Key notes: - Two verbs from עבר (Hiphil = "cause to pass"): first Perf.2ms (singular command), then Impf.2mp (plural collective) - שׁופר תרועה = "horn of alarm/shouting" (construct chain) - כפרים (atonements) is PLURAL — "day of the atonements" - The verse explicitly equates: "the tenth of the seventh month" = "the day of atonement"
Leviticus 25:10¶

| תָּשֻֽׁבוּ | שׁוב | Verb.Qal.Impf.2mp | you shall return |
Key notes: - קדשׁ (Piel) = "consecrate/make holy" — the year itself is sanctified - קרא + דרור = "proclaim release/liberty" — the core Jubilee formula - שׁוב (return) appears TWICE — emphasis on return to possession AND family - אחזה = "land property/possession" — inherited ancestral land
Leviticus 25:23¶
וְהָאָ֗רֶץ לֹ֤א תִמָּכֵר֙ לִצְמִתֻ֔ת כִּי־לִ֖י הָאָ֑רֶץ כִּֽי־גֵרִ֧ים וְתֹושָׁבִ֛ים אַתֶּ֖ם עִמָּדִֽי׃

Key notes: - כִּי־לִ֖י הָאָ֑רֶץ — "for the land is MINE" — God is ultimate landlord - צמתת = "in perpetuity" — land cannot be sold permanently - גֵרִ֧ים וְתֹושָׁבִ֛ים = Israel are "sojourners and residents" ON GOD'S LAND
Isaiah 61:1¶

Qal.Ptcp.mp | and to those bound/imprisoned | |
| פְּקַח־קֹֽוחַ | פקח קוח | opening (of prison/eyes) |
Key notes: - משׁח (mashach) = anoint — root of Messiah/Mashiach - Same formula as Lev 25:10: קרא + דרור = "proclaim liberty/release" - שׁבוּיִם = captives (from שׁבה "take captive") — war captives specifically - אסורים = bound/imprisoned ones (from אסר "bind") - The messianic anointed one proclaims the SAME deror as the Jubilee
Isaiah 61:2¶
לִקְרֹ֤א שְׁנַת־רָצֹון֙ לַֽיהוָ֔ה וְיֹ֥ום נָקָ֖ם לֵאלֹהֵ֑ינוּ לְנַחֵ֖ם כָּל־אֲבֵלִֽים׃

| לְנַחֵ֖ם | נחם.Piel.InfCon | to comfort/console | |
| כָּל־אֲבֵלִֽים | כל + אבל.Adj.mp | all mourners |
Key notes: - שְׁנַת רָצֹון = "year of acceptance/favor" — direct Jubilee reference - רצון = "pleasure, favor, acceptance" — same word in Lev 1:3 for acceptable sacrifice - יֹום נָקָם = "day of vengeance" — Jesus STOPS reading here in Luke 4:19-20 - The "year of favor" and "day of vengeance" are PARALLEL — connected events

Jeremiah 34:17¶

|---|---|---|---|
| לָכֵן֮ כֹּה־אָמַ֣ר יְהוָה֒ | Therefore thus says YHWH | ||
| אַתֶּם֙ לֹֽא־שְׁמַעְתֶּ֣ם | you have not listened | ||

| נְאֻם־יְהוָ֗ה | oracle of YHWH | ||
| אֶל־הַחֶ֨רֶב֙ | to the sword | ||
| אֶל־הַדֶּ֣בֶר | to the pestilence | ||
| וְאֶל־הָרָעָ֔ב | and to the famine |
Key notes on Jer 34:15-17: - דרור appears THREE TIMES in these two verses - The ironic reversal: "You did not proclaim deror... so I proclaim deror FOR YOU — to the sword, pestilence, famine" - God uses the exact same verb קרא + דרור in both the positive (v.15) and ironic (v.17) senses - In v.17, God is the one who "proclaims liberty" — but it's liberty FROM His protection
