Daniel 2 (Full Chapter -- Image Vision)¶
Dan 2:20-23 (Sovereignty Hymn) Daniel answered and said, Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever: for wisdom and might are his: And he changeth the times and the seasons: he removeth kings, and setteth up kings: he giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding: He revealeth the deep and secret things: he knoweth what is in the darkness, and the light dwelleth with him. I thank thee, and praise thee, O thou God of my fathers, who hast given me wisdom and might, and hast made known unto me now what we desired of thee.
Dan 2:28 But there is a God in heaven that revealeth secrets, and maketh known to the king Nebuchadnezzar what shall be in the latter days.
Dan 2:31-35 (The Image) Thou, O king, sawest, and behold a great image. This great image, whose brightness was excellent, stood before thee; and the form thereof was terrible. This image's head was of fine gold, his breast and his arms of silver, his belly and his thighs of brass, His legs of iron, his feet part of iron and part of clay. Thou sawest till that a stone was cut out without hands, which smote the image upon his feet that were of iron and clay, and brake them to pieces. Then was the iron, the clay, the brass, the silver, and the gold, broken to pieces together, and became like the chaff of the summer threshingfloors; and the wind carried them away, that no place was found for them: and the stone that smote the image became a great mountain, and filled the whole earth.
Dan 2:36-45 (The Interpretation) Thou, O king, art a king of kings: for the God of heaven hath given thee a kingdom, power, and strength, and glory. And wheresoever the children of men dwell, the beasts of the field and the fowls of the heaven hath he given into thine hand, and hath made thee ruler over them all. Thou art this head of gold. And after thee shall arise another kingdom inferior to thee, and another third kingdom of brass, which shall bear rule over all the earth. And the fourth kingdom shall be strong as iron: forasmuch as iron breaketh in pieces and subdueth all things: and as iron that breaketh all these, shall it break in pieces and bruise. And whereas thou sawest the feet and toes, part of potters' clay, and part of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; but there shall be in it of the strength of the iron, forasmuch as thou sawest the iron mixed with miry clay. And as the toes of the feet were part of iron, and part of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong, and partly broken. And whereas thou sawest iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men: but they shall not cleave one to another, even as iron is not mixed with clay. And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever. Forasmuch as thou sawest that the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it brake in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold; the great God hath made known to the king what shall come to pass hereafter: and the dream is certain, and the interpretation thereof sure.
Key vocabulary: anteh-hu (2:38, E-tier ID of Babylon); batarakh/u-vatrakh (2:39, "after thee" = no-gap succession); d'qaq (2:40, break in pieces = same verb as Dan 7:7,19,23); ka-chadah (2:35, "together" = simultaneous destruction); di la bidayin (2:34,45, "without hands" = supernatural).
Daniel 3 (Key Sections -- Image Worship / Rev 13 Parallel)¶
Dan 3:1 Nebuchadnezzar the king made an image of gold, whose height was threescore cubits, and the breadth thereof six cubits: he set it up in the plain of Dura, in the province of Babylon. Dan 3:4-6 Then an herald cried aloud, To you it is commanded, O people, nations, and languages, That at what time ye hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, dulcimer, and all kinds of musick, ye fall down and worship the golden image... And whoso falleth not down and worshippeth shall the same hour be cast into the midst of a burning fiery furnace. Dan 3:16-18 Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, answered and said to the king, O Nebuchadnezzar, we are not careful to answer thee in this matter. If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king. But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up. Dan 3:25 Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.
Five-point parallel with Rev 13:14-15: (1) Image created; (2) Universal worship commanded; (3) Death for refusal; (4) Faithful remnant refuses; (5) God vindicates.
Daniel 4:16,23,25,32 ('iddan = year evidence)¶
Dan 4:16 Let his heart be changed from man's, and let a beast's heart be given unto him; and let seven times ('iddanin) pass over him. Dan 4:25 They shall drive thee from men... and seven times ('iddanin) shall pass over thee, till thou know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men. Dan 4:32 And they shall drive thee from men... and seven times ('iddanin) shall pass over thee.
Key: BDB explicitly glosses 'iddan = year here: "seven 'iddanin = seven years." The same word in Dan 7:25.
