Revelation 10:1-11 — The Mighty Angel and the Little Book

Rev 10:1 And I saw another mighty angel come down from heaven, clothed with a cloud: and a rainbow [was] upon his head, and his face [was] as it were the sun, and his feet as pillars of fire: Rev 10:2 And he had in his hand a little book open: and he set his right foot upon the sea, and [his] left [foot] on the earth, Rev 10:3 And cried with a loud voice, as [when] a lion roareth: and when he had cried, seven thunders uttered their voices. Rev 10:4 And when the seven thunders had uttered their voices, I was about to write: and I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Seal up those things which the seven thunders uttered, and write them not. Rev 10:5 And the angel which I saw stand upon the sea and upon the earth lifted up his hand to heaven, Rev 10:6 And sware by him that liveth for ever and ever, who created heaven, and the things that therein are, and the earth, and the things that therein are, and the sea, and the things which are therein, that there should be time no longer: Rev 10:7 But in the days of the voice of the seventh angel, when he shall begin to sound, the mystery of God should be finished, as he hath declared to his servants the prophets. Rev 10:8 And the voice which I heard from heaven spake unto me again, and said, Go [and] take the little book which is open in the hand of the angel which standeth upon the sea and upon the earth. Rev 10:9 And I went unto the angel, and said unto him, Give me the little book. And he said unto me, Take [it], and eat it up; and it shall make thy belly bitter, but it shall be in thy mouth sweet as honey. Rev 10:10 And I took the little book out of the angel's hand, and ate it up; and it was in my mouth sweet as honey: and as soon as I had eaten it, my belly was bitter. Rev 10:11 And he said unto me, Thou must prophesy again before many peoples, and nations, and tongues, and kings.

Revelation 11:1-14 — Measuring the Temple and the Two Witnesses

Rev 11:1 And there was given me a reed like unto a rod: and the angel stood, saying, Rise, and measure the temple of God, and the altar, and them that worship therein. Rev 11:3 And I will give [power] unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred [and] threescore days, clothed in sackcloth. Rev 11:4 These are the two olive trees, and the two candlesticks standing before the God of the earth. Rev 11:5 And if any man will hurt them, fire proceedeth out of their mouth, and devoureth their enemies: and if any man will hurt them, he must in this manner be killed. Rev 11:6 These have power to shut heaven, that it rain not in the days of their prophecy: and have power over waters to turn them to blood, and to smite the earth with all plagues, as often as they will. Rev 11:7 And when they shall have finished their testimony, the beast that ascendeth out of the bottomless pit shall make war against them, and shall overcome them, and kill them. Rev 11:8 And their dead bodies [shall lie] in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified. Rev 11:9 And they of the people and kindreds and tongues and nations shall see their dead bodies three days and an half, and shall not suffer their dead bodies to be put in graves. Rev 11:10 And they that dwell upon the earth shall rejoice over them, and make merry, and shall send gifts one to another; because these two prophets tormented them that dwelt on the earth. Rev 11:11 And after three days and an half the Spirit of life from God entered into them, and they stood upon their feet; and great fear fell upon them which saw them. Rev 11:12 And they heard a great voice from heaven saying unto them, Come up hither. And they ascended up to heaven in a cloud; and their enemies beheld them. Rev 11:13 And the same hour was there a great earthquake, and the tenth part of the city fell, and in the earthquake were slain of men seven thousand: and the remnant were affrighted, and gave glory to the God of heaven. Rev 11:14 The second woe is past; [and], behold, the third woe cometh quickly.

