la-rabbim = "for the many" -- cf. Isa 53:11-12 "justify many (la-rabbim)... he bare the sin of many (rabbim)." This verbal echo connects 9:27 to Isaiah's Suffering Servant, supporting HIST's reading of "he" = Messiah.