Daniel 7 (Full Chapter -- Four Beasts and Judgment)¶
Dan 7:1-8 (Vision) In the first year of Belshazzar king of Babylon Daniel had a dream and visions of his head upon his bed... Daniel spake and said, I saw in my vision by night, and, behold, the four winds of the heaven strove upon the great sea. And four great beasts came up from the sea, diverse one from another. The first was like a lion, and had eagle's wings... And behold another beast, a second, like to a bear, and it raised up itself on one side, and it had three ribs in the mouth of it... After this I beheld, and lo another, like a leopard, which had upon the back of it four wings of a fowl; the beast had also four heads; and dominion was given to it. After this I saw in the night visions, and behold a fourth beast, dreadful and terrible, and strong exceedingly; and it had great iron teeth: it devoured and brake in pieces, and stamped the residue with the feet of it: and it was diverse from all the beasts that were before it; and it had ten horns. I considered the horns, and, behold, there came up among them another little horn, before whom there were three of the first horns plucked up by the roots: and, behold, in this horn were eyes like the eyes of man, and a mouth speaking great things.
Dan 7:9-14 (Judgment Scene and Son of Man) I beheld till the thrones were cast down, and the Ancient of days did sit, whose garment was white as snow, and the hair of his head like the pure wool: his throne was like the fiery flame, and his wheels as burning fire. A fiery stream issued and came forth from before him: thousand thousands ministered unto him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him: the judgment was set, and the books were opened. I beheld then because of the voice of the great words which the horn spake: I beheld even till the beast was slain, and his body destroyed, and given to the burning flame. As concerning the rest of the beasts, they had their dominion taken away: yet their lives were prolonged for a season and time. I saw in the night visions, and, behold, one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him. And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed.
Dan 7:17-27 (Interpretation) These great beasts, which are four, are four kings, which shall arise out of the earth. But the saints of the most High shall take the kingdom, and possess the kingdom for ever, even for ever and ever... The fourth beast shall be the fourth kingdom upon earth, which shall be diverse from all kingdoms, and shall devour the whole earth, and shall tread it down, and break it in pieces. And the ten horns out of this kingdom are ten kings that shall arise: and another shall rise after them; and he shall be diverse from the first, and he shall subdue three kings. And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time. But the judgment shall sit, and they shall take away his dominion, to consume and to destroy it unto the end. And the kingdom and dominion, and the greatness of the kingdom under the whole heaven, shall be given to the people of the saints of the most High, whose kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and all dominions shall serve and obey him.
Nine little horn specifications from Dan 7: 1. Arises FROM the fourth beast/kingdom (7:8,24) 2. Arises AFTER the ten horns (7:24) 3. Different/diverse from the first (7:24) 4. Subdues three kings (7:8,20,24) 5. Eyes like the eyes of man (7:8) 6. Mouth speaking great things (7:8,20,25) 7. Wears out the saints (7:25) 8. Thinks to change times and law (7:25) 9. Given authority for time, times, half time (7:25)
Daniel 8 (Full Chapter -- Ram, Goat, and Little Horn)¶
Dan 8:1-14 (Vision) [Full text preserved in data gathering above] Key: Ram = Medo-Persia (8:20); Goat = Greece (8:21); Little horn = arises from one of the four divisions, grows "exceeding great" (gadal yether, surpassing both named empires). The horn attacks the "prince of the host" (sar ha-tsaba), removes the daily (tamid), and casts down the sanctuary. The Q&A (8:13-14) asks "how long?" and receives: "Unto 2300 evening-mornings; then shall the sanctuary be vindicated (nitsdaq)."
Dan 8:15-27 (Interpretation) Gabriel explains the ram (Medo-Persia, 8:20), the goat (Greece, 8:21), the four horns (four kingdoms, 8:22), and the horn of fierce countenance (8:23-25). But the vision of the evening-morning (mar'eh ha-erev ve-ha-boqer) is told to be "true" yet Daniel is told to "shut up the vision" because "it is for many days" (8:26). Daniel faints and "none understood it" (8:27).
Dan 8:14 And he said unto me, Unto two thousand and three hundred days; then shall the sanctuary be cleansed.
Hebrew parsing confirms: nitsdaq = Niphal of tsadaq = "be declared righteous/vindicated" -- forensic, not ritual.
Daniel 9 (Full Chapter -- 70 Weeks)¶
Dan 9:1-19 (Daniel's Prayer) Daniel understands from Jeremiah that the 70-year captivity is nearly complete. His prayer confesses sin using the DOA vocabulary (pesha, chatta't, avon) and appeals to God's righteousness (tsidqah).
Dan 9:20-23 (Gabriel Returns) Whiles I was speaking in prayer, even the man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision at the beginning (ba-chazon ba-techillah), being caused to fly swiftly, touched me about the time of the evening oblation. And he informed me, and talked with me, and said, O Daniel, I am now come forth to give thee skill and understanding (lehaskilekha binah). At the beginning of thy supplications the commandment came forth, and I am come to shew thee; for thou art greatly beloved: therefore understand the matter, and consider the vision (habin ba-davar ve-haben ba-mar'eh).