Daniel 12:1-13 — Sealed Prophecy, Time of the End

Dan 12:1 And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation [even] to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book. Dan 12:2 And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame [and] everlasting contempt. Dan 12:3 And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever. Dan 12:4 But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, [even] to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased. Dan 12:5 Then I Daniel looked, and, behold, there stood other two, the one on this side of the bank of the river, and the other on that side of the bank of the river. Dan 12:6 And [one] said to the man clothed in linen, which [was] upon the waters of the river, How long [shall it be to] the end of these wonders? Dan 12:7 And I heard the man clothed in linen, which [was] upon the waters of the river, when he held up his right hand and his left hand unto heaven, and sware by him that liveth for ever that [it shall be] for a time, times, and an half; and when he shall have accomplished to scatter the power of the holy people, all these [things] shall be finished. Dan 12:8 And I heard, but I understood not: then said I, O my Lord, what [shall be] the end of these [things]? Dan 12:9 And he said, Go thy way, Daniel: for the words [are] closed up and sealed till the time of the end. Dan 12:10 Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand. Dan 12:11 And from the time [that] the daily [sacrifice] shall be taken away, and the abomination that maketh desolate set up, [there shall be] a thousand two hundred and ninety days. Dan 12:12 Blessed [is] he that waiteth, and cometh to the thousand three hundred and five and thirty days. Dan 12:13 But go thou thy way till the end [be]: for thou shalt rest, and stand in thy lot at the end of the days.

Ezekiel 2:8–3:14 — Eating the Scroll

Ezek 2:8 But thou, son of man, hear what I say unto thee; Be not thou rebellious like that rebellious house: open thy mouth, and eat that I give thee. Ezek 2:9 And when I looked, behold, an hand [was] sent unto me; and, lo, a roll of a book [was] therein; Ezek 2:10 And he spread it before me; and it [was] written within and without: and [there was] written therein lamentations, and mourning, and woe. Ezek 3:1 Moreover he said unto me, Son of man, eat that thou findest; eat this roll, and go speak unto the house of Israel. Ezek 3:2 So I opened my mouth, and he caused me to eat that roll. Ezek 3:3 And he said unto me, Son of man, cause thy belly to eat, and fill thy bowels with this roll that I give thee. Then did I eat [it]; and it was in my mouth as honey for sweetness. Ezek 3:4 And he said unto me, Son of man, go, get thee unto the house of Israel, and speak with my words unto them. Ezek 3:5 For thou [art] not sent to a people of a strange speech and of an hard language, [but] to the house of Israel; Ezek 3:6 Not to many people of a strange speech and of an hard language, whose words thou canst not understand. Surely, had I sent thee to them, they would have hearkened unto thee. Ezek 3:7 But the house of Israel will not hearken unto thee; for they will not hearken unto me: for all the house of Israel [are] impudent and hardhearted. Ezek 3:8 Behold, I have made thy face strong against their faces, and thy forehead strong against their foreheads. Ezek 3:9 As an adamant harder than flint have I made thy forehead: fear them not, neither be dismayed at their looks, though they [be] a rebellious house. Ezek 3:10 Moreover he said unto me, Son of man, all my words that I shall speak unto thee receive in thine heart, and hear with thine ears. Ezek 3:11 And go, get thee to them of the captivity, unto the children of thy people, and speak unto them, and tell them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; whether they will hear, or whether they will forbear. Ezek 3:12 Then the spirit took me up, and I heard behind me a voice of a great rushing, [saying], Blessed [be] the glory of the LORD from his place. Ezek 3:13 [I heard] also the noise of the wings of the living creatures that touched one another, and the noise of the wheels over against them, and a noise of a great rushing. Ezek 3:14 So the spirit lifted me up, and took me away, and I went in bitterness, in the heat of my spirit; but the hand of the LORD was strong upon me.

Zechariah 4:1-14 — Two Olive Trees and the Lampstand

Zech 4:1 And the angel that talked with me came again, and waked me, as a man that is wakened out of his sleep, Zech 4:2 And said unto me, What seest thou? And I said, I have looked, and behold a candlestick all [of] gold, with a bowl upon the top of it, and his seven lamps thereon, and seven pipes to the seven lamps, which [are] upon the top thereof: Zech 4:3 And two olive trees by it, one upon the right [side] of the bowl, and the other upon the left [side] thereof. Zech 4:4 So I answered and spake to the angel that talked with me, saying, What [are] these, my lord? Zech 4:5 Then the angel that talked with me answered and said unto me, Knowest thou not what these be? And I said, No, my lord. Zech 4:6 Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This [is] the word of the LORD unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts. Zech 4:7 Who [art] thou, O great mountain? before Zerubbabel [thou shalt become] a plain: and he shall bring forth the headstone [thereof with] shoutings, [crying], Grace, grace unto it. Zech 4:8 Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, Zech 4:9 The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this house; his hands shall also finish it; and thou shalt know that the LORD of hosts hath sent me unto you. Zech 4:10 For who hath despised the day of small things? for they shall rejoice, and shall see the plummet in the hand of Zerubbabel [with] those seven; they [are] the eyes of the LORD, which run to and fro through the whole earth. Zech 4:11 Then answered I, and said unto him, What [are] these two olive trees upon the right [side] of the candlestick and upon the left [side] thereof? Zech 4:12 And I answered again, and said unto him, What [be these] two olive branches which through the two golden pipes empty the golden [oil] out of themselves? Zech 4:13 And he answered me and said, Knowest thou not what these [be]? And I said, No, my lord. Zech 4:14 Then said he, These [are] the two anointed ones, that stand by the Lord of the whole earth.

