| te basileia | ho + basileia | G3588+G932 | Dat Sg F ("the kingdom") |
| autou | autos | G846 | Gen Sg M ("his") |
KEY: erchomai (G2064) is a present middle/passive participle ("coming") — ongoing action basileia (G932) in dative = "in his kingdom"
Matthew 24:3¶
Greek Text: Kathemenou de autou epi tou orous ton Elaion proselthon auto hoi mathetai kat' idian legontes Eipe hemin, pote tauta estai, kai ti to semeion tes ses parousias kai synteleias tou aionos;
| Word | Lemma | Strong's | Parsing |
|---|---|---|---|
| pote | pote | G4219 | interrogative particle ("when?") |
| tauta | houtos | G3778 | Dem Nom Pl N ("these things") |
| estai | eimi | G1510 | Fut Mid Ind 3S ("will be") |
| kai | kai | G2532 | CONJ ("and") |
| ti | tis | G5101 | Nom Sg N ("what?") |
| to semeion | ho + semeion | G3588+G4592 | Nom Sg N ("the sign") |
| tes ses | ho + sos | G3588+G4674 | Gen Sg F ("of your") |
| parousias | parousia | G3952 | Gen Sg F ("coming/presence") |
| kai | kai | G2532 | CONJ ("and") |
| synteleias | synteleia | G4930 | Gen Sg F ("consummation") |
| tou aionos | ho + aion | G3588+G165 | Gen Sg M ("of the age") |
KEY OBSERVATION: The disciples ask TWO questions: 1. "pote tauta estai" = "when will these things be?" (temple destruction) 2. "ti to semeion tes ses parousias kai synteleias tou aionos" = "what [is] the sign of your parousia and consummation of the age?" parousias and synteleias share the same article (tes ses) — they may be asking about a single complex event.
Matthew 24:36¶
Greek Text: Peri de tes hemeras ekeines kai horas oudeis oiden, oude hoi angeloi ton ouranon oude ho Huios, ei me ho Pater monos.
| Word | Lemma | Strong's | Parsing |
|---|---|---|---|
| Peri | peri | G4012 | PREP ("concerning") |
| de | de | G1161 | CONJ (adversative/transitional — "but") |
| tes | ho | G3588 | Gen Sg F |
| hemeras | hemera | G2250 | Gen Sg F ("day") |
| ekeines | ekeinos | G1565 | Dem Gen Sg F ("that" — REMOTE demonstrative) |
| kai | kai | G2532 | CONJ ("and") |
| horas | hora | G5610 | Gen Sg F ("hour") |
| oudeis | oudeis | G3762 | Nom Sg M ("no one") |
| oiden | oida | G1492 | Perf Act Ind 3S ("knows") |
| oude | oude | G3761 | CONJ-N ("not even") |
| hoi angeloi | ho + angelos | G3588+G32 | Nom Pl M ("the angels") |
| ton ouranon | ho + ouranos | G3588+G3772 | Gen Pl M ("of the heavens") |
| oude ho Huios | "not even the Son" | ||
| ei me | ei + me | G1487+G3361 | "except" |
| ho Pater monos | ho + pater + monos | "the Father alone" |
KEY OBSERVATION: peri de ("but concerning") marks a topic shift. ekeines (G1565) = remote demonstrative "THAT [day]" — contrasts with tauta (G3778/G5023) near demonstrative "THESE things" in v.34. This grammatical shift from near to remote demonstrative suggests different referents: v.34 tauta = "these things" = observable signs (close, recognizable) v.36 ekeines = "that day" = the specific parousia moment (remote, unknowable)
2 Peter 1:16¶
Greek Text: ou gar sesophismenois mythois exakolouthesantes egnorisamen hymin ten tou Kyriou hemon Iesou Christou dynamin kai parousian, all' epoptai genethentes tes ekeinou megaleiothetos.
| Word | Lemma | Strong's | Parsing |
|---|---|---|---|
| parousian | parousia | G3952 | Acc Sg F ("coming/presence") |
| epoptai | epoptes | G2030 | Nom Pl M ("eyewitnesses") |
| genethentes | ginomai | G1096 | Aor Pass Ptcp Nom Pl M ("having become") |
| tes | ho | G3588 | Gen Sg F |
| ekeinou | ekeinos | G1565 | Dem Gen Sg M ("of that one's") |
| megaleiothetos | megaleioths | G3168 | Gen Sg F ("majesty") |
KEY: Peter uses parousia (G3952) in connection with the Transfiguration — "we made known to you the power and parousia of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of that one's majesty." This links parousia to the Transfiguration event.
Luke 21:24¶
Greek Text: kai pesountai stomati machaires kai aichmalotisthesontai eis ta ethne panta, kai Ierousalem estai patoumene hypo ethnon, achri hou plerothosin kairoi ethnon.

| kairoi | kairos | G2540 | Nom Pl M ("times/seasons") |
| ethnon | ethnos | G1484 | Gen Pl N ("of [the] Gentiles/nations") |
KEY: "kairoi ethnon" = "times of the Gentiles" (plural — multiple seasons/periods) achri hou + subjunctive = "until" + indefinite future terminus pleroo (G4137) = "fulfill, complete" — passive voice = the times are being fulfilled by external agent (God) This structure requires an extended duration from Jerusalem's fall (AD 70) to a future point.