Critical: haben ba-mar'eh ("understand the vision/appearance") uses the SAME two words as Dan 8:16 (habin... ha-mar'eh). This creates an inclusio: Gabriel was sent in 8:16 to make Daniel understand the mar'eh; Daniel fainted (8:27); now Gabriel returns to complete the task.
Dan 9:24-27 (The 70 Weeks) Seventy weeks are determined (nechtak, H2852, HAPAX = "cut off") upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression (pesha), and to make an end of sins (chatta'ot), and to make reconciliation for iniquity (avon), and to bring in everlasting righteousness (tsedeq olamim), and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy (qodesh qodashim). Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince (mashiach nagiyd) shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times. And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off (yikkareth), but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined (necheratsah). And he shall confirm (gabar, "make strong/prevail") the covenant with many (la-rabbim) for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease.
Key vocabulary: - chathak (9:24) = "cut off" (HAPAX) vs. charats (9:26,27) = "determine" -- authorial word choice signals 70 weeks "cut from" 2300 - DOA triad: pesha + chatta'ot + avon = Lev 16:21 - gabar beriyth vs. karath beriyth: gabar = "make strong/prevail" (not "make/cut" a new covenant) - la-rabbim echoes Isa 53:11-12 ("justify many," "bore the sin of many") - mashiach nagiyd: Messiah the Prince/Commander
Daniel 10-12 (Key Sections)¶
Dan 10:1-6 (Christophany) Then I lifted up mine eyes, and looked, and behold a certain man clothed in linen, whose loins were girded with fine gold of Uphaz: His body also was like the beryl, and his face as the appearance of lightning, and his eyes as lamps of fire, and his arms and his feet like in colour to polished brass, and the voice of his words like the voice of a multitude.
Six-point parallel with Rev 1:13-16: garment, golden girdle, eyes as fire, feet as brass, voice of multitude, face/countenance.
Dan 11:16 But he that cometh against him shall do according to his own will (kir'tsono), and none shall stand before him: and he shall stand in the glorious land. Dan 11:22 And with the arms of a flood shall they be overflown from before him, and shall be broken; yea, also the prince of the covenant (negiyd berith). Dan 11:31 And arms shall stand on his part, and they shall pollute the sanctuary of strength, and shall take away the daily (ha-tamid), and they shall place the abomination that maketh desolate (shiqquts shomem). Dan 11:36 And the king shall do according to his will (kir'tsono); and he shall exalt himself, and magnify himself above every god, and shall speak marvellous things against the God of gods, and shall prosper till the indignation (za'am) be accomplished: for that that is determined (necheratsah) shall be done. Dan 11:44-45 But tidings (shemu'ot) out of the east and out of the north shall trouble him: therefore he shall go forth with great fury to destroy, and utterly to make away many. And he shall plant the tabernacles of his palace between the seas in the glorious holy mountain; yet he shall come to his end, and none shall help him.
Dan 12:1-3 (Michael Stands, Resurrection) And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince (ha-sar ha-gadol) which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book. And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt (dera'on, HAPAX). And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness (matsdiqey ha-rabbim) as the stars for ever and ever.
Dan 12:4,9 (Sealed Until Time of the End) But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased... Go thy way, Daniel: for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end.
Dan 12:5-7 (Angel Oath Scene) Then I Daniel looked, and, behold, there stood other two, the one on this side of the bank of the river, and the other on that side... And one said to the man clothed in linen, which was upon the waters of the river, How long shall it be to the end of these wonders? And I heard the man clothed in linen, which was upon the waters of the river, when he held up his right hand and his left hand unto heaven, and sware by him that liveth for ever that it shall be for a time, times, and an half; and when he shall have accomplished to scatter the power of the holy people, all these things shall be finished.
Dan 12:10-13 Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried (tsaraph, barar, laban); but the wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand. And from the time that the daily (tamid) shall be taken away, and the abomination that maketh desolate set up, there shall be a thousand two hundred and ninety days. Blessed is he that waiteth, and cometh to the thousand three hundred and five and thirty days. But go thou thy way till the end be: for thou shalt rest, and stand in thy lot at the end of the days.
Day-Year Principle Foundation Verses¶
Numbers 14:34 After the number of the days in which ye searched the land, even forty days, each day for a year, shall ye bear your iniquities, even forty years, and ye shall know my breach of promise.
