Significance¶
Distinguished from ζῷον (zōon, G2226) — the "living creatures" around God's throne (Rev 4:6-9). Therion is consistently pejorative — a dangerous, wild, predatory animal. Its use for the powers of Rev 13 and 17 marks them as destructive and opposed to God.
G2768 — κέρας (keras) — Horn¶
Original: κέρας Transliteration: keras Part of Speech: Neuter noun Definition: A horn (literally or figuratively) BLB Count: 11 NT occurrences
Translations¶

LXX Connection¶
Greek keras translates Aramaic קֶרֶן (qeren, H7162) in Daniel. This is the primary linguistic bridge: Dan 7:7-24 (ten horns) → Rev 13:1 (ten horns) — identical Greek term.
G4750 — στόμα (stoma) — Mouth¶
Original: στόμα Transliteration: stoma Part of Speech: Neuter noun Definition: The mouth (as if a gash in the face) BLB Count: 79 occurrences
Key Usage in Revelation¶

- Rev 2:16 — sword of his mouth
- Rev 3:16 — spew out of my mouth
- Rev 12:15-16 — serpent casts water from his mouth
- Rev 13:2 — mouth as the mouth of a lion
- Rev 13:5 — given a mouth speaking great things (στόμα λαλοῦν μεγάλα)
- Rev 14:5 — no guile in their mouth
Critical Parallel: Dan 7:8 LXX ↔ Rev 13:5¶
The phrase στόμα λαλοῦν μεγάλα (stoma laloun megala) is IDENTICAL in Dan 7:8 (LXX/Theodotion) and Rev 13:5. This proves literary dependence and same-referent identification.

- "the hour of his judgment IS COME"
- ἦλθεν = aorist indicative of ἔρχομαι = "has come/arrived" (completed action)
- This announces the COMMENCEMENT of judgment, not a future prospect
Revelation Occurrences¶

- Rev 16:7 — "true and righteous are thy judgments"
- Rev 18:10 — "in one hour is thy judgment come"

LXX Connection¶
κρίσις translates Hebrew מִשְׁפָּט (mishpat) — the standard OT term for verdict, judgment, justice. Dan 7:10 LXX uses κρίσις for the judgment scene. Rev 14:7 announces the commencement of the Dan 7:9-10 judgment.

Significance¶
Revelation frames the cosmic conflict as a contest of worship: proskyneō to the Creator (14:7) vs. proskyneō to the beast (13:4,12,15; 14:9,11). The verb appears more in Revelation than in any other NT book.
G5480 — χάραγμα (charagma) — Mark¶

Significance¶
8 of 9 NT uses are in Revelation, all referring to the beast's mark. Contrasts with the "seal" (σφραγίς, G4973) of God — Rev 7:2-3; 9:4. The mark/seal opposition defines the two sides in the final conflict.
G1504 — εἰκών (eikōn) — Image¶
Original: εἰκών Transliteration: eikōn Part of Speech: Feminine noun Definition: A likeness, representation, statue, profile BLB Count: 23 occurrences
Key Revelation Occurrences¶
- Rev 13:14(x2) — "make an image to the beast"
- Rev 13:15(x3) — image given breath, speaks, causes death
- Rev 14:9, 11 — warning against worshiping beast "and his image"
- Rev 15:2; 16:2; 19:20; 20:4 — subsequent references
Other NT Uses¶
- Matt 22:20/Mark 12:16/Luke 20:24 — "Whose image is this?" (Caesar's coin)
- Rom 1:23 — changed glory of God into an image
- Col 1:15 — Christ is the "image of the invisible God"
- Heb 10:1 — the law has a shadow, not the very image
Daniel 3 Connection¶
Though the Daniel 3 narrative uses the Hebrew צֶלֶם (tselem) rather than eikōn in the original, the LXX translates it with εἰκών. The image of Nebuchadnezzar (Dan 3) requiring universal worship under penalty of death is the closest OT parallel to Rev 13:14-15.
G5281 — ὑπομονή (hypomonē) — Patience/Endurance¶
Original: ὑπομονή Transliteration: hypomonē Part of Speech: Feminine noun Definition: Cheerful (or hopeful) endurance, constancy, perseverance BLB Count: 32 occurrences

- Rev 13:10 — "Here is the patience and the faith of the saints"
- Rev 14:12 — "Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus"
Significance¶
The identical phrase "here is the patience" (Ὧδε ἡ ὑπομονή) links Rev 13:10 to Rev 14:12, connecting the response to beast persecution (ch.13) with the saints' identity (ch.14). The saints are defined by endurance under pressure, not passive waiting.
G4102 — πίστις (pistis) — Faith¶
Original: πίστις Transliteration: pistis Part of Speech: Feminine noun Definition: Persuasion, credence, moral conviction of religious truth BLB Count: 244 occurrences (most used noun for theological concept in NT)

- Genitive Ἰησοῦ can be objective ("faith IN Jesus") or subjective ("Jesus's own faith/faithfulness")
- Parallel structure with τὰς ἐντολὰς τοῦ Θεοῦ ("commandments OF God" = commandments given by God) suggests subjective reading
Revelation Occurrences¶

- Rev 13:6 — "opened his mouth in blasphemy against God" (εἰς βλασφημίας πρὸς τὸν Θεόν)
- Rev 17:3 — beast "full of names of blasphemy"
Significance¶
Blasphemy is the defining characteristic of the beast — it is inscribed on its heads (13:1), pours from its mouth (13:5-6), and covers its body (17:3). This parallels Dan 7:25: "speak great words against the Most High."
G4098 — πίπτω (piptō) — Fall¶

- Rev 14:17 — another angel with sharp sickle
- Rev 14:18(x2) — "Thrust in thy sharp sickle"
- Rev 14:19 — angel thrust in his sickle
Significance¶
7 of 8 NT uses are in Rev 14:14-19 (the harvest scene). The only other use is Mark 4:29, also in a harvest context. The OT source is Joel 3:13 (Hebrew: מַגָּל maggal, H4038): "Put ye in the sickle, for the harvest is ripe." Rev 14 is the eschatological fulfillment of Joel's harvest imagery.
G2326 — θερισμός (therismos) — Harvest¶
Original: θερισμός Transliteration: therismos Part of Speech: Masculine noun Definition: Reaping, the crop, harvest BLB Count: 13 occurrences
Key Occurrences¶
- Matt 9:37-38 — "The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few"
- Matt 13:30 — "Let both grow together until the harvest"
- Matt 13:39 — "The harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels"
- Mark 4:29 — "putteth in the sickle, because the harvest is come"

- John 4:35 — "the fields are white already to harvest"
- Rev 14:15 — "the harvest of the earth is ripe" (ὁ θερισμὸς τῆς γῆς)
Significance¶
Jesus explicitly identified "the harvest" as "the end of the world" (Matt 13:39). Rev 14:15's "harvest of the earth is ripe" is therefore the eschatological harvest = the Second Coming. The dual harvest (grain, vv.14-16; grapes, vv.17-20) parallels Jesus' wheat-and-tares parable (Matt 13:30).