Rev 11:16 And the four and twenty elders, which sat before God on their seats, fell upon their faces, and worshipped God, Rev 11:17 Saying, We give thee thanks, O Lord God Almighty, which art, and wast, and art to come; because thou hast taken to thee thy great power, and hast reigned. Rev 11:18 And the nations were angry, and thy wrath is come, and the time of the dead, that they should be judged, and that thou shouldest give reward unto thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and them that fear thy name, small and great; and shouldest destroy them which destroy the earth. Rev 11:19 And the temple of God was opened in heaven, and there was seen in his temple the ark of his testament: and there were lightnings, and voices, and thunderings, and an earthquake, and great hail.

Daniel 10:1-7 — The Heavenly Messenger (parallel to Rev 10:1)

Dan 10:1 In the third year of Cyrus king of Persia a thing was revealed unto Daniel, whose name was called Belteshazzar; and the thing [was] true, but the time appointed [was] long: and he understood the thing, and had understanding of the vision. Dan 10:2 In those days I Daniel was mourning three full weeks. Dan 10:4 And in the four and twentieth day of the first month, as I was by the side of the great river, which [is] Hiddekel; Dan 10:5 Then I lifted up mine eyes, and looked, and behold a certain man clothed in linen, whose loins [were] girded with fine gold of Uphaz: Dan 10:6 His body also [was] like the beryl, and his face as the appearance of lightning, and his eyes as lamps of fire, and his arms and his feet like in colour to polished brass, and the voice of his words like the voice of a multitude. Ezekiel 37:1-14 (context: Spirit of Life — parallel to Rev 11:11)

Ezek 37:5 Thus saith the Lord GOD unto these bones; Behold, I will cause breath to enter into you, and ye shall live: Ezek 37:9 Then said he unto me, Prophesy unto the wind, prophesy, son of man, and say to the wind, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe upon these slain, that they may live. Ezek 37:10 So I prophesied as he commanded me, and the breath came into them, and they lived, and stood up upon their feet, an exceeding great army.

Parallel to Rev 11:11: "the Spirit of life from God entered into them, and they stood upon their feet" — nearly identical language to Ezek 37:10.

Jeremiah 5:14 — God's Word as Fire (parallel to Rev 11:5)

Jer 5:14 Wherefore thus saith the LORD God of hosts, Because ye speak this word, behold, I will make my words in thy mouth fire, and this people wood, and it shall devour them.

Connection: Rev 11:5 "fire proceedeth out of their mouth" — the witnesses' fire is the Word of God, not literal fire.

Malachi 4:4-6 — Moses and Elijah Before the Day of the LORD

Mal 4:4 Remember ye the law of Moses my servant, which I commanded unto him in Horeb for all Israel, [with] the statutes and judgments. Mal 4:5 Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD: Mal 4:6 And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.

Connection: The last OT verses mention BOTH Moses (v.4) and Elijah (v.5) — the same two figures whose powers characterize the two witnesses of Rev 11:5-6.

Matthew 17:1-5 — The Transfiguration (Moses and Elijah appear)

Mat 17:1 And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into an high mountain apart, Mat 17:2 And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light. Mat 17:3 And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias talking with him. Mat 17:4 Then answered Peter, and said unto Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here: if thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias. Mat 17:5 While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.

Connection: Moses and Elijah are the ONLY two OT figures who appeared with the glorified Christ — supporting their identification as prototypes for the two witnesses.