Ezekiel 4:6 And when thou hast accomplished them, lie again on thy right side, and thou shalt bear the iniquity of the house of Judah forty days: I have appointed thee each day for a year.
Daniel 10:2-3 In those days I Daniel was mourning three full weeks (shabu'im yamim, "weeks of days"). I ate no pleasant bread, neither came flesh nor wine in my mouth, neither did I anoint myself at all, till three whole weeks (yamim) were fulfilled.
Key: When Daniel means literal days, he adds the qualifier yamim ("days"). Dan 9:24 has shabu'im without yamim -- suggesting the "weeks" are NOT literal days but prophetic time units.
Covenant-Curse Connection¶
Deuteronomy 28:49-50 The LORD shall bring a nation against thee from far, from the end of the earth, as swift as the eagle flieth; a nation whose tongue thou shalt not understand; A nation of fierce countenance (az paniym), which shall not regard the person of the old, nor shew favour to the young.
Daniel 8:23 And in the latter time of their kingdom, when the transgressors are come to the full, a king of fierce countenance (az paniym), and understanding dark sentences, shall stand up.
Key: az paniym occurs ONLY in these two verses in the entire OT -- an exclusive construct chain linking the covenant-curse tradition of Deuteronomy to Daniel's horn.
Day of Atonement Triad¶
Leviticus 16:21 And Aaron shall lay both his hands upon the head of the live goat, and confess over him all the iniquities (avon) of the children of Israel, and all their transgressions (pesha) in all their sins (chatta'ot), putting them upon the head of the goat.
Daniel 9:24 Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people... to finish the transgression (pesha), and to make an end of sins (chatta'ot), and to make reconciliation for iniquity (avon), and to bring in everlasting righteousness.
Key: The SAME three sin categories appear in both -- the 70 weeks accomplish what the Day of Atonement typified.
NT Daniel Citations¶
Matthew 24:15 When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand.)
Mark 13:14 But when ye shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing (hestekota, MASCULINE participle for NEUTER bdelygma) where it ought not, (let him that readeth understand,) then let them that be in Judaea flee to the mountains.
2 Thessalonians 2:1-4,7-8 Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ... Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin (ho anthropos tes anomias) be revealed, the son of perdition; Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God... For the mystery of iniquity doth already work (to mysterion ede energeitai tes anomias): only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way. And then shall that Wicked (ho anomos) be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming.
Revelation 13:1-8 And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns... And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion... And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things (stoma laloun megala) and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty and two months. And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, and them that dwell in heaven. And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them.
Revelation 14:6-7,12 And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth... Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters. ... Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.
Revelation Parallels¶
Revelation 1:1 The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified (esemainen, G4591) it by his angel unto his servant John.
Revelation 1:13-16 (Christological merger of Dan 7:9 + Dan 10:5-6) And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle. His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow (= Dan 7:9); and his eyes were as a flame of fire (= Dan 10:6); And his feet like unto fine brass (= Dan 10:6); and his voice as the sound of many waters (= Dan 10:6).
Revelation 4:1-5 After this I looked, and, behold, a door was opened in heaven: and the first voice which I heard was as it were of a trumpet talking with me; which said, Come up hither, and I will shew thee things which must be hereafter. And immediately I was in the spirit: and, behold, a throne was set in heaven, and one sat on the throne. And he that sat was to look upon like a jasper and a sardine stone: and there was a rainbow round about the throne, in sight like unto an emerald. And round about the throne were four and twenty seats: and upon the seats I saw four and twenty elders sitting, clothed in white raiment; and they had on their heads crowns of gold. And out of the throne proceeded lightnings and thunderings and voices: and there were seven lamps of fire burning before the throne.
Revelation 5:1-14 And I saw in the right hand of him that sat on the throne a book written within and on the backside, sealed with seven seals. And I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, Who is worthy to open the book, and to loose the seals thereof?... And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book... And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne... stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes... And he came and took the book out of the right hand of him that sat upon the throne... And I beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne... and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands; Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing. And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth... heard I saying, Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, be unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever.
Nine-element reproduction of Dan 7:9-14: (1) Throne set = thrones placed (Dan 7:9); (2) Seated Judge = Ancient of Days sat (Dan 7:9); (3) White garments (4:4) = garment white as snow (Dan 7:9); (4) Fire from throne (4:5) = fiery flame (Dan 7:9-10); (5) Identical myriads formula (5:11 = Dan 7:10); (6) Books/scroll (5:1) = books opened (Dan 7:10); (7) Lamb approaches throne (5:7) = Son of Man approaches Ancient of Days (Dan 7:13); (8) Authority given (5:12) = dominion given (Dan 7:14); (9) Universal worship (5:13) = all peoples serve Him (Dan 7:14).
