Question

What does Daniel 10-12 establish (E/N), and how do the three readings compare?

Topics

RESURRECTION

General scriptures: JOB 14:12-15; 19:25-27; PSA 16:9,10; 17:15; 49:15; ISA 25:8; 26:19; EZK 37:1-14; DAN 12:2,3,13; HOS 13:14; MAT 22:23-32; 24:31; 25:1-13; 27:52,53; MRK 12:18-27; LUK 14:14; 20:27-38; JHN 5:21,25,28,29; 6:39,40,44,54; 11:23-25; 14:19; ACT 2:26-31; 4:1,2; 17:18,32; 23:6,8; 24:14,15; 26:6-8; ROM 4:16-21; 8:10,11,19,21-23; 1CO 6:14; 15:12-32,35-57; 2CO 4:14; 5:1-5; PHP 3:10,11,21; 1TH 4:14,16; 2TI 1:10; HEB 6:2; 11:19,35; REV 1:18; 20:4-6,13

Figurative: ROM 6:4; EPH 2:1,5,6; COL 2:12; 3:1. Typified: GEN 22:13/HEB 11:19; JON 2:10/MAT 12:40. Symbolical: REV 11:11.

Relevance to Dan 10-12: Dan 12:2-3 is one of the OT's clearest resurrection texts. All three positions treat it as eschatological. The dual-outcome structure (everlasting life vs. everlasting contempt) connects to John 5:28-29 and Mat 25:46.

ARCHANGEL

General scriptures: 1TH 4:16; Jude 1:9. See ANGEL.

Relevance to Dan 10-12: The Michael identity question (Christ or created archangel) is adjudicated between HIST (Michael = Christ) and PRET/FUT (Michael = created archangel). The articular ho archangelos in Jude 1:9 suggests uniqueness.

ANGEL

A celestial spirit. Different orders: ISA 6:2; 1TH 4:16; 1PE 3:22; Jude 1:9; REV 12:7. Medium of revelation: DAN 4:13-17; 8:19; 9:21-27; 10:10-20; ZEC 1:9-11. Will be with Christ at judgment: MAT 13:39,41,49; 16:27; 24:31; 25:31; MRK 13:27. Appearances to Daniel: DAN 6:22; 8:16; 9:21; 10:5-10,16,18; 12:5-7.

Relevance to Dan 10-12: The patron-angel schema (prince of Persia, prince of Greece, Michael) establishes cosmic conflict behind earthly politics. The Christophany debate (Dan 10:5-6 = Christ or angel?) affects how the two-figure distinction is read.

SANCTUARY

Divine dwelling: EXO 25:8. High priest's charge: EXO 27:21; LEV 24:3; NUM 18:5. Holy Place: LAM 2:7,20; EZK 42:20. Symbolical: HEB 8:2,5.

Relevance to Dan 10-12: Dan 11:31 "sanctuary of strength" (miqdash ha-ma'oz) and Dan 8:14 "then shall the sanctuary be cleansed" connect through the tamid/shiqquts vocabulary chain.

COVENANT

Of God with men: confirmed with oath, binding, everlasting. To be confirmed: DAN 9:27. Second covenant: JER 31:31-34; HEB 8:4-13; 12:18-24; 13:20.

Relevance to Dan 10-12: The berith chain in Daniel (9:4, 9:27, 11:22 "prince of the covenant," 11:28,30,32 "the holy covenant") is critical for the nagiyd berith identification (Christ vs. Onias III).

PURIFICATION

By blood: EXO 24:5-8; LEV 14:6,7; HEB 9:12-14,19-22. Figurative: PSA 26:6; 51:7; EZK 36:25; HEB 10:22.

Relevance to Dan 10-12: The purification triad (tsaraph + barar + laban) appears in Dan 11:35 and 12:10, forming a bracket structure. Stem changes between the two occurrences signal intensification.

JUDGMENT

The general: 1CH 16:33; PSA 50:3-6; 96:13; ECC 12:14; DAN 7:9,10; MAT 25:1-46; JHN 5:22; ACT 17:31; ROM 2:5-10; 2CO 5:10; 2TH 1:7,8; REV 20:11-15.

Relevance to Dan 10-12: Dan 12:1-2 connects to the judgment theme through the dual-outcome resurrection and the "book" (sepher) imagery.

IMMORTALITY

DAN 12:2,3; MAT 10:28; 25:46; JHN 3:14-16,36; 5:39,40; ROM 2:7; 1CO 15:12-55; 1TH 4:13-18; 2TI 1:9,10.

Relevance to Dan 10-12: Dan 12:2's "everlasting life" (chayyey olam) is one of the earliest OT references to personal immortality. The dera'on hapax pair with Isa 66:24 constrains interpretation.

PURITY

Of heart: PSA 12:6; 24:3-5; 51:7; 119:140; DAN 12:10; MAL 3:2,3; MAT 5:8; HEB 9:13,14.

Relevance to Dan 10-12: Dan 12:10 ("Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried") uses the same purification triad as 11:35, creating a vocabulary bracket.

REFINING

Figurative: ISA 1:25; 48:10; JER 9:7; ZEC 13:9; MAL 3:2,3. Purity of word of God: PSA 18:30; 119:140.

Relevance to Dan 10-12: The tsaraph (refine) component of the purification triad connects Dan 11:35/12:10 to the broader OT refining-through-suffering motif.
