Question

What is the "little book open" in the angel's hand (Rev 10)? Who are the two witnesses who prophesy for 1260 days (Rev 11:1-14)? How does this interlude relate to Daniel's sealed and now-unsealed prophecies?

Structural Context

Rev 10:1–11:14 is an INTERLUDE between the sixth and seventh trumpets. The second woe (sixth trumpet) does not conclude until Rev 11:14 ("The second woe is past; and, behold, the third woe cometh quickly"). This entire section therefore falls WITHIN the sixth trumpet period — a critical placement for interpretation.

  8. G2411 hieron — "temple complex" (outer courts); 71 occurrences. ABSENT from Revelation entirely. The exclusive use of naos in Revelation is significant for Rev 11:1-2.

Cross-Testament Connections

  1. Ezekiel scroll-eating → Rev 10 book-eating: Ezek 2:8–3:3 (scroll written within and without, sweet as honey) → Rev 10:9-10 (little book sweet then bitter). The additions (bitterness) and modifications signal interpretive development.
  2. Zechariah's two olive trees → Rev 11:4 two witnesses: Zech 4:2-3,11-14 (two olive trees flanking lampstand = "the two anointed ones that stand by the Lord of the whole earth") → Rev 11:4 ("the two olive trees and the two candlesticks standing before the God of the earth"). Zechariah identifies them as Zerubbabel and Joshua; Revelation reapplies.