Revelation 11:19 And the temple of God was opened in heaven, and there was seen in his temple the ark of his testament: and there were lightnings, and voices, and thunderings, and an earthquake, and great hail.
Revelation 12:5-7 And she brought forth a man child, who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron: and her child was caught up (herpasthe, AORIST = completed past) unto God, and to his throne... And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon.
Revelation 22:10 And he saith unto me, Seal not the sayings of the prophecy of this book: for the time is at hand.
Sealed-to-unsealed arc: Dan 8:26 satham (shut up) -> Dan 12:4 satham + chatham (double seal) -> Rev 5:1 katasphragizo (intensified seal) -> Rev 10:2 eneogmenon (having been opened) -> Rev 22:10 me sphragises (do not seal).
Stone/Kingdom Parallels¶
Isaiah 8:14 And he shall be for a sanctuary; but for a stone of stumbling and for a rock of offence to both the houses of Israel. Isaiah 28:16 Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation. Matthew 21:42-44 The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner... And whosoever shall fall on this stone shall be broken: but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder (likmao -- same concept as Dan 2:44 d'qaq). 1 Peter 2:4-8 To whom coming, as unto a living stone... a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence. Acts 4:11 This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner.
Michael/Resurrection Convergence¶
1 Thessalonians 4:16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first.
John 5:25,28-29 Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live... Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.
Jude 1:9 Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee.
Convergence: Michael stands up (Dan 12:1) -> archangel's voice at resurrection (1 Thess 4:16) -> Son's voice raises dead (John 5:25,28) = Michael = Christ.
Sabbath-Law Identification for Dan 7:25¶
Exodus 20:8-11 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God... For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day.
Revelation 14:7 ...worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.
Revelation 14:12 Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.
Luke 23:56 And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments; and rested the sabbath day according to the commandment.
Isaiah 66:22-23 For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me... from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me.
Mark/Seal Contrast Framework¶
Revelation 7:1-3 ...Hurt not the earth, neither the sea, nor the trees, till we have sealed the servants of our God in their foreheads. Revelation 13:16-17 And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads. Revelation 14:1 And I looked, and, lo, a Lamb stood on the mount Sion, and with him an hundred forty and four thousand, having his Father's name written in their foreheads. Deuteronomy 6:6-8 And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart... And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes. Revelation 12:17 And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ. Revelation 19:10 ...for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.
Israel/Church Continuity (Counter-FUT)¶
Galatians 3:28-29 There is neither Jew nor Greek... for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise. Romans 9:6-8 For they are not all Israel, which are of Israel: Neither, because they are the seed of Abraham, are they all children... the children of the promise are counted for the seed. Romans 2:28-29 For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly... But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart. Ephesians 2:14-16 For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition. 1 Peter 2:9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people.
Creation Formula Comparison¶
Genesis 1:5 And the evening and the morning were the first day. Genesis 1:8 And the evening and the morning were the second day. Daniel 8:14 Unto two thousand and three hundred evening-morning (erev boqer). Daniel 8:26 And the vision of the evening and the morning (mar'eh ha-erev ve-ha-boqer) which was told is true.
Key: The erev-boqer formula in Dan 8:14,26 echoes the creation formula, suggesting DAY units (not evening and morning sacrifices counted separately).
70-Week Fulfillment Markers¶
Mark 1:15 The time is fulfilled (peplerotai ho kairos), and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel. Acts 10:38 How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power. Romans 15:8 Now I say that Jesus Christ was a minister of the circumcision for the truth of God, to confirm the promises made unto the fathers. Mark 10:45 For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many (lytron anti pollon). Mark 14:24 This is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many (to ekchynnomenon hyper pollon). Isaiah 53:11-12 By his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many (yatsdiq la-rabbim); for he shall bear their iniquities... he bare the sin of many (rabbim).
Key: la-rabbim ("for the many") in Dan 9:27 echoes Isa 53:11-12 and is fulfilled in Mark 10:45 and 14:24.