1 Kings 19:10,14,18 — Elijah's 7000 Faithful (parallel to Rev 11:13)

1 Ki 19:10 And he said, I have been very jealous for the LORD God of hosts: for the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, [even] I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away. 1 Ki 19:18 Yet I have left [me] seven thousand in Israel, all the knees which have not bowed unto Baal, and every mouth which hath not kissed him.

Connection: Rev 11:13 "were slain of men seven thousand" — the SAME number as Elijah's faithful remnant, but inverted: in 1 Kings, 7000 are preserved; in Rev 11:13, 7000 are slain. The number echoes Elijah's narrative deliberately.

Zechariah 2:1-5 — Measuring Jerusalem (parallel to Rev 11:1-2)

Zech 2:1 I lifted up mine eyes again, and looked, and behold a man with a measuring line in his hand. Zech 2:2 Then said I, Whither goest thou? And he said unto me, To measure Jerusalem, to see what [is] the breadth thereof, and what [is] the length thereof. Zech 2:4 And said unto him, Run, speak to this young man, saying, Jerusalem shall be inhabited [as] towns without walls for the multitude of men and cattle therein: Zech 2:5 For I, saith the LORD, will be unto her a wall of fire round about, and will be the glory in the midst of her.

Connection: Measuring Jerusalem = God's protective claim on the city. The "wall of fire round about" parallels the protective function of measuring in Rev 11:1.

Romans 11:17-24 — Olive Tree Theology (context for Rev 11:4)

Rom 11:17 And if some of the branches be broken off, and thou, being a wild olive tree, wert graffed in among them, and with them partakest of the root and fatness of the olive tree; Rom 11:18 Boast not against the branches. But if thou boast, thou bearest not the root, but the root thee. Rom 11:24 For if thou wert cut out of the olive tree which is wild by nature, and wert graffed contrary to nature into a good olive tree: how much more shall these, which be the natural [branches], be graffed into their own olive tree?

Revelation 1:20 — Lampstands = Churches

Rev 1:20 The mystery of the seven stars which thou sawest in my right hand, and the seven golden candlesticks. The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches: and the seven candlesticks which thou sawest are the seven churches.

Connection: If lampstands = churches (Rev 1:20), then the two lampstands of Rev 11:4 = God's witnessing church in its dual capacity.

Revelation 1:13-16 — Christ Among the Lampstands (parallel features to Rev 10:1)

Rev 1:13 And in the midst of the seven candlesticks [one] like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle. Rev 1:14 His head and [his] hairs [were] white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes [were] as a flame of fire; Rev 1:15 And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters. Rev 1:16 And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp twoedged sword: and his countenance [was] as the sun shineth in his strength.

Connection: The mighty angel of Rev 10:1 shares features with both Christ (Rev 1:13-16: face as the sun, feet of fire) and the heavenly messenger of Daniel 10:5-6 (linen, face of lightning, feet of brass).

Revelation 17:8 — The Beast from the Abyss (same beast as Rev 11:7)

Rev 17:8 The beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and go into perdition: and they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet is.

Connection: The beast from the abyss at Rev 11:7 is the SAME beast as Rev 17:8 — both ascend from the bottomless pit (abyssos). This identifies the power that kills the two witnesses.

Revelation 13:5-7 — The Beast's 42 Months (parallel to Rev 11:2)

Rev 13:5 And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty [and] two months. Rev 13:6 And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, and them that dwell in heaven. Rev 13:7 And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations.

Connection: The 42 months of Rev 13:5 = the 42 months of Rev 11:2 = the 1260 days of Rev 11:3. The beast makes war with the saints (13:7) just as the beast from the abyss makes war with the two witnesses (11:7).

Ezekiel 2:1-7 — Commission Context (preceding the scroll-eating)

Ezek 2:1 And he said unto me, Son of man, stand upon thy feet, and I will speak unto thee. Ezek 2:2 And the spirit entered into me when he spake unto me, and set me upon my feet, that I heard him that spake unto me. Ezek 2:3 And he said unto me, Son of man, I send thee to the children of Israel, to a rebellious nation that hath rebelled against me: they and their fathers have transgressed against me, [even] unto this very day. Ezek 2:4 For [they are] impudent children and stiffhearted. I do send thee unto them; and thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD. Ezek 2:5 And they, whether they will hear, or whether they will forbear, (for they [are] a rebellious house,) yet shall know that there hath been a prophet among them. Ezek 2:6 And thou, son of man, be not afraid of them, neither be afraid of their words, though briers and thorns [be] with thee, and thou dost dwell among scorpions: be not afraid of their words, nor be dismayed at their looks, though they [be] a rebellious house. Ezek 2:7 And thou shalt speak my words unto them, whether they will hear, or whether they will forbear: for they [are] most rebellious.

