Key: egeneto (ginomai, G1096, Aorist Middle Indicative 3S) = "was made/came into being." The Sabbath "was made" (past, completed action) "on account of" (dia + accusative = for the sake of) "the man" (ton anthropon -- generic/universal article, "mankind"). The anthropos is articular (ton), indicating the class "humanity" rather than a specific individual.

Key: sabbatismos (G4520) is a hapax legomenon in the NT (occurs only here). The -ismos suffix denotes the ACT or PRACTICE of sabbath-keeping (cf. baptismos = act of baptizing). The verb apoleipetai (Present Passive Indicative) = "is left remaining" -- present tense indicating ongoing state. The author deliberately chose sabbatismos over katapausis (G2663, "rest," used in vv. 1, 3, 5, 8, 10, 11) to make a specific point about Sabbath observance.

Key: huperhorao (G5237) is also a hapax legomenon -- "having overlooked/winked at." God's previous posture toward ignorance (agnoia, G52) was to overlook it. The "now" (ta nun) marks a temporal shift: NOW God commands ALL men EVERYWHERE to repent (metanoein, Present Active Infinitive -- ongoing action). The universal scope (pantas pantachou = "all everywhere") establishes graduated accountability: what was overlooked in ignorance is now commanded upon revelation.

sabbaton sabbaton G4521 N-GPN Gen Pl N of sabbaths

Key: The triad heorte-neomenia-sabbaton (feast-new moon-sabbaths) appears in this exact pattern in the OT ceremonial calendar: 2 Chronicles 2:4; 8:13; 31:3; Ezekiel 45:17; Hosea 2:11. In every OT occurrence, this triad describes the annual festival system (yearly/monthly/weekly ceremonial observances), NOT the Decalogue Sabbath. The genitive plural sabbaton here follows the LXX pattern for ceremonial sabbaths. Paul's v.17 explains: "Which are a shadow (skia, G4639) of things to come" -- identifying these as the typological, forward-pointing ceremonial observances.