Sanctuary Compartmental Progression in Revelation¶
Rev 6:9 (Outer court) -- altar of sacrifice: "I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain" Rev 8:3-5 (Holy Place) -- golden altar of incense: "another angel came and stood at the altar, having a golden censer; and there was given unto him much incense" Rev 11:19 (Most Holy Place) -- ark of the covenant: "the temple of God was opened in heaven, and there was seen in his temple the ark of his testament" Rev 15:8 (No entry during judgment) -- "the temple was filled with smoke from the glory of God, and from his power; and no man was able to enter into the temple" (cf. Lev 16:17) Rev 21:22 (No temple in New Earth) -- "And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it."
Key: Revelation exclusively uses naos (G3485, inner shrine, 16x) and NEVER hieron (G2411, temple precincts).
Theophany Escalation Formula¶
Rev 4:5 "And out of the throne proceeded lightnings and thunderings and voices" Rev 8:5 "and there were voices, and thunderings, and lightnings, and an earthquake" Rev 11:19 "and there were lightnings, and voices, and thunderings, and an earthquake, and great hail" Rev 16:18-21 "and there were voices, and thunders, and lightnings; and there was a great earthquake... and there fell upon men a great hail"
Key: Each sequence adds elements, proving escalation and recapitulation -- overlapping time periods, not strictly sequential.
Seven-Expression Equivalence (1260 Days)¶
- 1260 days -- Rev 11:3; 12:6
- 42 months -- Rev 11:2; 13:5
- time, times, half a time -- Dan 7:25; 12:7; Rev 12:14
- 1290 days -- Dan 12:11
- 1335 days -- Dan 12:12
- 2300 evening-mornings -- Dan 8:14
- 70 weeks (490 days) -- Dan 9:24
Contextual differentiation: "42 months" = hostile activity; "1260 days" = preservation/witness; "time, times, half" = Danielic cosmic conflict framework.
Heavenly Sanctuary Typology (Hebrews 8-9)¶
Heb 8:1-2 Now of the things which we have spoken this is the sum: We have such an high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens; A minister of the sanctuary, and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, and not man. Heb 8:3-5 For every high priest is ordained to offer gifts and sacrifices: wherefore it is of necessity that this man have somewhat also to offer. For if he were on earth, he should not be a priest, seeing that there are priests that offer gifts according to the law: Who serve unto the example and shadow of heavenly things, as Moses was admonished of God when he was about to make the tabernacle: for, See, saith he, that thou make all things according to the pattern shewed to thee in the mount.
Heb 9:1-7 Then verily the first covenant had also ordinances of divine service, and a worldly sanctuary. For there was a tabernacle made; the first, wherein was the candlestick, and the table, and the shewbread; which is called the sanctuary. And after the second veil, the tabernacle which is called the Holiest of all; Which had the golden censer, and the ark of the covenant overlaid round about with gold... And over it the cherubims of glory shadowing the mercyseat... Now when these things were thus ordained, the priests went always into the first tabernacle, accomplishing the service of God. But into the second went the high priest alone once every year, not without blood, which he offered for himself, and for the errors of the people.
Heb 9:8-12 The Holy Ghost this signifying, that the way into the holiest of all was not yet made manifest, while as the first tabernacle was yet standing: Which was a figure for the time then present... But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building; Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.
Heb 9:23-28 It was therefore necessary that the patterns of things in the heavens should be purified with these; but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these. For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us: Nor yet that he should offer himself often, as the high priest entereth into the holy place every year with blood of others... And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.
Key: Heb 8:2 "the true tabernacle which the Lord pitched, and not man" + Heb 8:5 "the pattern" + Heb 9:24 "the holy places made with hands which are the figures of the true" = earthly sanctuary is a copy of the heavenly reality. This is the foundation for HIST reading Dan 8:14 as referring to the heavenly sanctuary.
Day of Atonement -- Levitical Source Texts¶
Lev 16:2 And the LORD said unto Moses... that he come not at all times into the holy place within the vail before the mercy seat, which is upon the ark; that he die not: for I will appear in the cloud upon the mercy seat. Lev 16:4 He shall put on the holy linen coat, and he shall have the linen breeches upon his flesh, and shall be girded with a linen girdle, and with the linen mitre shall he be attired: these are holy garments. Lev 16:12-13 And he shall take a censer full of burning coals of fire from off the altar before the LORD... And he shall put the incense upon the fire before the LORD, that the cloud of the incense may cover the mercy seat. Lev 16:16-17 And he shall make an atonement for the holy place, because of the uncleanness of the children of Israel, and because of their transgressions in all their sins... And there shall be no man in the tabernacle of the congregation when he goeth in to make an atonement in the holy place. Lev 16:21 And Aaron shall lay both his hands upon the head of the live goat, and confess over him all the iniquities of the children of Israel, and all their transgressions in all their sins, putting them upon the head of the goat. Lev 16:30 For on that day shall the priest make an atonement for you, to cleanse you, that ye may be clean from all your sins before the LORD.