Context: Ezekiel's prophetic commission precedes the scroll-eating of 2:8-3:3 — just as John's prophetic commission ("thou must prophesy again," Rev 10:11) follows his scroll-eating.

Revelation 9:13-14,20-21 — Sixth Trumpet Context (immediately precedes Rev 10)

Rev 9:13 And the sixth angel sounded, and I heard a voice from the four horns of the golden altar which is before God, Rev 9:14 Saying to the sixth angel which had the trumpet, Loose the four angels which are bound in the great river Euphrates. Rev 9:20 And the rest of the men which were not killed by these plagues yet repented not of the works of their hands, that they should not worship devils, and idols of gold, and silver, and brass, and stone, and of wood: which neither can see, nor hear, nor walk: Rev 9:21 Neither repented they of their murders, nor of their sorceries, nor of their fornication, nor of their thefts.

Context: The impenitence verdict of Rev 9:20-21 immediately precedes the interlude of Rev 10-11:14. The interlude responds to humanity's refusal to repent under the first six trumpets by: (1) renewing the prophetic commission (Rev 10:11), (2) measuring/protecting the true worshippers (Rev 11:1), and (3) providing witnesses who continue testimony even during oppression (Rev 11:3-12).

Revelation 15:5-8 — Temple Opened, Intercession Ceased (contrast with Rev 11:19)

Rev 15:5 And after that I looked, and, behold, the temple of the tabernacle of the testimony in heaven was opened: Rev 15:6 And the seven angels came out of the temple, having the seven plagues, clothed in pure and white linen, and having their breasts girded with golden girdles. Rev 15:7 And one of the four beasts gave unto the seven angels seven golden vials full of the wrath of God, who liveth for ever and ever. Rev 15:8 And the temple was filled with smoke from the glory of God, and from his power; and no man was able to enter into the temple, till the seven plagues of the seven angels were fulfilled.

Connection: Rev 11:19 (temple opened, ark visible) and Rev 15:5-8 (temple opened, bowls distributed) are structurally parallel. Both involve the heavenly temple opening — but 11:19 reveals the ark (covenant fidelity), while 15:8 fills with smoke (judgment exclusion). Rev 15:8's "no man was able to enter" marks the end of intercession that the trumpet series operated within.

Psalm 19:10 — Sweeter Than Honey (background for Rev 10:9-10)

Psa 19:10 More to be desired [are they] than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.

Psalm 119:103 — Sweeter Than Honey

Psa 119:103 How sweet are thy words unto my taste! [yea, sweeter] than honey to my mouth!

Connection: The sweetness of God's word is a standard OT metaphor (Psa 19:10; 119:103). Ezekiel's scroll was "as honey for sweetness" (Ezek 3:3). Rev 10:9's sweetness continues this tradition — the prophetic word is initially delightful. The ADDITION of bitterness in Rev 10:10 goes beyond Ezekiel, signifying that the message, once internalized, brings painful experience.

Numbers 14:14 — Cloud and Pillar of Fire (background for Rev 10:1)

Num 14:14 And they will tell [it] to the inhabitants of this land: [for] they have heard that thou LORD [art] among this people, that thou LORD art seen face to face, and [that] thy cloud standeth over them, and [that] thou goest before them, by day time in a pillar of a cloud, and in a pillar of fire by night.

Connection: The angel of Rev 10:1 "clothed with a cloud" with "feet as pillars of fire" combines the two Exodus theophany elements: cloud by day, fire by night. This divine-presence imagery cloaks the angel in God's own manifestation marks.

