Other Books -- 526 verses with HOLY concept¶
The HOLY concept (qadosh/qadash/hagios) connects Exodus 20:8 to a vast network of passages across the entire Bible where God's holiness, sanctification, and the setting apart of times, places, people, and objects is the theme. This establishes "holy" (qadash) in Exo 20:8 within the broader biblical theology of sanctification -- God sets apart the Sabbath day just as He sets apart His people, His sanctuary, and His name.
Key connections for the Sabbath study: - Leviticus 19:2 -- "Ye shall be holy: for I the LORD your God am holy." (Foundation for all holiness commands) - Isaiah 58:13 -- "my holy day" (God calls the Sabbath holy in the prophets) - Nehemiah 9:14 -- "thy holy sabbath" (Nehemiah's retrospective) - Ezekiel 20:12, 20 -- "my sabbaths...that they might know that I am the LORD that sanctify them" (Sabbath as sanctification sign) - Genesis 2:3 -- "God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it" (creation sanctification)
Analysis Notes¶
The concept_context tool identified only one concept (HOLY/H6942) in Exodus 20:8, since the verse's key action verb is qadash ("to keep it holy"). The tool does not identify zakar ("remember") or shabbath as separate indexed concepts, so the HOLY concept provides the primary cross-reference network.
The connection between Exo 20:8 and Exo 20:11 in the same chapter is significant: v.8 commands keeping the Sabbath holy; v.11 explains that God Himself "hallowed" (qadash) the day -- the same verb in both verses. God commands what He Himself has already done.
The pre-Sinai connection to Exo 16:23 ("the rest of the holy sabbath") confirms the holiness of the Sabbath was already established before the Decalogue was formally given at Sinai.