Six DOA elements in Dan 7:9-14: (1) white garments = high priest's linen (Lev 16:4); (2) fire = DOA burning coals (Lev 16:12); (3) cloud = God's presence on mercy seat (Lev 16:2); (4) books opened = record examination; (5) Son of Man enters = high priest entering MHP; (6) no man shall be in the tabernacle (Lev 16:17 parallels Rev 15:8). DOA triad: pesha + chattat + avon in both Lev 16:21 and Dan 9:24.
Revelation 12 -- Woman, Dragon, Michael¶
Rev 12:1-7 And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars: And she being with child cried, travailing in birth, and pained to be delivered. And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads. And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born. And she brought forth a man child, who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron: and her child was caught up unto God, and to his throne. And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God, that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days. And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels. Rev 12:14 And to the woman were given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness, into her place, where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent. Rev 12:17 And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.
Key: Rev 12:5 uses two aorist verbs: eteken ("she brought forth," Aor Act Ind) and herpasthe ("was caught up," Aor Pass Ind) = Christ's birth and ascension as COMPLETED PAST events within Revelation's narrative. This breaks the futurist entirely-future reading of Rev 4-22. Rev 12:17 defines the remnant by two marks: commandments of God + testimony of Jesus.
Revelation 17 -- Harlot and Ten Horns¶
Rev 17:3-8 So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns. And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour... having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations... And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH. And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints... The beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and go into perdition (apoleia). Rev 17:9-16 And here is the mind which hath wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains... And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast... These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them. Rev 17:15 And he saith unto me, The waters which thou sawest, where the whore sitteth, are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues.
Key: Rev 17:12 "ten horns are ten kings" -- angel gives explicit symbolic equation matching Dan 7:24. Rev 17:15 "waters = peoples" -- another explicit equation. The beast "goes into perdition" (apoleia) connecting to 2 Thess 2:3 "son of perdition."
Daniel 12:5-7 / Revelation 10:1-7 Oath-Scene Parallel¶
Dan 12:5-7 Then I Daniel looked, and, behold, there stood other two, the one on this side of the bank of the river, and the other on that side of the bank of the river.
Rev 10:1-7 And I saw another mighty angel come down from heaven, clothed with a cloud: and a rainbow was upon his head, and his face was as it were the sun, and his feet as pillars of fire: And he had in his hand a little book open: and he set his right foot upon the sea, and his left foot on the earth... And the angel which I saw stand upon the sea and upon the earth lifted up his hand to heaven, And sware by him that liveth for ever and ever, who created heaven, and the things that therein are... that there should be time no longer: But in the days of the voice of the seventh angel, when he shall begin to sound, the mystery of God should be finished.
Six shared elements: (1) Figure standing over water; (2) Hand(s) raised; (3) Oath by the Eternal; (4) Creation context (Rev 10:6 adds creation language); (5) Time declaration; (6) Sealing/book motif (Dan 12 sealed; Rev 10 open book). The open book in Rev 10:2 reverses Daniel's sealed book.
Sovereignty Hymn and Theological Foundation¶
Dan 2:20-21 Daniel answered and said, Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever: for wisdom and might are his: And he changeth the times and the seasons: he removeth kings, and setteth up kings: he giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding. Dan 4:17 This matter is by the decree of the watchers, and the demand by the word of the holy ones: to the intent that the living may know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will, and setteth up over it the basest of men.
Key: Dan 2:21 uses the Haphel participle mehashne ("He changes") for God's sovereign control of times/seasons -- the same root shanah that appears in Dan 7:25 where the horn "thinks to change" (yisbar lehashnayyah). God changes times; the horn merely THINKS to. Dan 4:17 provides the theological axiom underlying all four vision cycles.
Tidings from East and North (Dan 11:44-45)¶
Dan 11:44-45 But tidings out of the east and out of the north shall trouble him: therefore he shall go forth with great fury to destroy, and utterly to make away many. And he shall plant the tabernacles of his palace between the seas in the glorious holy mountain; yet he shall come to his end, and none shall help him.