Joshua 6:4-5 — Seven Trumpets at Jericho (structural parallel)

Jos 6:4 And seven priests shall bear before the ark seven trumpets of rams' horns: and the seventh day ye shall compass the city seven times, and the priests shall blow with the trumpets. Jos 6:5 And it shall come to pass, that when they make a long [blast] with the ram's horn, [and] when ye hear the sound of the trumpet, all the people shall shout with a great shout; and the wall of the city shall fall down flat, and the people shall ascend up every man straight before him.

Connection: Seven trumpets at Jericho → seven trumpets in Revelation. At the seventh trumpet, the walls fall (judgment). Rev 10:7 announces that "in the days of the voice of the seventh angel, when he shall begin to sound, the mystery of God should be finished."

Daniel 12:5-7 — The Oath Scene (direct parallel to Rev 10:5-6)

The Dan 12:5-7 and Rev 10:5-6 parallel is among the strongest in this study:

Feature Daniel 12:5-7 Revelation 10:5-6
Setting By a river (Hiddekel/Tigris) Straddling sea and earth
Figure Man clothed in linen upon the waters Angel standing on sea and earth
Gesture Held up BOTH hands to heaven Lifted up his hand to heaven
Oath formula "sware by him that liveth for ever" "sware by him that liveth for ever and ever"
Time reference "time, times, and an half" "time shall be no longer" (chronos ouketi)
Content Duration of the prophetic period End of the prophetic delay
Response Daniel "understood not" (12:8) John told to eat the book and prophesy

The Rev 10 scene is a deliberate echo and REVERSAL of Daniel 12: where Daniel was told the duration would be 3.5 times, John is told the delay is OVER. Where Daniel was told to seal the book, John holds a book that is OPEN. Where Daniel did not understand, John is commissioned to PROPHESY.

Revelation 4:1 — "Come Up Hither" (parallel to Rev 11:12)

Rev 4:1 After this I looked, and, behold, a door [was] opened in heaven: and the first voice which I heard [was] as it were of a trumpet talking with me; which said, Come up hither, and I will shew thee things which must be hereafter.

Connection: The "Come up hither" invitation appears in both Rev 4:1 (to John, initiating the throne-room vision) and Rev 11:12 (to the resurrected witnesses, who ascend to heaven in a cloud). The same divine invitation brings observers into God's presence.

2 Kings 2:11 — Elijah's Ascension (parallel to Rev 11:12)

2Ki 2:11 And it came to pass, as they still went on, and talked, that, behold, [there appeared] a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, and parted them both asunder; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.

Connection: Elijah ascended to heaven (2Ki 2:11); the two witnesses (who exercise Elijah's powers) also "ascended up to heaven in a cloud" (Rev 11:12). The Elijah parallel extends even to the manner of departure.

Jeremiah 23:15 — Wormwood and False Prophecy (background for Rev 10:10 bitterness)

Jer 23:15 Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts concerning the prophets; Behold, I will feed them with wormwood, and make them drink the water of gall: for from the prophets of Jerusalem is profaneness gone forth into all the land.

Connection: Bitterness/wormwood is associated with false prophecy and prophetic judgment. The bitterness in John's belly after eating the little book (Rev 10:10) may connect to the painful reality of the prophetic message — the word is sweet to receive but brings bitter experience when its full implications are understood.

Ephesians 3:3-6 — The Mystery of God Revealed

Eph 3:3 How that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery; (as I wrote afore in few words, Eph 3:4 Whereby, when ye read, ye may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ) Eph 3:5 Which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit; Eph 3:6 That the Gentiles should be fellowheirs, and of the same body, and partakers of his promise in Christ by the gospel:

Connection: The "mystery of God" (Rev 10:7) that "should be finished" at the seventh trumpet. Paul identifies the mystery as the gospel's inclusion of Gentiles. The historical/prophetic mystery that God "declared to his servants the prophets" reaches its completion.

Revelation 6:9-10 — Martyrs Cry "How Long?" (context for witness testimony)

Rev 6:9 And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held: Rev 6:10 And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth?

Connection: The slain martyrs (6:9-10) ask "How long?" — a question about prophetic timing. The angel of Rev 10:6 answers: "time shall be no longer" / "there shall be no more delay." The two witnesses of Rev 11 continue the martyrological witness: they testify, are killed (11:7), and are vindicated by resurrection (11:11) — completing the pattern the fifth-seal martyrs initiated.
