORD (liphney YHWH) -- it is done in God's presence

Leviticus 17:11 (foundational blood-atonement principle)

כִּי נֶפֶשׁ הַבָּשָׂר בַּדָּם הִוא וַאֲנִי נְתַתִּיו לָכֶם עַל־הַמִּזְבֵּחַ לְכַפֵּר עַל־נַפְשֹׁתֵיכֶם כִּי־הַדָּם הוּא בַּנֶּפֶשׁ יְכַפֵּר

2. God is the giver: "I (ani) gave it (netattiyw) to you (lakhem)" -- atonement is God's provision
3. The blood is the MEANS: "the blood, it by the life makes atonement" (instrumental beth)
4. nephesh appears 3 times: life of flesh, your souls, by the life -- the triad connects animal life, human souls, and the means of atonement
5. The beth in bannephesh is instrumental: "by means of the life [in it]"

Daniel 9:24 (to make reconciliation/atonement for iniquity)

שָׁבֻעִים שִׁבְעִים נֶחְתַּךְ עַל־עַמְּךָ וְעַל־עִיר קָדְשֶׁךָ לְכַלֵּא הַפֶּשַׁע וּלְהָתֵם חַטָּאת וּלְכַפֵּר עָוֹן וּלְהָבִיא צֶדֶק עֹלָמִים וְלַחְתֹּם חָזוֹן וְנָבִיא וְלִמְשֹׁחַ קֹדֶשׁ קָדָשִׁים

CRITICAL: kaphar (Piel infinitive construct) appears in a six-fold purpose clause:
1. To finish transgression (pesha')
2. To make an end of sins (chattat)
3. To make atonement (kaphar) for iniquity ('avon)
4. To bring everlasting righteousness
5. To seal up vision and prophecy
6. To anoint the most holy

Three different Hebrew words for sin are used: pesha' (rebellion), chattat (missing the mark), 'avon (iniquity/crookedness). Kaphar specifically addresses 'avon.
This is a prophetic/eschatological use of kaphar -- extending beyond the sanctuary ritual to messianic fulfillment.
