Hebrew Parsing — Raw Output

Daniel 12:4 (The Sealing Command)

Hebrew: וְאַתָּ֣ה דָֽנִיֵּ֗אל סְתֹ֧ם הַדְּבָרִ֛ים וַחֲתֹ֥ם הַסֵּ֖פֶר עַד־עֵ֣ת קֵ֑ץ יְשֹׁטְט֥וּ רַבִּ֖ים וְתִרְבֶּ֥ה הַדָּֽעַת׃

רַבִּ֖ים רב Adj.mp.Abs many
וְתִרְבֶּ֥ה רבה Verb.Qal.Impf.3fs be many / increase
הַדָּֽעַת דעת Noun.fs.Abs knowledge

Key Observations:

  1. TWO Qal Imperatives in sequence: סְתֹם (satham, "shut up") + חֲתֹם (chatham, "seal")
  2. satham = stop up, close up, make secret
  3. chatham = seal with a seal (more formal/permanent)
  4. The double command emphasizes totality: both CONCEAL and SEAL
  5. Temporal limit: עַד־עֵ֣ת קֵ֑ץ ('ad 'et qets) = "until the time of the end"
  6. The sealing is NOT permanent — it has an expiration point
  7. This temporal limit is what Rev 22:10 declares has arrived: "the time is at hand"

Daniel 8:26 (The Earlier Sealing Command)

Hebrew: וּמַרְאֵ֨ה הָעֶ֧רֶב וְהַבֹּ֛קֶר אֲשֶׁ֥ר נֶאֱמַ֖ר אֱמֶ֣ת ה֑וּא וְאַתָּה֙ סְתֹ֣ם הֶֽחָזֹ֔ון כִּ֖י לְיָמִ֥ים רַבִּֽים׃

לְיָמִ֥ים יום Noun.mp.Abs days
רַבִּֽים רב Adj.mp.Abs many

Key Observations:

  1. Only satham here (Qal Imperative 2ms) — "shut up the vision"
  2. chatham is NOT used in Dan 8:26, only in 12:4,9
  3. Dan 8:26 uses the weaker seal term; Dan 12:4 adds the stronger chatham
  4. Temporal reason: לְיָמִ֥ים רַבִּֽים (leyamim rabbim) = "for many days"
  5. More indefinite than Dan 12:4's 'ad 'et qets ("until the time of the end")
  6. Truth attestation: אֱמֶ֣ת ה֑וּא (emet hu) = "it is true/trustworthy"
  7. Parallels Rev 22:6: πιστοὶ καὶ ἀληθινοί (faithful and true)
  8. The vocabulary of trustworthiness bookends both the sealing (Dan 8:26) and unsealing (Rev 22:6)

Daniel 12:10 (Moral Fixedness)

Hebrew: יִ֠תְבָּֽרֲרוּ וְיִֽתְלַבְּנ֤וּ וְיִצָּֽרְפוּ֙ רַבִּ֔ים וְהִרְשִׁ֣יעוּ רְשָׁעִ֔ים וְלֹ֥א יָבִ֖ינוּ כָּל־רְשָׁעִ֑ים וְהַמַּשְׂכִּלִ֖ים יָבִֽינוּ׃

Hebrew Lemma Parsing Gloss
יִ֠תְבָּֽרֲרוּ ברר Verb.Hithpael.Impf.3mp purge/purify themselves
וְיִֽתְלַבְּנ֤וּ לבן Verb.Hithpael.Impf.3mp make themselves white
וְיִצָּֽרְפוּ֙ צרף Verb.Niphal.Impf.3mp be refined/tried
רַבִּ֔ים רב Adj.mp.Abs many
וְהִרְשִׁ֣יעוּ רשׁע Verb.Hiphil.Perf.3p act wickedly
רְשָׁעִ֔ים רשׁע Adj.mp.Abs wicked
וְלֹ֥א יָבִ֖ינוּ בין Neg + Verb.Qal.Impf.3mp will not understand

וְהַמַּשְׂכִּלִ֖ים שׂכל Verb.Hiphil.Ptcp.mp.Abs the wise/discerning
יָבִֽינוּ בין Verb.Qal.Impf.3mp will understand

Key Observations:

  1. Three purification verbs (Hithpael/Niphal — reflexive/passive stems):
  2. ברר (barar) — purge/purify (Hithpael = purify oneself)
  3. לבן (laben) — make white (Hithpael = make oneself white)
  4. צרף (tsaraph) — refine/try (Niphal = be refined)
  5. Moral division: wicked DO wickedly / wise DO understand
  6. The Hiphil of רשׁע (hir'shi'u) — causative: "act wickedly" or "declare guilty"
  7. The Hiphil participle of שׂכל (maskilim) — "the wise ones" / "those who have insight"

Parallel with Rev 22:11:

Daniel 12:10 Rev 22:11
"the wicked shall do wickedly" "he that is unjust, let him be unjust still"
[purified, made white, tried] "he that is righteous, let him be righteous still"
"none of the wicked shall understand" "he which is filthy, let him be filthy still"
"the wise shall understand" "he that is holy, let him be holy still"

Both passages present a two-class moral division following seal-related pronouncements: - Dan 12:10 follows the sealing command of Dan 12:4,9 - Rev 22:11 follows the UN-sealing command of Rev 22:10
