DAN 9:24 — Seventy Weeks Determined

Hebrew: שָׁבֻעִים שִׁבְעִים נֶחְתַּךְ עַל־עַמְּךָ וְעַל־עִיר קָדְשֶׁךָ

Key words: - שָׁבֻעִים (shavuim) — שׁבוע — Noun mp Abs — "weeks" (lit. "sevens") - שִׁבְעִים (shivim) — שׁבע — Noun mp Abs — "seventy" - נֶחְתַּךְ (nechtak) — חתך — Verb Niphal Perfect 3ms — "is/has been determined/cut off/decreed"

The six infinitives of purpose: 1. לְכַלֵּא הַפֶּשַׁע — Piel Infinitive Construct — "to finish/restrain the transgression" 2. לְהָתֵם חַטָּאת — Hiphil Infinitive Construct — "to seal up/make an end of sins" 3. לְכַפֵּר עָוֹן — Piel Infinitive Construct — "to make atonement for iniquity" 4. לְהָבִיא צֶדֶק עֹלָמִים — Hiphil Infinitive Construct — "to bring in everlasting righteousness" 5. לַחְתֹּם חָזוֹן וְנָבִיא — Qal Infinitive Construct — "to seal up vision and prophet" 6. לִמְשֹׁחַ קֹדֶשׁ קָדָשִׁים — Qal Infinitive Construct — "to anoint the most holy"

SIGNIFICANCE: The verb nechtak (Niphal of chatak) means "to be determined/decreed/cut off." The 70 weeks are "determined" (decreed as a fixed period) upon Daniel's people and holy city. The six infinitives describe what must be accomplished within this period — all pointing to Messianic atonement (finishing transgression, making end of sins, atonement for iniquity, everlasting righteousness). These were accomplished in Christ's ministry and death, not in a future tribulation period.

DAN 9:25 — Until Messiah the Prince

Hebrew: מִן־מֹצָא דָבָר לְהָשִׁיב וְלִבְנוֹת יְרוּשָׁלִַם עַד־מָשִׁיחַ נָגִיד שָׁבֻעִים שִׁבְעָה וְשָׁבֻעִים שִׁשִּׁים וּשְׁנַיִם

Key words: - מִן־מֹצָא דָבָר — "from the going forth of the word/decree" - לְהָשִׁיב (lehashiv) — שׁוב — Hiphil Infinitive Construct — "to restore/cause to return" - לִבְנוֹת (livnot) — בנה — Qal Infinitive Construct — "to build" - עַד (ad) — Preposition — "unto/until" - מָשִׁיחַ (mashiach) — Noun ms Abs — "anointed one/Messiah" - נָגִיד (nagid) — Noun ms Abs — "prince/leader" - שָׁבֻעִים שִׁבְעָה — "seven weeks" - וְשָׁבֻעִים שִׁשִּׁים וּשְׁנַיִם — "and sixty-two weeks" - תָּשׁוּב (tashuv) — שׁוב — Qal Imperfect 3fs — "shall return/be restored" - וְנִבְנְתָה (venivnetah) — בנה — Niphal Perfect 3fs — "and shall be built"

SIGNIFICANCE: The text specifies continuous time: 7 weeks + 62 weeks = 69 weeks from the decree to Messiah the Prince. No gap is mentioned between the 69th and 70th week. The succession language mirrors Dan 2:39's "after thee" — explicitly sequential.

DAN 2:39 — Kingdom Succession (Aramaic)

Aramaic: וּבָתְרָךְ תְּקוּם מַלְכוּ אָחֳרִי אֲרַעא מִנָּךְ וּמַלְכוּ תְלִיתָאָה אָחֳרִי דִּי נְחָשָׁא דִּי תִשְׁלַט בְּכָל־אַרְעָא

Key words: - וּבָתְרָךְ (u-vatrakH) — באתר — Noun ms Abs + 2ms suffix — "and after thee" (TEMPORAL SUCCESSION — explicit) - תְּקוּם (tequm) — קום — Peal Imperfect 3fs — "shall arise/stand up" - מַלְכוּ (malku) — Noun fs Abs — "kingdom" - אָחֳרִי (achori) — Adjective fs Abs — "another" - אֲרַעא (ar'a) — Noun fs Abs — "earth" (i.e., inferior/earthward) - מִנָּךְ (minnaKH) — Preposition + 2ms — "from/than you" (inferior to you) - תְלִיתָאָה (telitaya) — Adjective fs Abs — "third" (ORDINAL — explicitly numbered) - נְחָשָׁא (nechasha) — Noun ms — "copper/bronze" - תִשְׁלַט (tishlat) — שׁלט — Peal Imperfect 3fs — "shall rule" - בְּכָל־אַרְעָא (bekhol ar'a) — "over all the earth"

SIGNIFICANCE: The succession language is explicit and gap-free: "after thee" (u-vatrakH) establishes temporal sequence. The third kingdom is explicitly numbered (telitaya). The fourth follows in the next verse. Daniel 8:20-21 names the second as Medo-Persia and the third as Greece. No gap is stated anywhere in the text. The dispensational gap theory must be imposed from outside the text.

DAN 7:25 — Time, Times, and Dividing of Time (Aramaic)

Aramaic: וּמִלִּין לְצַד עִלָּאָה יְמַלִּל וּלְקַדִּישֵׁי עֶלְיוֹנִין יְבַלֵּא וְיִסְבַּר לְהַשְׁנָיָה זִמְנִין וְדָת וְיִתְיַהֲבוּן בִּידֵהּ עַד־עִדָּן וְעִדָּנִין וּפְלַג עִדָּן

Key words: - יְמַלִּל (yemalil) — מלל — Pael Imperfect 3ms — "shall speak" (arrogant speech) - לְצַד עִלָּאָה — "against the side of the Most High" (opposition to God) - יְבַלֵּא (yevale) — בלה — Pael Imperfect 3ms — "shall wear out" (the saints) - יִסְבַּר (yisbar) — סבר — Peal Imperfect 3ms — "shall intend/think" (attempt/presume) - לְהַשְׁנָיָה (lehashnyah) — שׁנה — Hafel Infinitive Construct — "to change/alter" - זִמְנִין (zimnin) — זמן — Noun mp Abs — "times/appointed times" - וְדָת (vedat) — דת — Noun fs Abs — "law" - עַד (ad) — Preposition — "until" - עִדָּן (iddan) — עדן — Noun ms Abs — "time" (a fixed period) - וְעִדָּנִין (ve-iddanin) — Noun mp Abs — "times" (plural = two) - וּפְלַג עִדָּן (u-felag iddan) — "and half a time"

Total: 1 + 2 + 0.5 = 3.5 "times" (= 3.5 years = 42 months = 1260 days)

SIGNIFICANCE: The same time period appears in multiple forms throughout Daniel and Revelation: - Dan 7:25 — "time, times, dividing of time" (Aramaic: iddan) - Dan 12:7 — "time, times, and half" (Hebrew: mo'ed) - Rev 11:2 — "42 months" - Rev 11:3 — "1260 days" - Rev 12:6 — "1260 days" - Rev 12:14 — "time, times, half a time" - Rev 13:5 — "42 months"

This precise mathematical equivalence (42 months = 1260 days = 3.5 years = time, times, half a time) demonstrates that these are specific, calculated time periods with intended referents — not timeless symbols. Idealism cannot account for why the same period is expressed in four different but mathematically equivalent forms if no concrete duration is intended.