Directional theology:
Ps 48:2 "the sides of the north, the city of the great King" (north = God's throne) Isa 14:13 "I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north" (north = God's dwelling) Ezek 43:2 "the glory of the God of Israel came from the way of the east" (east = God's glory) Rev 7:2 "another angel ascending from the east, having the seal of the living God" (east = source of sealing) Rev 18:1-4 "And after these things I saw another angel come down from heaven, having great power; and the earth was lightened with his glory... Come out of her, my people"
Key: "Tidings from east and north" = message from God's direction. The willful king is troubled by the loud cry (Rev 18:1-4), which triggers his final persecution (Dan 11:44b-45a) before his end with "none shall help him."
Sabbath Observance Across Testaments¶
Exo 20:8-11 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy... For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it. Luke 23:56 And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments; and rested the sabbath day according to the commandment (kata ten entolen). Matt 24:20 But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the sabbath day. Isa 66:22-23 For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me, saith the LORD, so shall your seed and your name remain. And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the LORD.
Key: Luke 23:56 uses kata ten entolen (definite article = THE commandment) AFTER the crucifixion. Matt 24:20 has Jesus instructing Sabbath-aware prayer decades future. Isa 66:22-23 places Sabbath in the new earth. This creates a creation-to-new-creation Sabbath arc bridging to Rev 14:7's creation language.
Seal of God / Mark of Beast Contrast¶
Rev 7:1-3 And after these things I saw four angels standing on the four corners of the earth, holding the four winds... Saying, Hurt not the earth, neither the sea, nor the trees, till we have sealed (sphragizo) the servants of our God in their foreheads. Rev 14:1 And I looked, and, lo, a Lamb stood on the mount Sion, and with him an hundred forty and four thousand, having his Father's name written in their foreheads. Rev 13:16-17 And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark (charagma) in their right hand, or in their foreheads: And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark. Rev 14:12 Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus. Rev 19:10 The testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy. Deut 6:6-8 And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart... And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes.
Key contrasts: Seal = forehead ONLY; Mark = forehead OR hand. Deut 6:8 binds God's law on hand and between eyes (forehead). Rev 14:12 defines remnant as commandment-keepers. Rev 12:17 two-mark identification: commandments of God + testimony of Jesus (= spirit of prophecy, Rev 19:10).
Israel/Church Continuity (Six NT Texts)¶
Gal 3:28-29 There is neither Jew nor Greek... for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise. Rom 9:6-8 For they are not all Israel, which are of Israel: Neither, because they are the seed of Abraham, are they all children... the children of the promise are counted for the seed. Rom 11:17-24 And if some of the branches be broken off, and thou, being a wild olive tree, wert graffed in among them... Boast not against the branches... For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee. Eph 2:14-16 For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us... for to make in himself of twain one new man. 1 Pet 2:9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people. Rom 2:28-29 For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly... But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart.
Key: Three authors (Paul, Peter, Paul), multiple metaphors (seed, olive tree, wall, priesthood, heart), one conclusion: the church is the continuation of Israel, not a parenthetical detour. This demolishes the FUT requirement for a separate Israel program.
Revelation Sanctuary Compartmental Progression¶
Rev 6:9 "I saw under the altar (thysiasteriou) the souls of them that were slain" -- outer court Rev 8:3-5 "another angel came and stood at the altar (thysiasteriou), having a golden censer (libanotonn)... much incense (thymiamata)... upon the golden altar (thysiasteriou chrysoun)" -- Holy Place Rev 11:19 "and there was seen in his temple (naos) the ark (kibotos) of his covenant (diathekes)" -- Most Holy Place Rev 15:5-8 "the temple of the tabernacle of the testimony in heaven was opened... and no man was able to enter into the temple" -- MHP exclusion (parallels Lev 16:17) Rev 21:22 "And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it" -- absence = direct presence
Key: Revelation uses naos (G3485, inner shrine) 16 times and NEVER hieron (G2411, temple precincts). This inward progression tracks the sanctuary chronology from outer court through Holy Place to Most Holy Place, ending with direct divine presence.
Rev 13:14-15 / Daniel 3 Image-Worship Five-Point Parallel¶
Rev 13:14-15 And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth... saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast... And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed. Rev 14:12 Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus. Rev 15:2-4 And I saw as it were a sea of glass mingled with fire: and them that had gotten the victory over the beast... stand on the sea of glass, having the harps of God. And they sing the song of Moses the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb.
Five structural elements: (1) Image created (Dan 3:1 / Rev 13:14); (2) Universal worship commanded (Dan 3:4-5 / Rev 13:15); (3) Death for refusal (Dan 3:6 / Rev 13:15); (4) Faithful remnant refuses (Dan 3:16-18 / Rev 14:12); (5) God vindicates (Dan 3:25-28 / Rev 15:2-4).
